Better than Betty Crocker!
Viewers, I know Betty Crocker Cookbook has been around for a very long time; long before I knew how to say Betty Crocker, but when I first discovered MaryAnn's Cookbook, I was living in Cali, and I had to order the Cookbook thru a major Bookstore. Upon reciept of the Cookbook, I started with the Meatloaf by the Professor...It is the best I've ever had; now don't get me wrong I do enjoy making meatloaf the ole fashion way, but that recipe will leave you coming back for more. So I relocated to the South, and left my Cookbook with a relative to use, unfortunately, I never got it back, so I contacted every Bookstore in this town, and everyone is sold out, or can't order the Cookbook. So, I saw on the Amazon.com that I could order the Cookbook, and I've always been reluctant about putting my CC number online, so I sent a MO in to the address listed on Amazon, and to no avail, my MO was lost in the shuffle, I went belistic, so I am now forced to put my CC online in order to get the Maryann Cookbook, and I will tell each and everyone out there, if you've tried the rest, then you MUST try Maryann Cookbook, it is the BEST. It's worth losing the money from the MO and having to go another route to get my Maryann Cookbook. God only knows, I wish I could have ordered the Cookbook from Maryann herself, then I know I would have long recieved my Cookbook by now. Again its worth it!!

INSPIRING, SPIRITUAL, POWERFUL !
This book is extremely important for Metis - those of mixed blood, who have to struggle for identity and self worth in a nation of freedom and denial of freedom. Unfortunately, Kirkus leads off with a judgmental and skeptical review. Kirkus needs to employ editors who have understanding and experience in the spiritual worlds! We need the support of generations of elders of integrity, dreams, visions, spirituality, our indigenous heritage, and knowledge of the violence, exploitation and greed which was also formed the foundation of the United States. My spirit soars with this book to the mountain tops, to the pine forests, to the circles of elders and people who walk the path of love and healing. We are here. Our teachers are here. Our ancestors are here. The animals and plants and stones are here. Sakanta Running Wolf, Th'e Chupe ke ya ka Pah, Walks in Freedom.

WOW
i am the gggggggg ( i believe thats right maybe one less g) granddaughter of william weatherford through his youngest son who survived to adulthood Alexander . last semester i wanted to do a paper about him in frontier history class and bought the book. at first i thought the author was a little corny with her always thinking Red Eagle was with her. when i dropped out of that college i was unable to complete the paper. this semester in one of my english classes we learned about sacred time and it opened up my mind to think differently. now i think the book is beautiful because it isnt just a book full of jumbled up facts but real feelings. when i was younger i was afraid of the native american blood in me--im also signifcantly Cherokee. this book helped me to be proud of my heritage. i give the author 5 stars !

My search is ended.........
I am a direct descendant of Red Eagle and his wife Mary Stiggins. Mary Ann Wells takes you on a quest and delivers the goods. The real man is revealed from a Native American viewpoint. The Red Eagle that my grandfather loved and told us of flooded back into my psychic (his hatred for Andrew Jackson as well). I felt as though I was actually seeing those tragic days through the eyes of my illustrious ancestor. Ms.Wells has cleverly turned our hearts toward each other!

In our coming or in our going....
People are always glad to see us; sometimes in our coming and sometimes in our going. After reading this book, I reflected on specific times in my life when "I reached out to help someone in need". I shutter at the thought of how my words and actions may have only contributed to another person's pain. This book should be required reading for all of us. If we interact with people in any way, we will have opportunities to encourage their healing or encourage their pain. I want people to be glad to see me coming.

The War of the Worlds

The Classic Science Fiction
One of the most famous science fiction books to date is H. G. Wells' classic War of the Worlds, which has become national paranoia in the late 30's with Orson Welles over the radio. And later in the 50's become a national hit with the movie goers. Well, neither the radio broadcast or movie rendition really took the book to its letter by letter copy, but rather improvised like most non-literal entertainers. The book begins with suspicion, suspense and wonder as a meteor passes the sky without any real notice to anyone. While the book is told in the perspective of the scientist (whose name I cant seem to recall at the moment), later, somewhere after the mid-point the gears switch and we learn what the scientists brother is doing elsewhere. For the majority of the book, once the aliens have control over the earth, which is within the first 4 chapters, things calm down and become a bit stale. Only after we come back to the scientist from the brothers story, things pick up, but mind you, they pick up slowly. I am happy I got the chance to read this book, but was a little dissapointed in how the story unfolded which is why I gave this book 4 stars. Nonetheless, certainly a required reading for science fiction fans, and even now, amongst those persuing literature.

Martians are attacking the Earth!
"No one would have believed in the last years of the nineteenth century that this world was being watched by intelligences greater than man's and yet as mortal as his own...." Thus begins The War of the Worlds, written by science-fiction mastermind H. G. Wells, who brought you other incredible novels, such as The Time Machine.

This suspenseful story of Martians invading Earth is full of surprises. The narrator tells of his encounters with the powerful Martians and their stunning technologically advanced weapons and machines, which range from iron-melting heat rays to death serving war machines.

This novel has its ups and downs. One down is that the author sometimes describes the surroundings too much. But, the book does have the eerieness of a suspenseful book, keeping you on the edge of your seat, wondering what will happen next. Will mankind survive? Will the invading Martians take over the Earth? Will the Martians destroy the Earth? Find out when you read the spectacular book, The War of the Worlds.

Science Fiction At It's Very Best
This is the book that got me interested in Science-Fiction in the first place, and i've never really read anything else that has drawn me in in quite the same way. It is along with two other H.G. Wells books (The Invisible Man, The Time Machine) quite possibly the blueprints for everything else that followed. For me the only apocolyptic books that came even come close to War Of The Worlds, are The Stand and The Day Of The Triffids.

It works on a number of levels. You can read it as a novel about a Martian Invasion and it works, or you can reads it as a political commentary on the British empire and it still works. It also gives you a pretty good account of life and attitudes in England a century ago.

Quite simply in my humble opinion it is the best piece of literature written in the last 150 years. Now if only Hollywood would make a proper adaption of it. One set in England in the 1890's and with proper tripod fighting machines.

A bit disappointed
Unfortunately, I really felt I wasted some money on this book. It applied too many personal situations and I had expected advice on dealing with traveling spouses from reading the summary of the book. Overall, I found it to be helpful for those needing to compare their situation, but not helpful on giving many tips.

Realistic stories and practical advice to deal with travel
PeggySue Wells and Mary Ann Froelich are not out to paint a rosy picture of family life with a husband and father (or wife and mother) who travels. Personal interviews with families of all types make up the main substance of their brand-new book. If your spouse travels regularly, you will easily sympathize with the people interviewed and you will know you are not alone. If traveling is not part of your family's lifestyle, you will come away with a new sensitivity to families who cope with this challenge--and you'll appreciate your own situation that much more.

Each chapter addresses a particular situation and gives first person accounts from people coping with that challenge. So, while reading about other people's struggles may either depress or comfort you, the extensive lists of suggestions at the end of each chapter are worth turning to again and again. Seeking to give help on many levels, pracitical advice is given for couples, for the wife, for the traveling husband, and for others including the church family. In that sense, this book has something for everyone.

I have a close friend whose husband is embarking on a new ministry career that will involve regular travel. "Should I recommend this book to my friend?" I wondered. "Will it scare her to read about how hard it can be?" Maybe. But the solid advice given, the sense of trust in God's will and God's sufficiency, and the attitude that God can indeed be relied upon no matter what a family's situation pervades the book. Any reader will come away knowing where to look and Whom to turn to for all the ultimate answers. I know my friend will indeed find from this book practical help and encouragement as she now holds down the fort.

Encouragement for the wife of a busy husband
I read this book while my husband was working and commuting 60+ hours a week. I had a 10 month old and was pregnant with my second. I was feeling overwhelmed, but this book really gave me perspective and helped me have a more positive attitude, and trust the Lord through the busy times.

Knowing PeggySue Wells personally also made the book more special to me, since she is such a wonderful example of a loving wife and Mom with a great family! I knew that her life experience was valuable and worth listening to.

Revolutionary?!?!
Despite the author's statement, there is nothing revolutionary about this book. In fact, many suggestions in it are falling by the wayside (paper training, "corrective jerk") as we learn more positive, fun ways to work with our dogs. Although it contains great suggestions for selecting a dog, other books have better all-around advice; for example, "A Simple Guide to Puppies." For true enlightenment on dog communication, read Patricia McConnell's delightful "The Other End of the Leash." Leave this one, with its aggressive approach to training, on the shelf.

"Dog Speak" Speaks to Me
I have just finished reading "Dog Speak" by Bash Dibra and found it extremely helpful. As an animal artist who prefers to paint from life, I frequently need to advise my clients on basic obedience for their pets. Mr. Dibra has written his book for pet owners and not professional trainers so it is easy to read. I have painted dogs of every breed and description and when owners used the techniques I recommended from this book I noticed a considerable change in the pet's behavior on subsequent sittings. There are no frills or controversial new training methods here, just solid, proven advice. It is a must for every first time dog owner or anyone who just wants to review the basics.

Excellent book
I enjoyed reading this book. More than the half explains everything about dog language, how to understand what your dog is trying to tell you, how to understand aggression, playfulness, fear etc, and how to reply to those signs once you 've understood them. The last chapters of the book deal with training (sit, stay, down), general information about the health of your dog, how to groom them, how you can improve an old dog's life and make those last years as comfortable as possible. You can see in almost every line Mr Dibra's love for dogs. It is truly wonderful! I was also amazed when I read that the author got a puppy wolf, as a pattern, in order for him to understand better the ancestors of our dogs and their behaviour.

Want a challenge?
This book was a pretty tough read, and most of the concepts about women starting out in medicine were fairly obvious. Some things, though, were new to me. I did not, however, learn enough to really give this book a lot of credit. It would have been easier to just look this particular subject up on the web or in an encyclopedia. Enjoy!

Best Historical Women's Medical Book Ever
This book was extremly well researched, as well as well written. The antecdotes about the doctors were inspiring, and were often amusing. A great read. P.S. The author recently was awarded the Ross Winterrowd award for best book this year in composition rhetoric for Out of the Dead House. She should be congragulated.
