Reader from Youngstown, Ohio
When my daughter was three years old, I read Night House Bright House to her. She enjoyed the book so much that she quickly learned to read the pictured words that rhymed in every sentence. Eventually, she memorized every word in the book--author, titles, all twelve written pages! Family and friends were all amazed. As a result of reading this book, I began teaching my daughter phonics at an early age. Today, she is an excellent reader at age five. I truly recommend this book to all parents who are encouraging their children to enjoy reading.

A fun book that helps children discover their creativity
Night House Bright House is a fun book my 2-1/2 year old daughter really enjoys. When we read it to her we often pause and let her finish the rhymes. Now she looks around the house for objects she can use to make up more rhymes! The brightly-colored pictures are fantastic. My daughter takes the dolls from her magnetic paper dollhouse and uses the pictures as a second dollhouse, making up stories about each page.

This book is great!
This is a wonderful book with very colorful pictures. This book is a good read for children of any age. I am 9 years old and I still love this book even though I am reading much more difficult books. It is funny how most of the things that are saying stuff usually say something like,'"shh-it's night," said the light' or '"Pipe down," said the crown.' My favorite ones are,'"Pit-a-pat," said the mat, "Gobbledygook," said the book, "Spells trouble," said the bubble,' and,'"Stay cool," said the jewel.' I think it's funny how all these things that aren't alive are saying all these weird things. Anyway, this book is great and has fantastic illustrations.

My baby loved this book!
This was one of the first books I ever read to my daughter. As a four month-old she loved this book. I would read it to her once and try to put it away and she would squeak and squawk until I read it again and again. The bright colors and one illustration per page are great for very young children. We somehow lost this book and I am so happy to find it here so I can replace it.

This book was my child's favorite!
The brightly colored, simply drawn pictures are perfect for very young children. They are easy for children to focus on and the vivid colors are enthralling. Infants love to look at the bright colors and simple shapes again and again and toddlers can "read" it to themselves (or to their stuffed animals)! This book has continued to be a favorite for us and everyone to whom we've given it as a gift.

A big hit!
Our 11 month old loves this book. The bold colors and rhythmic text are appealing both to her and to her parents! We read to her several times a day, so it's great to find a book that we can stand to read over and over again...

Excellent colors!
My daughter loves this book! The bright colors and animals keep her attention! Excellent for infants and toddlers!

Hunky Dory Ate It
This is a great children's book. My four-year-old giggled so much over this book. It brought much pleasure!

A wonderful story for every 2-3 year old.
"Hunky Dory Ate It" is a fantastic book to share with your 2-3 year old. Tots request this book over and over again. The animated storyteller can turn this story into an exciting and fun experience. With short lines and wonderfully colorful pictures, children can re-tell Hunky Dory's couriosity for people's food as many times as they like. This book stimulates toddler's love for hearing and telling stories. My tots loved this story from 18 months old to age four. Yours will too.

My 6 week old baby LOVES this book!
My newborn is not much of a day sleeper so a friend recommended I read to her, which I thought was a bit crazy as she is so young. However, she not only smiles but actually starts laughing when looking at this book. Don't ask me what it is that makes it such a hit, but do your baby a favor and read Monica Wellington's books to him/her. By the way, the friend who made the recommendation started reading to her son from practically the day he was born. He just turned 2, and is now so advanced with books that he enjoys children's books with few pictures and lots of text, such as Winnie the Pooh.

Great, single word big picture book.
This is a very colorful and simple book that has big pictures my 10 month old really loves. Each page has a different picture that you can make sounds to. This really hold the baby's attention. My son loves the helicopter and makes "raspberries" for the sound of the propeller. Perfect for babies.

Just a great book...
I've never seen my daugther, Rebecca, who's almost 3 love a book as much as this one. We checked it out from the library and now I'm here to buy it. She has quoted lines from the book since we turned it back in. My husband, who was a volunteer firefighter for a long time, enjoyed it too because it was technically correct (except for the fact that the chief wears a white hat). It shows how busy firefighters are even on the days when they're not fighting fires and how fires usually start at the most inconvenient times (dinner time!). An enjoyable read for an young child...

Want to be a Firefighter?
Favorite characters: Firefighter Frank

This book tells about a day in the life of a fireman. Firefighter Frank is the chief firefighter and tells the other firefighters what to do. The firemen travel to a school teaching kids about fire and how to escape from a fire safely. When they are ready to eat, they receive a call and travel to the fire. You will have to read the book to see what the ending is.
This is a great book because you learn about what firefighters think about what they do on an average day. Young kids who dream to be firefighters when they grow up will love this book, and even firefighters who want to teach kids about what firefighters do. Since the terrorist attacks on 9/11, many children admire firefighters and wish to become one when they grow up, this is a great book to teach them about the career.

Squeaking of art is great for kids
I found this book at my local library, and now I'm buying one copy for home and one copy for my kid's school. Perfect for art lovers - especially ages 3 and up. The book takes you through a kid friendly version of well known artworks catagorized by topic (portraits, music, fantasy...) The real names and artists conveniently and pictorially indexed in the back. Throughout the book, the cat artist picks one part of one picture per page and creates her own masterpiece. My kids loved seeing which picture she liked best, and how she incorporated it into her final painting. The text can be long, but it's great for reading color words and teaching creative seeing, and for the younger kids you can always ad lib and just look at the pictures. I highly recommend this book. -- Bsharp2597@aol.com

Again, again!
My daughter (almost 3) is obsessed with this book. We got it out of the library and it's now been returned and she keeps asking for it. I'm going to have to purchase it. It spurred us to make cookies ourselves (something we'd never done--although we did not make the dough from scratch), and it is a jumping point for all kinds of conversation about cooking, working, buying and, most importantly, SLEEPING (as Mr. Cookie Baker has to go to bed at the end of the day himself). I would highly recommend it!

Mr. Cookie Baker- our all time favorite!
... "Mr cookie Baker" is a MUST read! the boys love to pretend play as we "roll out the cookie dough" and "add colored sprinkles". They identify the children in mr Cookie Baker's shop with names of their school friends. "Mmmm...what a delicious smell!" is one of their favorite lines. ...
An easy read - but, oh, so much to it!

Mr. Cookie Baker
My nephews loved this book! We read it multiple times each time they came to visit. I often used it in my kindergarten classroom as well. It provides many learning opportunities. The pictures offer a lot of discussion for language development and the book is a great lead in to a cooking activity. Now it is one of my two year old son's favorite books. He talks about it when we cook together, play with play dough, and play in the play kitchen.

Odd Duck
I must be the odd duck judging by the other reviews, but this book was very average. The words like "scurry, hurry, plunk," "pitter, patter, scatter," and "mumble, stumble, bump." seemed like nonsense and words my daughter didn't need to learn at 18 months. My daughter loves ducks and let this book sit untouched after initial readings for about 10 month until she was 2. She now likes the pictures, which are great and colorful. Also the plastic ducks float upside down in the bathtub. If you want great colorful pictures, I would rate this as 5 stars. But as a total package, I rate it a 2.

reader from Northbrook, IL
My daughter absolutely loves anything ducky. This book has become the all time beloved book in our household. Some of her first words have come from trying to imitate the way we read the darling phrases like "scurry, hurry, plunk," "pitter, patter, scatter," and "mumble, stumble, bump." Take the adventure with these ducks and their mother as they wake up, feed and play in the pond, wander through the forest, swim in the pond, and snuggle up in their nest. This is a book I like to give to new parents.

All My Little Ducklings
My kids loved the language in this book when they were little and now that they are learning to read this is a great book for them to practice decoding with. All the words follow standard phonics rules and the changes in vowels is really good reinforcement. The pictures are wonderful and support the text just enough to keep them going.
