Take control
Mr. Weinstein's advice was right on. He gave hard facts and debunked the myth about job hunting. I had this book for several years now. I always go back to it whenever I need to re-evaluate my job and career goals. The book is also easy to read. No gimmicky nor theatrical messages. He got right down to the realities of job hunting. In the past employers took care of their employees. The employees in return gave loyalty. Times have changed. Job seekers and employees now have to take control of their own destiny if they are to survive today tough competitive job market.

Insightful!
Bob Weinstein has built a career on advising you about yours. He is right on target in his latest book, a snappy, honest, conversational guide to job-hunting. Throw away all your old books on the subject. This one takes you right into the heart of today's marketplace, where the old employment-seeking rules (even from five or 10 years ago) no longer apply. Whether you're looking for a new job, or your next one, we [...] highly recommend this book to everyone from custodians to CEOs.
This book speaks the truth
As a professional "headhunter," I lend this book to candidates as a primer. Weinstein fearlessly debunks the myths around getting hired. Unfortunately, few people will practice what he preaches. Humans tend to go with conventional wisdom. The bold others will always get the jobs they want.

An author who knows his subject matter isn't rocket science
OK, so you are looking for a job hunting book and are facing the issue of being an "older worker." This book is written in a jaunty, at times breezy style that keeps suggesting the subtext that "Hey, I'm on your side" so let's just be real!" Weinstein makes some observations on the job hunt in general, and pokes some fun at the nature of job interviewing. Come on, you are old enough to snicker a little at a question like "Why do you want to work for our company?" Duh! His premise is that with lots of experience behind you, write a letter (not resume) covering your accomplishments and abilities. Then offer a resume as an afterthought (i.e., sure you can read my resume, but you and I both know that it's a resume after all--a bunch of words! Wouldn't you rather meet the real thing in person?" He discusses what employers are usually thinking in the back of their minds (for example, most don't expect an employer to stay more than 5 years anyway, so what's the big deal about age?) He gets away from the rather denigrating explanations that "Sure your older but you have all that experience" cliche stuff. The sample letters are quite competent, and the book is a nice companion to have on your bookshelf even if you're not currently job seeking. You might next week, so why desparately order it FEDEX when you can have it as an ace in the hole. Clearly written by a competent prose writer,Weinstein has obviously mastered the basics of clear expository prose. good luck!

What's it like to live on death row?
Who are the inmates and what brought them there? What are
their final moments like before and during their executions?
This book gives an insightful look into life on death row and
is often very explicit. The first half of the book almost sympathizes
with the condemned, while the second half includes
the biographies of many current death row inmates.
It gives those of us who are law-abiding citizens a glimpse
into a very different world: a world where people chose to live
their lives drenched in evil and now must reap what they've sowed.
Not for the squeamish!
