A timeless (and timely) story of a child's honesty.
I remember reading, and rereading, this book as a child. Growing up in Kentucky, I can relate to the rural aspects of the book. The story is timeless and timely in the world today. Jesse Stuart will remain forever in my heart and the hearts of grown children everywhere who read his works an example of what goodness can come from writing for children.

A skillful illustration of the true benefits of honesty.
In "A Penny's Worth of Character" Jesse Stuart takes the reader back to a simpler time, when a boy could exchange used paper bags for a candy bar at the store. The message of the book is as old, that of honesty. Stuart skillfully illustrates the inner turmoil of a young boy who has been dishonest and how he makes it right. It's an excellent book for kids from 4th grade up and would make an excellent story to read aloud.

Most memorable book I've read in 50 years; Honesty pays!
A story that I've never forgotten in 50 years of reading. I've searched for a copy of it for 40+ years. Any one, young or old, who readys this simple story will be changed forever...unless they are the most callous individual alive

The Bad Back Book

I tell my back-bothered friends about it.
When I was sentenced, years ago, to two weeks bed rest for sciatica lower back pain, a neighbor lent me the book. I read the humorous real life story of tribulations with surgery, chiropractic, and accupuncture, then started doing the simple exercises in the book's appendix. What a great thing! Slow steady progress until I got back to enjoying tennis at full enthusiasm. I even use one or two of the exercises on a plane for ironing out the kinks from flying for a couple of hours. It has been wonderful for me!

Only thing that helped my back.
Recommended to me 20 years ago by head of Nuclear medicine at San Francisco General Hospital.

Could only stay up for short periods of time before. Now I have no problem and give it to friends who have back trouble.

Must do exercises religiously for long term, but immediate relief with relaxing exercises.

Me hate this, make me so mad.
This book am so awful. Sometime me read and feel very mad at universe. Me read to me 4 year old son. Most comics am not violent enough for he. This am 'cause made long time ago when comics having more blood. Now we talk bizarro all over house. Make us sad sad sad.

Pure, delightful sillyness
You know, as much as I appreciate the plethora of "Bizarro" reviews for this book, I feel there should be at least ONE straight review for people who aren't in on the joke. So in case you don't quite get it -- Bizarro is Superman's imperfect duplicate. Everything he does is the opposite of Superman. That's pretty much the gist of it.

This book collects the "Tales From Bizarro World" series from the old Adventure Comics title -- stories about a whole planet of Bizarros, including Bizarro-Lois Lane, Bizarro-Jimmy Olsen, Bizarro-Lex Luthor, Bizarro-Supergirl and even Bizarro-Krypto the Superdog.

Amazingly, these stories were written by Superman creator Jerry Siegel himself. They're pretty simple, pretty light, and some of them make absolutely no sense even in BIZARRO logic. It's fluff, but it's enjoyable fluff. It's pure, beautiful Silver Age wackiness, and it's well worth the read for any fan of Superman or goofy comic books in general. Pick it up.

THIS AM BAD BOOK OR ELSE!
Me am thinking you not like this book because it not about Bizarros. It am about Bizarros. Bizzaro code: Us do opposite of earthly things. You am not going to read this book. IT AM BAD. :o)

A fine resource
This book is a fine resource for looking up Lewis quotes or for thumbing through to read Lewis in a different light. The quotes are grouped alphabetically by topic (e.g. "courage", "experience", "joy", "Macdonald", or "Middle Ages"), being culled from the academic and popular works alike. Lewis enthusiasts (or pastors or priests or rabbis looking for material for their sermons) would do well to invest a few dollars and purchase this book. It comes equipped with a preface & introduction, bibliography, a helpful index, and several pages of pictures.

An Excellent Tool
Not only is this book an excellent resource for Christian speakers/preachers/etc., but it can also be of usefulness an individual's personal life by offering words on joy, peace, death, etc. The quotes are topically organized, and the references back to the original works are very helpful when you can't quite remember exactly which book contains that C.S. Lewis quote that has been running through your mind lately. This book is also helpful if you engage in theological conversations and/or debates. The quotes included in the book are good encapsulations of the gyst of many of Lewis' insights into human nature, Divine nature, and Divine human nature. Some sections that I have found especially helpful in informal philosophical debates are "Free Will", "Sin", "Human Nature", and "Love." Any diehard Lewis fan (without a photographic memory), who loves being able to quote him in sermons, academic papers or in conversation, could greatly benefit from having this book.

I strongly recommend this book to true Christians everywhere
I've thoroughly enjoyed reading the Quotable Lewis and continue to use it often in my study of the Gospel. C.S. Lewis is the greatest Christian Scholar of our time and in reading passages from his works in the Quotable Lewis I've gained greater insite into what being a Christian is all about.

A MUST READ BOOK
Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins should be commended for this wonderful book on Bible Prophecy. It is a subject that has had much disrepute brought upon (as well as Christianity) in general, because of date setters, and people bending the scriptures to fit there pat theories. LaHaye and Jenkins instead give us an excellent, sober, and intelligent, line by line cometary of the Book of Revelations in an easy to read manor; they also being in scriptures from all the Great Bible Prophets (both Old Testament and New testament) as well as from the Lord Jesus Christ. This Book is a must read for all Christians to promote Holly Living in an evil age and to spur evangelism and IS A MUST READ FOR ALL NON CHRISTIANS AS WELL. I would challenge everyone to read this book. If you see the Prophecies happening as laid out in the HOLLY BIBLE then you can chose to Believe. What do you have to lose?

Required Reading About the End Times & 'Left Behind' series
Tim LaHaye's 'Are We Living in the End Times' is a great supplement reading to help you follow the story line of the 'Left Behind' series. LaHaye uses excerpts from the various 'Left Behind series' books to explain where each one is laid out according to prophecy. It examines the current events foretold in scripture and what they mean. It clearly lays out current events as they relate with the scriptural timetable. The book contains picture diagrams and carefully outline explanations of every event from our present time to the end of the ages. This book gives lots of reasons for believing that the Rapture and the Tribulation could occur during our generation. It's look into future events are, at least to be appreciated for it's thorough study of Revelations and the prophetic books of the Bible.

If you don't have time to read through all the 'Left Behind' books try this book as a shortcut to the last days and the signs of the times. Some events mentioned in the book have soon passed. But they do give close to a pinpoint prediction where we are in the prophecy timetable. Since September 11, 2001 begins the countdown what soon maybe the End Time. Another source suggestion is 'War on Terror' by Grant Jeffery. He explains the meaning of the catastropic events and how they fit into the End Time prophecy.

This Is A Must Read For Everyone!!!
Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins should be commended for this wonderful book on Bible Prophecy.
