This book has excellent illustrations and easy-to-understand phonetics that enable you to understand phrases and words used in daily situations. Helps u learn by association. The annex has really useful words (months, days, numbers, body parts) etc. Really makes learning fun! Grow chick, grow!
The see how they grow series is yet another quality series put out by Dorling Kindersley (aka DK). Purchase them all if you can! Both children and adults will enjoy "watching" the chick grow. The last two pages are a pictorial summary of how the chick went from egg to eight week-old rooster.

Inclusive for Kids
I found this book to be a very good Bible book for kids of any age. Although it is primarily geared for older school age kids, younger kids can also enjoy the stories and the pictures. It is a great resource for getting kids familiar with the Bible - it's contents and wording. I will enjoy reading these stories to my kids for years to come. I also love that it is in a daily format, this really helps with daily devotions.

One of an Outstanding Series
I used this book, as well as "What Do We Know About Islam" and "What Do We Know About Judaism", as part of an introductory elementary homeschool course in world religion and culture. All three were excellent, covering a lot of ground with clear text and interesting photographs and line drawing illustrations. Today I ordered the ones on Hinduism and Buddhism for next year -- despite the hardback/library binding cost. Both my student and I learned a lot, enjoyably!

A beautiful depiction of Jesus' early life.
"The Christmas Dove" is a beautiful and compelling depiction of the early experiences of Jesus and His earthly family. The reader gets a sense of what life was like 2000 years ago, and also gets a glimpse into the thoughts and feelings of Jesus' parents, who slowly begin to realize that their beloved little boy is far more than He seems. This book personalized Jesus' early life for me, and helped fill in the gaps between the Biblical accounts of His birth and later events. God's hand was upon Carol Watson when she wrote this book!

"The Christmas Dove" is appropriate for all ages; each short chapter would make a nice bedtime story for small children, and it would not lose its appeal to the oldest reader.

touch and feel kitten
this is a good book if u have young childeren about 1-2 years young.it is very interactive and will teach your kidswhat a cat feels like, and its tounge, its tags, fur, food bowl, and a straw basket.

A definite favorite!
I bought this book for my daughter when she's nine months old. Now six weeks later she still smiles with delight everytime I take it out for her. Besides exploring the different textures, she's fascinated with the cutout on the cover that shows the kitten's fur. Although she likes her other books, normally she's too impatient to sit through reading a whole book, but this book I have to read to her two or three times before she would let me take it away. I will definitely buy other touch and feel series. I feel that they are a terrific introduction to get her to love books.

Both my daughter & I love this book!
When my 1 yr. 9 mo. old daughter first saw this book, she screamed in delight. She found the kittens gorgoues not to mention the "touch parts" very interesting. I, myself, have to admit that I only discovered how rough a cat's tough is after reading the book with my daughter.

I am eagerly anticipating for the other touch & feel books ordered through the Net.

Aesop's Fables

Comprehensive, but a Bit Too Short & Sweet
If you are looking for a short, comprehensive, encyclopedic catalogue of Aesop's Fables then this book is a steal. There are 83 fables in all, including the more famous ones such as the Boy Who Cried Wolf, The Lion and the Mouse and the Goose That Laid the Golden Egg. Each fable comes with a half page or so re-telling of its story plus a one sentence synopsis of the stories' "moral" at the end.

My problem with this is that the stories are so short, there is no magic in them. They are stripped of all but the bones. I can't imagine a child being interested in the stories told this way. I would have preferred them cutting the number of stories and instead fleshing them out by a few pages. I recommend paying a few bucks more for *The Aesop for Children* (ISBN:0590479776) by M. Winter which does just that.

Aesop's Fables told for adults, as they were intended
Culturally we are now at the point when "Slow but steady wins the race," "Look before you leap," and "Necessity is the mother of invention" are considered wise sayings passed down from generation to generation. But even if you know these proverbs you might have forgotten, or probably never knew in the first place, that they were first said by an ex-slave named Aesop two thousand years ago and each was the moral to one of his fables. This particular collection of Aesop's fables is based on the 19th-century research and translation of George Fyler Townsend, for whom the stories were moral lessons intended for an ADULT audience rather than simply children's stories about anthropomophic animals. Because he used animals with human strengths and weaknesses, Aesop's tales have been directed over the years more towards children; I heard of lot of them for the first time on a record by the Smothers Brothers. But Townsend restores the style and sophistication that are not commonly found in the juvenile editions of Aesop. In addition to the familiar fables like "The Fox and the Grapes" and "The Hare and the Tortoise" there are dozens of lesser known fables uncovered by Townsend and included in the over 300 fables included in this edition, which makes this collection one of the more comprehensive of its kind.

Not a bad novelization of the movie!
Michael Avallone has done a pretty good job with this novelization of the movie. Although there are some sequences here that are different from the movie, it is still a good reading. A group of unsuspecting teens decide to spend a weekend at a summer cottage on Crystal Lake. Little do they know that a killer awaits. One by one, they fall into his vengeful, bloodthirsty hands until only one of the teens is left. Alone in the cabin with no one to help, will she survive the night of terror? Although not quite as good as the Simon Hawke version, this novel is still a very good effort. Complete with stills from the movie, it's guaranteed to give you a chill.
