One of my favorites...
I read this book when it was originally published in 2 volumes--however whether it is one or two books is immaterial. If you've read the Seth books you'll love this book!

Seth in a more casual setting
Seth might appear to some readers to be a bit too intellectual for a formal setting, as I once thought. However, Seth can quite hold his own with some very diverse people, and opinions. This book is basically transcripts from Jane Roberts' ESP class, and the discussion held there.

An invaluable guide to Seth
I have read Sue's original volumes and had been hoping ever since that they may be reprinted. My wish has come true.
Sue's contributions to understanding the Seth material and how it came about is invaluable because she puts matters in to a relevant, down-to-earth context. This facilitates the reader's approach to Seth's insights immensly.
Mental fogs lift, intellectual mists disperse, and all of a sudden you can see the landscape; and the trees in the wood stand out clearer than before.
I am thoroughly recommending this book along with Jane's material to everyone of my own readers.

A Rollicking, Revealing Glimpse into Jane Robert's Life
A true fan of all the Seth books, I have read them many times over. Often, however, I find myself coming back to this book when I especially need inspiration. In it you will find several fascinating Seth sessions (including discussions of a revolutionary approach to life called "Framework 2"). But more than any other book by Jane Roberts, it is in THE GOD OF JANE that she really lets her hair down. For the first time we learn of her painful experiences as a child on welfare, caring for a sickly and emotionally difficult mother. Plus how she overcame these and many other obstacles to eventually become the woman who spoke for Seth.

Fascinating, informative reading for students of metaphysics
The late Jane Roberts (1929-1984) is best remembered by students of metaphysical studies for her "Seth" books. In The God Of Jane, Roberts bravely questioned the very material she produced in those many volumes of the Seth series, as well as her own psychic abilities. Regarding, The God Of Jane, she wrote "This book is the story of my efforts to put Seth's material to work in daily life; to free myself from many hampering cultural beliefs; and most of all, to encounter and understand the nature of impulses." As all of her earlier works, The God Of Jane will prove fascinating and informative reading for students of metaphysics, psychology, spirituality, and self-realization. Two additional and highly recommended Jane Robert's titles are her Adventures In Consciousness (0966132734) and Psychic Politics (0966132742).

Recommended, even for people unfamiliar with Jane Roberts.
Unlike many readers here, I had never heard of Jane Roberts or Seth. I was familiar with Sue Watkins, though, so when I was given "Speaking Of Jane Roberts" as a gift, I read the book to learn more about her. It was a wonderful, poignant, sometimes painful, memoir. Reading it, I wished I had been part of their gatherings. Sue makes writing seem so easy, so absolutely enjoyable, which is why even someone totally unfamiliar with the subject matter can enjoy this book.

The truth behind the power of beliefs
This book is a must read for all hard-core Seth fans. Sue Watkins, who was very close to Jane Roberts, writes like a dream, frankly and honestly, no holds barred. One of the most difficult things for most of us to understand (those of us who have been reading and utilizing Seth's concepts for years), is how Jane could have lived and suffered so long with the debilitating effects of rheumatoid arthritis. How, we want to know, could she write those books about creating your own reality, and yet fail so miserably with her own health? With a great deal of compassion and understanding, not to mention 20/20 hindsight, Sue peels away the layers of Jane's psyche and reveals the woman who was the true "mystery person" behind the Seth material. We realize, as we read this memoir, that we knew and understood very little about this amazing woman, and we come away with a lot more compassion for ourselves and our own struggles with our core beliefs. I highly recommend this book, and I will re-read it every time I get discouraged and impatient with myself for hanging on to negative beliefs of my own.

A lovely, deeply felt memoir...
...by somebody very close to the "action". Susan is a wonderful writer who has the gift of getting to the heart of things. If you are interested in Seth, Jane Roberts or mediumship/the life of an artist, you will not go wrong by buying this book. Some things in life are simply "instant classics" and this is one of them. I have read and re-read it many times.

Buy it now.

Jane Austen: In Style
I bought this book because I was interested in Jane Austen. The book is divided up into sections such as country life, clothing, manners, food, etc. with a lot of details about this time and how it relates to Jane's life and situations. The book is lavishly illustrated with full page color photographs, and smaller pictures of Jane, Cassandra, and articles made or used by the Austen Family. It is well written and fun to read. It makes a good starting point for getting the feel of what life was like in Georgian England.

Factual and Visual Guide to the World of Jane Austen
I bought this book after being pleased but not satisfied with Maggie Lane's "Jane Austen's World." This book is a much more indepth guide to the world of the Regency. It includes many pictures of the interior of Regency houses and much more on the fashion of the day, including pictures and terms that will be helpful if researching or just very curious about the costuming of the day. While "Jane Austen's World" had much much more on Jane Austen's life and family, this book takes a much more indepth look at the times of the author including entertainment, exterior and interior of the homes and the fashion. I recommend this to anyone interested in learning more about the Regency or interested in writing a story, play, etc. about the period. Visually and factually satisfying.

AI is a technique, enveloped by a theory...
Appreciative Inquiry is a method for getting the best, most positive, upbeat, and energizing images of your organization to the fore. AI contrasts to problem-focused inquiry, which usually provokes blame and evasion. A large cadre of Organizational Development and Human Resources types has developed AI, and they swear by its positive effects. The book contains nearly two dozen case examples of AI interventions, ranging from small organization to large multi-national corporations. The authors present a coherent theory (social constructionism) and method to bolster AI's techniques. It has much in common with post-modern psychotherapy, the construction of "magic solutions" ("best practices" in their terms), and centering on the individuals' perspectives (rather than some larger, "objective" truth) about an organization.

It is clear that you have to be sophisticated to do AI interventions. One imagines that you should belong to an AI network, be thoroughly trained, and be supervised. The AI intervention probably does not work without the requisite OD/HR training and perspective. If you are interested, this is your textbook.

I found the book moderately difficult to read and digest, partly because the authors have created such an elaborate theory behind the intervention. The authors are less than candid about "failed" interventions (p. 206), and terms like "co-creating" and "sociotechnical" (what?). I came away from this book believing that AI is something like Public Discourse applied to businesses.

If you want to use this book, plan on studying it in detail and enrolling in AI workshops.

Elegant but with some limitations...
Appreciative Inquiry fits within recent "modern mediation theory" and Public Discourse techniques. I cannot add more to what previous reviewers have said (above), but note only that the techniques are more difficult to apply than the authors indicate and require all parties in the discussion to be committed to the end-result. AI techniques cannot work in groups where there are power vacuums or undisclosed power grabbing and coaltion-formation.

Combining theory and practice with great art
With a growing literature that deals with Appreciative Inquiry (AI), a truly revolutionary way of moving our organization, in their book Magruder Watkins and Mohr have accomplished more to help organization development consultants and managers to understand the potential of AI than any other book currently in print.

Appreciative Inquiry: Change at the Speed of Imagination covers the subject by alligning both the theoretical concepts to practical applications. It is very well written and presented with a great flow. To the novice to AI it gives all the key elements to get started, for the more seasoned consultant and manager in the field of AI, it gives new ideas and opens up possibilities for further exploration.

It is not be the only book on Appreciative Inquiry but it is at the very top of my reading list on this dynamic subject. When I recommend readings to students of AI, Appreciative Inquiry: Change at the speed of imagination, is the only book they need to read.

Congratulations to Jane Magruder Watkins and Bernard Mohr, they have produced the best book on AI that is available today.
