a childhood favorite
I was given this book when i was very young, and learned how to read from this book. i still have it; it is worn from years of reading it. And to this day when i want to feel like a kid again, i pick it up and read. it will always be a favorite, and I plan on reading it to my children when i am older.

A Daughter's Grateful Comment
My father wrote this book when I was very young and it is just gratifing to know that other people enjoyed it as much as I did growing up. A friend of mine saw a copy in my house and then told me that it was her favortie book as a child. Its nice to know that people love this book. We appreaciate your comments very much. Thank you, Celia Gorman.

my favourite childhood book
I'm 16 years old now but when I was little my father read "Maia" to me every single day. It is one of my all time favourite books. It's perfect for any kid who loves dinosaurs, just like I did. The pictures are great and the story is wonderful. I still have my copy and keep it in my room so it's always nearby for whenever I want to read it again.

A Truly Remarkable Book
I have been blessed twice in my life with books that have changed the way I view the world. The first was "The Nature of Personal Reality" by Joan Roberts, and the second was "A Course In Miracles"- both channeled works. Now I hold the third in my hands. What a joy to find a challenge and a hand up to the next step in my spiritual evolution I knew from the beginning that it had already moved mountains inside my mind and opened up waterfalls. Peace, Betty Lee

"How to Get Ready for God."
Something compelled me to read the book so I finally located a copy at the Local Hero bookstore in Ojai. I was disappointed that at that time no other bookstore in this area was willing to stock it. I find the story teller Hinono a person I can identify with. He and his family's spiritual journey is full of wisdom and love that anyone would appreciate regardless of their religious faith. I wish to thank Barbara and John for putting this material together. I'm sure there is a story behind how this was done with Hinono your source person. I hope this book does get recognition it deserves.

An essential guide to be read repeatedly by any truth seeker
"For the Land of the Lost" is a story - charming, funny, insightful and intriguing - told by an ancient shaman, Hinono, who lived in the years following 636 BC. But more than a story, it is a revelation about the power of Love and a reminder that no matter how far we have come from remembering our connection to Creator, there is a way back.. Book I, "Fire," introduces Hinono's tale, taking him from his birth to his journey with his family to visit the ancient Hopi people, years away from his native land. Among the Hopi, Hinono and Shuinono, his wife, share the revelations and experiences of the Hopi, after which they return home, now with daughter Fiece. On their way back, the parents marvel at their infant daughter's certainty about life and at the deep spiritual connection she already shares with her mother and with Creator. Her badger medicine is obvious and soon to be made more evident in her communication with nature and with people in her tribe. Book II, "Earth," immerses the reader in the family's ancient tribal life, painting a tender picture of how conflicts were solved, fears addressed, and love was shared. Fiece becomes a central figure in helping the tribal council see through the fear that faces the tribe - the "big cold" expected somewhere in the near future. Book III, "Water," details the workings of our physical selves and expands on issues woven throughout the first two books - the healing of all relationships, particularly those between men and women; the barriers that keep us from returning to Love; and the opportunity set before us to escape from our perception into the reality of who we really are. Book IV, "Air," consists of short, charming creation stories by Great Mother Earth, told through the eyes and voices of her native creatures. "For the Land of the Lost" is a masterpiece created by a skillful artisan. It takes the reader on a mesmerizing journey through language (sometimes literary but often strikingly mundane); through time and space, with little regard for boundaries; but most definitely into that "within" space in each of us that desires to be known and brought to light. It is an invaluable guide to be read repeatedly throughout anyone's journey back into wholeness.

ANCESTORS BEGIN HERE
THIS IS A TRUE STORY OF THE PEOPLES THAT CAME TO THE ISLAND,I AM AN EAST INDIAN AND I AM SO HAPPY THAT I FINALY CAN HAVE A BOOK THAT RELATES TO MY EAST INDIAN ANCESTORS.AND IF LUCK HAS ITS WAY,KNOW THE NAMES OF MY GREAT GREAT GRAND PARENTS THAT JOURNEYED ACROSS THE VAST SEAS TO MAKE A HOME IN THE WEST INDIES.

Look Lai has produced an excellent historical text.
Look Lai has presented an in-depth analysis of Chinese and East Indian immigrants who migrated from their home countries and went to new lands in the West Indies where there worked in sugar plantations as indentured laborers. His hybridization thesis is refreshing and brings to light the different cultural experiences these immigrants had in the British colonies of Trinidad, Jamaica and Guyana. I recommend this text to anyone interested in learning about the history of plantation labor in the 19th. century and about the tumultuous events that occurred. This author is the only one so far who has investigated the West Indian Chinese and East Indian cultures together and he has worked to put the text into its correct historical context. Easy to read. A must for those who want to read about how two races, Chinese and East Indians, had ethnic tensions within their own cultural backgrounds: the caste system delineated who was higher in rank and who was at the bottom for those who came originally from India, and the Hakka/Cantonese differences were pre-emminent. Look Lai proves that the precursor of events that took place, the British immigration laws, the indentureship system, the riot incidents, and the tensions among the white plantocracy and freed slaves and indentured laborers, paved the way for the political and economic problems of the 20th. century. I enjoyed the book tremendously. Henrietta Akit. B.A. Hons.in History, University of Western Ontario, Canada.

Critically and evangelical study of literary parallels
The author thoroughly reviews ancient near eastern texts, and compares them to the texts and books of the Old Testament. He gives an analyses of all major genres of the Old Testament literature, and looks for meaningful parallels. This book is highly recommendables, because it is unique in viewing the Old Testament as God's revelation, but nevertheless being honest to the texts he compares them to.Simply a must for every student of theology and for every pastor who takes bible and the ancient world for serious

A lovely book
A lovely ramble with a fascinating old gentleman, quaint, charming, sunny and a true picture of one aspect of a bygone age and of the way our great-great grandfathers talked and lived. The fishing lore and natural history are hopelessly out of date but who cares? Has been in print for centuries and deservedly so.

An interesting collection
Having taught B&F in my early 17th cent. drama class, I can recommend Wit without Money and, to some extent, The Wild-Goose Chase. I would not bother with Wife for a Month, one of the weakest and poorly written of their collaborations. Nevertheless, this is a handy book.

A classic book about a classic coach.
When you have lost all of your faith in sports, buy and read this book. Coach Wooden takes us through the wonderful journey of his life, from a young boy growing up in a small Indiana town to the multiple national championships at UCLA. Its too bad there aren't more coaches like John Wooden, a truly inspiring individual

They Call me the Greatest....is what it should be called.
They Call Me Coach by John Wooden is not only one of the greatest sport books I have read but also one of my all time favorites too. In his book he tells you of his early struggle through the Depression and from the constant moving of his family. In the book he tells you of his father's enormous impact on his life, from his inspiration talks with him or just the poems he quoted. One of Wooden's own thoughts has stuck in my head also. It reads,"Do not let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do."(pg 56) This great book deserves five stars because of how John Wooden can take a topic of teaching basketball, and stretch it to other sports and even educational goals. If you do not even play basketball you will like this book because whatever the sport you play, this book has something that you can apply to it. His Pyramid of Success is great and I feel it should be in every locker room of every sport. The diagram states how success can be acheived through making your team an actual team, by making them come together and be in the same mind set. These are few of the major reasons why anyone should read this book.

More than basketball: a formula for winning in life.
John Wooden thoroughly puts forth the principles that he practices in his life as a coach, former coach, and citizen. His trips through nostalgia are insightful and incisive. More than a book on how to play better basketball, it is more in line with how to be a better person. A must read for individuals who are working with children and adults and feel that high standards and accountability are important for them and their charges.

a person dreaming of becoming the nations largest retailer
Sam Walton was always competitive. Before building his retail empire he worked at a JC Penney store and then worked at a Ben Franklin Store. He wanted to become the largest retailer in the nation instead his retail store became the largest in the world. At first his store was named Walton 5-10 but he changed it to Wal-Mart. He did have another store as well called Sams wholesale club but was shortened to Sams Club. Sams Club is the largest warehouse store while Wal-Mart is the largest retail store. I wont say anymore about his stores but he had a dream and his dream came true. There is also a Wal-Mart cheer and he has rules for following a business. He followed those rules and it worked for him. The point is he had a dream and it came true. I mean not anyone can build the largest retial opperation in the world. If you really believe in yourself it just might come true. There are eighteen chapters in this book. Here are the chapters in order.

Well those are the 18 chapters that Sam Walton himself and John Huey wrote. Its pretty much all about Sam Waltons life and his success behind it. Its a great book even if you don't like the guy or his stores. It also gives you good advice on making a business. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves Wal-Mart and/or wants to know more about business.

A Must Read for Dreamers

Sam not only makes you dream big but inspires you to follow your dreams.
For someone not having 'lived' the 60s and 70s in small town America, it was an insight into the All American values of old.
My business and personal links with Wal-Mart testify to how Sam's basic values are still a driving force at Wal-Mart

It is a book that makes you dream and gives you 10 rules to achieve your dream.
I read only one - it was all I needed.
The rule was 'Swim Upstream - Break all the Rules'.

A Retailing Bible For Just Seven Bucks
Think about it. A small time variety store retailer out of Bentonville Arkansas creates the most power retailing jaggernaut of all time, and right in the faces of powerhouses like Sears, K-Mart and JC Penny. If you are in any kind of a business with customers, you will benefit from this book, and experiencing the laser like focus Sam had on delivering the absolute best in his stores. Walton is to retailing what Jordon was to basketball, an absolute master of his art. I read this book several years ago, and as a retailer, I still refer to it, as much for the specific business tactics as to remind myself as to how Sam thought about things, and how he managed his people. An absolute classic.
