Financial Counseling in Practice: A Practical Guide
Practical describes this book perfectly. The author has achieved with great success, a down to earth method of helping counselors understand the real process of working with their clients to achieve financial wellness. Most financial counseling books I have read tend to be somewhat over my head even though I have been a credit union financial counselor for nearly 25 years. The book has many helpful worksheets that I use in my money management workshops and group counseling sessions. Two of my most favorite chapters deal with debt management and financial calculating for counselors. "Financial Counseling in Practice" offers extremely helpful tools for assisting counselors to really make a difference in helping individuals improve their overall financial picture. Whether you are an experienced counselor or someone who is just beginning a career in helping people achieve financial stability, I recommend this book highly. Even if you are not a financial counselor by profession, ministers, care givers or anyone wanting to better assess their own financial position, will find this book useful.

Simple, Stylish and Groovey
On first flick I thought Yeah Great! the stuff in this book really nice and I'd love to have most of it somewhere in my house...where can I buy them!! On second read I soon started to relise that producing great finishes on furniture, lamp shades, curtains, floors and walls is not as hard as it looks and even someone like ME can achieve it. This book is fantastically laid out with big colourful, basic pictures which take you through the procedures step by step from start to finished product. It's an excellent book if you want some great, and visually stunning effects around the house without needing a degree in interior or graphic design. There are even templates in the back if you want to use the patterns straight from the book. There are also many different colour samples if you're not to sure of what colours go well together. It's also great for making gifts too! If you like to dabble in a little bit of art and craft then this book should definately make it to your bookshelf.

THE book about pain
The textbook of pain is everything someone needs to start the study of the complex and fascinating phenomenon that is pain. Of course after reading it you will have to read many more scientific papers, to be able to work in pain research, but the book provides the guidelines for your study and helps you select the topic(s) you would like to work on. The book has a very high scientific level given by the authors and editors wich are all respected members of the scientific community. I can only recommend the Textbook of Pain to anyone interested in this field.

"The Wall" is a Patriotic Book
"The Wall" is a patriotic book. It was easy to read; that made me understand how the Vietnam War turned out in the end.

The boy and his father try to find the grandfather's name on the Vietnam Wall memorial when they pass many other names. When the father reads the names on the wall, the boy imagines each name as a real person, standing next to him and talking to him.

If you are interested in the Vietnam War and how people sacrificed their lives fore us, then "The Wall" would be a good book for you to read.

I gave this four stars out of five because I found the book to be very moving. If you like books about wars, then you'll like "The Wall."

A boy and his dad visit "The Wall" to find grandpa's name
For over a quarter of a century the key imperative in American Foreign Policy has been to avoid another Vietnam. Now we have a new generation of children, born to the sons and daughters of those who fought in Vietnam but never came home. How do we tell them the story of Vietnam so they understand how much it scarred the national psyche and how their is such a national resolve never to let it happen again in some way more substantial than showing them "Forrest Gump?" Eve Bunting comes up with one way in "The Wall," ably assisted by the watercolor illustrations of Ronald Himler. "The Wall" is the simply story of a little boy and his father who have come from far away to visit the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C. to find the name of the boy's grandfather.

What makes "The Wall" so moving is that instead of answering questions it will get children to ask them. Like the little boy in the story, children reading this book will see man in combat fatigue in a wheelchair because he does not have any legs; an older couple hugging and crying; flags, teddy bears and letters laid against the wall. The little boy does not ask any questions about what he sees, but I have to believe that students reading this book certainly have questions that they want answered. Whether it is used for Memorial Day or Veterans Day, or any discussion in which children are thinking about war and its consequences, "The Wall" is a very thoughtful book that should be very helpful to teachers and students alike.

I am a teacher
I am a sixth grade social studies teacher. Yes, this book is below the average sixth grade reading level. However, I read this along with other books, orally, to my classes at the beginning of the school year. It gives the students a sneak preview as to what their studies are going to be all about. It also encourages the idea that history is not so bad after all. It should encourage them to read about history and may even introduce the genre to some students. The book also provides realism to the plight of the Vietnam War. It is a good book experience for all who read and/or listen to it.

New Edition?
The book is outstanding, but this "1999" almanac is obviously becoming a bit aged. Does anyone know when Ronald Alsop is releasing a new edition for 2001/2002?

An American Almanac, not a World an American Almanac
I bought this almanac because Wall Street Journal is the "America's premier business newspaper" and a worldwide institution. However, I think this book doesn't work about worldwide figures very well. Others almanacs have a better World Section.

Great Book
This is the best Almanac I have read for the 1999 year. This book is chop full of details facts and has a really Kewl Cover! I love it! Two Thousand Nasdaq Points Up!

Didn't Contain Significant Market Statistics
I needed to know the percentage return of the Dow Industrial Index, the S&P 500 index and a few other indices for the last 10 years. Fortunately, I thought, I had just received the Wall Street Journal Almanac for Christmas. Unbelievably, this information is not in the WSJ Almanac! The value of the Dow and other indices are listed, but to get the yearly percentage gains, you have to do the math an figure it out for yourself. And, the information to calculate the effect of reinvested dividends for these indexes is also not given. This was quite a disappointment for me. I can't imagine what the editors had in mind when they chose to omit this commonly used information.
