The Source of My Strength
In tragedy we need to know what the source of our strength is.
When I lost someone I loved I needed to remember that Christ is the Source of my strength. Thank you Charles Stanley for your guidance and for sharing your knowledge of the word.
I have also found it helpful to use another Christian book to help me continue to heal. It is Write From Your Heart, A Healing Grief Journal.
The answers and the comfort are in the word and in Him.

ENJOYABLE AND EASY TO FOLLOW
Charles Stanley's "The Source of My Strength" is simply wonderful. It was easy to follow and understand, and his examples were great. I especially liked the way he conveyed his feelings for Christ by creating imagery in the minds of the readers/listeners (I got the audio book, unabridged).

Mr. Stanley offers biblical principles that will help you discover your liberty in Christ so you can live fully and freely every day.

Get this! You won't be sorry!

Dr. Stanley Is Truly In Touch With God's Grace...
I bought this book because it was on sale at a local book store. I had seen Stanley speak before and figured it would be good reading. Little did I know this little book could steer my entire life in the right direction! Dr. Stanley just seems to have a gift of easing the truth through thick sculls like mine. Allowing the light in where it was completely dark. I recommend this book to anyone who has had anything go wrong in their life. My Charles Stanley collection continues to grow. God bless him!

Growing in Him
Charles Stanley's book can help you get on the right path when you are going through a tough time. I was lost when someone I loved passed away. My faith for the first time waivered. I've learned that when we are the most in need is when we need God most. I have a closer relationship with him and am learning more every day.
There is another book that is helping me to cope, Write from Your Heart, A Healing Grief Journal.
Immersing myself in the word has made a huge difference in the way I am healing.

The Blessings of Brokenness
I have to say that this was one of the most enjoyable books I have read in a long time. Reading about a chapter a night it took me through a course of revelations and growth, both introducing me to new concepts and renewing me familiarity with others. I liked that he wasn't afraid to quote scriptures (and let us know where they are so we can read them in context.) This book, coupled with much prayer, changed the way I look at life.

Inspiration for challenging times
This book is beneficial for everyone to read, christians and non-christians alike. It can be helpful reading for those who are going through difficult and challenging times. Charles Stanley examines some very tough questions of "Where is God" during our most strenuous periods in life. If you think you have gone through the worst that life has to offer, hit rock bottom, then this book can help you understand the true grace, mercy, and love of God. Challenge yourself and read God's message of why you need to be broken.

We could all use Wisdom!
This book is fantastic to meditate on. I enjoyed reading this book through the first, second, and third time! There are so many lessons to be learned in life and this book gives you ways to interpret happenings in life. It is certainly a tool to gain christian maturity and spiritual growth. I keep it as a reference and enjoy sharing it with my friends as they experience difficulties in their lives.

The Complete Guide to the Book of Proverbs is more in-depth.
Charles Stanley's book is a good basic introduction to the practical everyday wisdom in the book of Proverbs. Stanley's meditations highlight 31 themes to help you live life more skillfully. For a more in-depth look at King Solomon's wisdom read THE COMPLETE GUIDE TO THE BOOK OF PROVERBS by Cody Jones. It features 6 translations of Proverbs in parallel and a very interesting and readable commentary with historical photos that give you a sense of the culture of the time. It also examines and answers many of the riddles and mysteries in Proverbs.

Great Book!
I understand dogs much better now. Very well written easy to read book. I look at dogs in a different light thanks to this book! Interesting facts, i.e. the meaning of different wags of a dogs tail, make this book a fine read for any dog owner.

MUST have for dog lovers!!!!!
I have this book and I could not put it down. I have had a dog for every year of my life. My parents got me my first dog when I was two years old. And from the moment on I was taught to respect others, and to take care of my dog as well as others. I have had one dog that I know could have read a book if she could turn the pages. I taught her to eat at the table with me and she would sing and spell. I could spell any one of her toys and she would go get what ever I would spell without me having to say the name of the toy (mouse, bird, duck, ball, bone,or treat). I got her after I went through my divorce and so she was my "BUDDY".. When I would brush my teeth at night she would come in the bathroom for me to brush her teeth. And when I would blow dry my hair I had to brush her with the blow dryer. I trained her without this book and I wish that I had read this book first. I am planning on getting another dog soon. And now that I have read this book I feel that I wil! l be better prepared to train my next dog.

I could feel God's presence when I read these daily.
In this book, I read about the life-changing journeys of 12 biblical characters to learn how they met the Lord, and how I can do the same. I could really feel the presence of God as I read every daily devotional, I often caught myself reading the next few days devotions, just so I could continue in my devotion time with God.

Inspiring Devotions
Stanley has done it again in this inspiring devotional book for every day living. A great companion to this book for me was another meditation book, SOUL SATISFACTION, by Elizabeth Rankin Geitz. The two books together gave me both a male and female perspective on passages of scripture, enriching my understanding immeasurably. A great help in my every day life.

Devotions that are Powerful and to the Point
This book has wonderful devotions that say so much without a lot of words. They can be used in many different ways. There is a devotion for each day of the year with each month focusing on a particular theme. You can, of course, read the devotion that matches the particular date, or if you are dealing with issues, you can read a devotion pertaining to your particular issue. The key verse is included with most of them coming from the New King James Version. There is a scripture passage given that can be read from the Bible, but if you're short on time, you can just read the key verse and devotion. You can spend as little as 5-10 minutes and still receive a powerful message. It has helped me tremendously in my daily walk. I highly recommend it.

Enter His Gates is the perfect way to begin a day.
I highly recommend Enter His Gates, especially if you are seeking a better understanding of God and a closer walk with him. The book also helps to give insight into ourselves. The aspects of the book I enjoy most are: It's so clearly inspired and easy to understand. The messages are simple but powerful. There's a brief message and scripture for each day and also a perfectly devine short prayer to start each day with. It has enriched my life beyond my expectations!

Stanley Kubrick Director a Visual Analys
Published in Hardcover by Trafalgar Square ()
Author: Alexander Walker

Used price: $6.95
Average review score:

Great book on a complex genius
"Stanley Kubrick, Director" is probably the best book I have read yet on this great, but often debated about, filmmaker (I have yet to read Ciment's book, though, which I hear is much better) Kubrick was known for making controversial movies being "harsh" to his actors. The films examined in this book are his most well known and cover his various themes about humanity: "Fail Safe" machines going haywire (Dr. Strangelove), the dehumanization of men into machines and vice versa (2001, A Clockwork Orange, Full Metal Jacket) and man in collision with destiny and the past (Barry Lyndon, The Shining).

To date, this is the only major book made with the cooperation of Kubrick himself. The photographs in each chapter are taken from still frames from the actual films. The author provides brief summaries for each photograph, showing its use of lighting, camera placement or relation to another Kubrick film (Slow Motion shots, light used is from the light source one would expect at the actual location).

According to the author, anything in Kubrick's movies has symbolism or some meaning to it, and this is where the book's only flaw is. Camera angles, lighting, set design and decoration even phrases numbers and placements of objects can be interpreted to have some meaning. He also has interesting ideas about the movies (One of my favorites is his belief that the soldiers in Full Metal Jacket's boot camp are lab mice being experimented and reconditioned on). However, this can also be very, very helpful to understand the films more. The author shows that each Kubrick film can have more depth than meets the eye (If you still think "2001" is only about boredom, you need this book). Just make sure you have seen the movies before reading for there are major plot spoilers.

Not definitive but still intriguing
This is an interesting book, with a huge number of photographs detailing most of Kubrick's films. (The only ones not examined in depth are 'Fear and Desire,' 'Killer's Kiss,' 'The Killing,' 'Spartacus,' and 'Lolita.') The book is organized chronologically, with a small section in the middle of the book about Kubrick's use of color and an epilogue detailing Walker's personal encounters with Kubrick at the end. It is fun to read about Walker's stories about Kubrick, which shed some all-too-needed light on the personal life and motivations of the reclusive filmmaker.
On the whole, Walker's analyses of Kubrick's films are good, not great: I think he is really off-base in praising Tom Cruise's acting in 'Eyes Wide Shut' and in denigrating Kubrick's use of the occult in 'The Shining.' However, his analyses of 'Barry Lyndon' and 'Full Metal Jacket' were astute, and he successfully links certain themes and motifs throughout all of Kubrick's films.
Finally, although normally I don't like a huge amount of pictures in a book because of how they always jack up the price, here the pictures are well-chosen and either help jog your memory about the films or help you understand them if you haven't seen them. I will say that some of the pictures were much larger than they needed to be - I didn't need a full two-page spread of the atomic bomb exploding in 'Dr. Strangelove' - but that's a minor criticism.
All in all, a generally fun book.

Full Paper Jacket
This may be, as the notes above claim, the "most
comprehensive" book yet written on Kubrick. And it's clear the
author's personal relationship with him enhances understanding of his
films. But it's also obvious that the book was rushed onto the shelves
to capitalize on the publicity surrounding Kubrick's last film and the
director's death -- unless, of course, the typos and printer errors
are an artistic statement about mankind's pointless quest for
perfection...

The strongest part of the book is in finding subtle
similarities among the films, both in style and content, and in
tracing the evolution of the director's ability to put his ideas
onscreen.

But the writing is occasionally overblown, presenting
obvious points as if they were major revelations. The section on
'Kubrick's Use of Color' is almost laughable, looking like a
four-color decoy for the rest of the book's cheaply done b/w. its
analysis pretty much boils down to 'He used a lot of red.'

An
editorial description above refers to 'frame-by-frame' analysis, but
that's pretty misleading. There is some detailed technical insight,
but not for every film. And in sections that discuss particular
sequences, the accompanying photos are often on different pages. The
section on EWS is pretty splapdash.

But there is also some really
interesting stuff here. It's just too bad they didn't spend a little
more time sealing the cracks.
