Encouraging and uplifting.
This is one of the best books I have read this year. Scott is a great storyteller! The book is written so that you can read a few pages at a time or the whole book in one afternoon. Scott offers a great deal of scripture resources and prayer with each story. I would give this book to a friend going through some difficult days. Very inspiring!

A book that offers comfort.
This book was recommended to me when my Father was diagnosed with cancer. It offered me comfort, hope and promise,to know that life goes on. One of the things that stuck with me about this book was the quote about death being a horizon limited only by sight. I have loaned this book to many people over the last 10 years and recently gave it away to a friend of mine whose father was murdered. I am hopeful that when I need it again, I will be able to find it.

Alice Walker (Black Americans of Achievement)

Amazon base price: $22.95

very good
This book will be of especial help to young readers. I do, however have one quibble, and that is that the great writer Alice Walker has challenged white male prejudice so effectively that it is regrettable that there is not more discussion of this in the text. As a white radical feminist who sides with African-American women in their struggle against oppression, I am grateful that books like this are written.

A stunning and capivating book.
Lund's ability to mold and suspend an audience through the course of the book ensure literary success. This book was intriguing as it dealt with an individual's free agency. It contained a brilliant analysis of man's need for freedom. The author educates and captivates in an attempt to provoke the reader's thirst for quality literary content.

An Excellent Source
Walker's shows you how to work up a price and customize your bids. It takes some computation of your own (you definitely have to know your local labor costs) but it's definitely worth the effort because Walker's explains how jobs wind up costing a certain amount. A great book for sure.

Great Tool!!!
This book is unique in that it gives you the tools to obtain an accurate cost for your project with its own specific data. Having control over a project, and its BUDGET, depends on how well you know your estimate; and this book will teach you most of what you need to know about estimating.

A lot of book for your buck
This is like five books in one. I think it's an amazing value. My father used this book for about 40 years and, as a result, I became a disciple of the Walker method. I just picked up the new edition and I found the concrete and masonry chapters vastly improved. It teaches you how to factor in all those variables and to account for the unexpected and how to put together your own bid, something that estimating software has yet to do.

Interesting stories about God's work on our everyday lives.
Scott Walker is an excellent storyteller and has the ability to see and tell of the deep meaning of life's rather ordinary events. His down to earth style is attractive; all readers will catch glimpses of his/her own life story. Mr. Walker loves the Lord and has a gift for seeing Him work in our everyday lives as He so often does in a quiet and gentle way.

An excellent book for use with Christian study groups
This book was purchased on an impulse buy at a higher rate than through Amazon. The first chapter was tough reading because it was difficult to reconcile that chapter with normal day to day living. Lucky for me I decided to read chapter two as the author put the book on a more personal level, dealing with his own life experiences in getting "glimpses of God" at work around him. The book rapidly became very relevant to me on this more fundamental level. I decided to recommend the book (and Amazon's prices) to my men's group for use for the next three months (a chapter a week for discussion).

A Touching and Telling Compilation
This is a book I keep my eye on, for it has a personal feel to it. Scott Walker writes from his heart little stories with big meaning and I might add, this is a good book for pastors; I have used it for an illustration or two. A nice feature is that at the end of each chapter are scripture verses and quotes relating to the theme of the chapter. You can get your money's worth out of this one.

Highway to hell : the life & times of AC/DC legend Bon Scott
Published in Unknown Binding by Sun ()
Author: Clinton Walker
Amazon base price: $
Average review score:

I CAN'T UNDERSTAND THE YOUNG BROTHERS....
I can't understand the Young Brothers ruthless personality. I love AC/DC.
So, when a writer like CLinton Walker tries "heroically" to pay a unabiased tribute to Bon Scott, one should expect that the Young clan would give support to his project.

No. That didn't happen. Malcolm, Angus, George, drummer Phil Rudd, Harry Vanda, ex-manager Peter Mensch, well, nobody connected to Alberts Productions accepted to give an interview for this book, which was almost a "last chance" to homage their fallen comrade. This is even made worse by the fact that Bon's parents, Chuck and Iza, gave their blessing to the project...
Just intriguing, I assume... The author could not even obtain permission to quote from Bon's lyrics, what would have certainly made the book still better!!!
As for the book, it's excellent, altough it quotes so much from Bon's girlfriends (as explained above, this was the only line of action left to the author).
As for people within the band, the most interesting sources are ex-bassist Mark Evans and ex-manager Michael Browning. Altough sometimes criticizing the band, they (and the author) did it in a very soft manner, with respect and gallantry.
Well, once we don't have (and probably never will) any kind of oficial biography about AC/DC, we've gt to put our hands upon anything released. And this is a fine effort!

VERY GOOD READING
This book is simple a must if you're a real AC/DC fan. Altough it is focused mainly on Bon Scott ( for the simple reason of the man's unbeliavable great charisma ), of course it deals a lot about AC/DC's career until the "HIGHWAY TO HELL" album. YOu have to got a little patience in the first hundred pages or so, when the book deals with all the secundary bands Bon worked before joining the Young Brothers. But this phase is fundamental in understanding the man's backgorund and way of life. Of course there is no official quote from AC/DC actual members ( AC/DC would never permit it!!!), but a lot of interviews from ex-bassist Mark Evans. What becomes clear after reading the book (what was already clear for clear-minded fans) is how the band lost creativity after Bon died, mainly in the lyrical department. The book reveals that some years ago the band even contemplated sacking Brian Johnson (the guy just can't sing or scream anymore - it's awful !!). The band today is almost an "Institution", like the Stones (that's why they released only two albuns in the entire period since 1991)and losing their second singer could be a definitive blow to the band. All in all, this book is a must have.

Awsome book!!!!!!!!!!!!
The book is great!!! You find out the story behind Bon Scott. I was very touched by this book. Bon lived more life than most people will EVER see in their whole entire lifetime. And he died so young. Right before AC/DC got SUPERHUGE. But as it was stated in the book, the band moved on, and it's the way Bon would have wanted it. Nothing could have been done to change that. Clinton Walker does a very good job of making Bon out to be the legend he surely was.

Simple, yet great book on faith development
This is a short and simple work, yet it is profound. It outline's the author's spiritual journey. Great for college students, since the author deals a lot with his stuggles through his college years. He also offers his analysis of the journey. He doesn't dig too deep, but offers the reader an opportunity for the reader the examine his/her own journey. A great book.

Scott Walker: a Deep Shade of Blue

Good read, but still a few holes
If you're a fan of the Walker Brothers, this is a must, but if you are a fan of only Scott Walker then this book is a bit of a letdown. Scott, as you can guess, didn't lend himself to the book.

There's a lot of info about Scott's pre-Walker Brothers groups. There's also a lot of info about Scott's early days with the Walker Brothers and their huge fame in England in the mid 1960's, their subsequent breakup, Scott's popular and critically acclaimed solo career, and career mistakes in the 1970's which leads to the Walker Brothers reunion from 1975-1978.

The author tries hard to fill in the blanks with others to tell the stories, but like the story where Walker enrolls in an arts program in the mid-1980's in London we learn very little except he was a skinny, tall American who was vaguely familiar to the teacher. Or the part about when Brian Eno & Daniel Lanois tried to produce a Scott Walker solo album in the late 1980's, only to have the sessions fail - very little information is given.

Almost as much attention is given about John Maus and Gary Leeds' failed post-Walker Brothers careers as Scott's.

This book was also finished before the release of Scott's 1995 solo album, "Tilt", which is a weird masterpiece of dark poetry, industrial clatter, and sheer beauty. It's a shame the book couldn't have waited to give more insight on "Tilt". It had only been 11 years since the last Scott Walker solo album. I think they could have waited.

Don't let my 3 star review scare you off. If you're a Scott Walker fan then this is a good one to read, although it's nothing definitive by any means.

For fans, an essential read.
It's tough to find information on this guy. For now, this book is as close as you're gonna get. Absolutely fascinating, in spite of the sometimes frustrating lack of info, especially post 1984. "Tilt," his 1995 recording (a masterpiece, albeit very strange and somewhat inaccessible, musically speaking) may be the last we hear from him.

i have seen the wind, and it's cold enough for me
this book opens with blackwood's great story: the wendigo. B is the master of the setting, noone can create the background and atmosphere like him. a very well written story from Brennan here. and Meloff's story is also an interesting read. derleth is at his best here. i don''t care that much for the guy, have never considered him to be HPL's great successor or anything, but he knows how to write, and i have always considered his story about Ithaqua to be his best contribution. the rest of the stories are well written. i don't think any of chaosium's anthologies contains of so much good writing than this. but good is not great. and the rest of the stories never turns out to be really good. the suspence killed by irrelevant writing going on for too long, mostly. sad. but the book is still wort reading
