Spanish Civil War casts suspensenet 50 years in future
This is my fifth Goddard, and each maintains a freshly unique, suprising, suspensful character. The Spanish Civil War is an active character in the novel, and offers a valuable learning experience in itself. The theme of webs, connections and linkages continues from Goddard's other novels. All issues are finally resolved but not without unexpected twists and turns that make it difficult to put the book down.

A double ending!
The plot is well thought out. Unlike most of Goddard's books, half way through, I was sure that I fully understood what was going on and who had committed the murder. All the facts fitted my suppositions so I was a little disappointed at how easy it was to determine what was going on. Then the plot changed dramatically and all my suppositions were proved to be wrong. Red herrings galore! The final pages of the book reveal the most plausible of solutions to the scenario. As with most of RG's books, the final pages reveal a solution not thought of, but altogether too plausible. An Excellent read! Terry Hockenhull

The diary of Francis Kilvert, June-July 1870

Kilvert's Diary
In a small second-hand book shop crowded with everything from Batman comics to Emily Dickinson's poetry I found a battered copy of Kilvert's diary. Written in the 1870's, Kilvert meticulously detailed life of a country curate in the mid-Wales area. What a wonderful book! Anyone who is Welsh, or would like to be, should read Kilvert. Here is one of my favorite entries: "1873 - Tuesday, Midsummer Day. Walter Brown of the Marsh says that his grandfather once saw some fairies in a hedge. But before he could get down out of the cart they were gone." Another one of my favorite entries is: "1873 - Wednesday, July 16. As I walked along the field path I stopped to listen to the rustle and solemn night whisper of the wheat, so different to its voice by day. The corn seemed to be praising God and whispering its evening prayer. Across the great level meads near Chippenham came the martial music of a drum and fife bank, and laughing voices of unseen girls were wafted from farms and hayfields out of the wide dusk." It's too bad that much of Kilvert is out of print. But anyone who appreciates a delightfully written book filled with observations of nature, God, the people of Wales, Welsh customs, etc. will be rewarded if they take the trouble to find one of his books. I sent my copy of Kilvert to my cousin, who lives in Wales and she is hooked.

An Instrument of Revival: The Complete Life of Evan Roberts, 1878-1951

Very Comprehensive!
The Welsh Revival of 1904 is one of the most fascinating of the many experienced in Wales. Evan Roberts is a challenge to the modern pulpiteer in that he was not as well educated or experienced, but he was simply a man whose heart was ablaze for CHRIST. Mr. Jones did a superb job on the entire life of this unique man. I recommend it for it imparts vision and also warning of the enemy's tactics to destroy revival and the ones whom GOD uses. He showed the changes in Evan's life and heart that transpired through the years, yet he clearly showed us that Evan's heart never stopped beating for heaven sent revival!

Di's American background
It should come as no surprise that the late Princess Diana had strong American connections through her Spencer heritage and Roberts skillfully outlines the most important and useful links among her estimated 20 million living American relatives. Di had ancestors in six of the thirteen colonies, so non-New Englanders need not despair. The principal author is well known for his work at the New England Historic Genealogical Society and this not-large volume is crammed with useful gateway ancestors in abbreviated and modified Register format.
