This is an excellent book on qigong. Probably the best qigong book I've ever read. I bought this book when I lived in Boulder, CO. The book's editors Ross and Michael Cohen lived in Colorado at the time, and practiced Yan Xin Qigong with our group in Boulder occasionally.

Yan Xin's lectures are full of wisdom. He's one of a kind. I feel he has a true scientific approach and does not seek to become famous or wealthy. Of all the qigong masters in the public eye, he really has the most well developed sense of scientific detachment.

If you can find this book, buy it. Only problem is, this book is out of print from what I understand. You may have to search a lot before finding a used copy.

If you want to understand the basic and yet amazing levels Traditional Chinese Qigong can reach, this is a good book to start with. Lots of theories and practices are simple but powerful. Dr. Yan Xin's scientific experiments has caught lots of attention of top scientists. This book is a good start of touching the tip of the iceburg.

I found that one can learn a lot about traditional qigong from Dr. Yan Xin's speech. He is very objective and knowledgable about traditional qigong. All the examples mentioned in the book are tracible with scitific proof. Dr. Yan Xin, unlike most popular qigong master, doesn't try to "sell" his own qigong method. He uses "I" or "me" very few times when he explains qigong, except telling his own stories. He encourages people to learn qigong with a scietific approach and attitude, which is very different from the other qigong masters. I am quite impressed about his medical knowledge and traditonal Chinese culture background as well.

If you want to see the power of qigong in a objective and scitific way, I recommand you to read this book.

My kids (ages 7 & 9) have really enjoyed this book. Telling the stories the wrong way first, then the right way, really makes them memorable.

First, a slightly-doctored Bible story (e.g., after Adam and Eve eat the fruit, they lived happily ever after; the lions put ketchup on Daniel before they ate him; Goliath and David became friends) - followed by a big "HEY! That's NOT what the Bible says!" - and then the REAL story, with a to-the-point message. (And, at the back of the book, excerpts from the relevant Scriptures). Stories go from Adam and Eve to the Resurrection of Jesus. Great learning book to read to young children, hilarious illustrations - you'll love it!

Never thought my son would be so tickled over Bible stories. Great stuff! And he definitely gets the point of each story.

This is a second version in the same format - introducing a Bible story (from old and new testaments) but adding a little silly twist at a crucial point. Was there a fast food chain in the desert? Did a stork actually visit Sarah? Kids and adults were giggling as we read through this book, and the new book owner was very proud that it was _his_ book. A great tool to help remember how the actual stories go!

Faith Encounter is written with a style that is easy to read. The authors use language that is familiar to today's youth and keep each lesson to the point. I would expect the average youth would be able to complete the scripture reading and devotional text in a 15-20 minutes. The applications found in each devotion are clearly stated and are easy to grasp and apply on a daily basis.

Although it was written as a devotional, the clear organization and pace make it ideal as a primary resource for group Bible study as well. It would be easy to complete 2 or more days in a 30-60 minute study period.

We moved to Utah this Summer and have found this book to be by far the most useful guide to Utah available. It is much more interesting than your standard guidebook. We never leave the house for more than a half hour without Kerig's book, and it has yet to steer us wrong. The restaurant guide sections and the sections on skiing and outdoor recreation are especially helpfull. Buy this book if you want to get the most out of your trip to Utah - especially Salt Lake City.

Bill Viola rules my dreams. The exhibition at the Whitney stunned me and it stayed with me for a long time. I wish there were more images from his notebooks in this collection since the display of notes/inspirations were as fascinating as the installations themselves. You might have seen some of his work featured in the recent Nine Inch Nails US tour. If you want to see the zenith of video/installation art, you must spend some time with Bill Viola's work. (He's also a delight to meet).

This is a first class combat narrative of the battle fought at Iwo Jima. I have not read any other accounts of this battle and I found that this book provided more than enough information to satisfy my interest. I note that one previous reviewer talks about the book being tedious in the reader following one man to his death and then being replaced by another. I found that this only brought home the terrible nature of the type of warfare carried out on the Pacific Islands towards the end of WW2. Some of the stories of the men who earned America's highest decoration were truely sad and they rightly deserved to be told in this book. Overall this is an excellent combat narrative and I recommend it to anybody who wants to learn about this terrible conflict.

With all the attention given James Bradley's "Flags of Our Fathers" over the past couple of years, I have been afraid that Bill Ross might be neglected. This earlier work on Iwo Jima is really different than "Flags" and for a full understanding of that battle, both should be read. "Legacy" is a fuller and better-written depiction of the difficulties and horrors of the fight, and of the political decisions that led to it and shaped its progress, or lack of it. "Flags" is excellent in its own way, but is more the tale of the accidentally famous flag-raisers after the island was won, and before they enlisted. This is a grim and gripping story, and it is unlikely anyone else will come along and do a better job telling the tale of Iwo.

Over the past few months I have read many accounts of the war in the Pacific. E.B. Sledge's "With the Old Breed" told of valor, sacrifice, suffering, and savagery through the eyes of one man. "Iwo Jima" gives a vast panorama of those things. We see the battle in all its horror, but we also see the good accomplished from the terrible sacrifice of so many men. The book gives a balanced, comprehensive account of a bloody page of American history.

This book looks very helpful for those just starting to learn sleights, and appears to cover the major areas (coins, cards, balls, and cigarettes). However, it's directions are slightly confusing and its illustrations are not as clear as they could have or should have been. It's also lacking in teaching presentation and performance. It is not completely bad, however it is also not the first book that I would recommend to people wishing to become sleight of hand artists. If you were purchasing several books on sleight of hand this would be appropriate to include, but otherwise stick to the Dover series on magic (Modern Coin Magic by JB Bobo, The Encyclopedia of Card Tricks and Advanced Card Manipulations by Huegard, The Art of Magic by JB Bobo, and generally any book published by Dover Publishing Inc).

If you are looking for a easy to follow, step by step magic book, this is it. Tricks with cards, coins,balls,cigarettes and more. If you are new to magic then this book is a MUST !!

There are basically two types of magicians -- gadgeteers and finger-flingers. Please note, this is not meant to insult either group. A gadgeteer tends toward self-working magic -- things that are set up, and effectively work by themselves. This frees the magician to focus on presentation and entertainment, and not as much on the mechanics of the trick or illusion. Finger-flingers, on the other hand, tend toward actual sleight of hand, relying on their own skill to perform the seemingly impossible. This takes longer to master, but gives greater confidence, as well as the ability to perform anywhere, with whatever is at hand. This book is for those who want to be finger-flingers, or who want to look at that side of the aisle. Bill Tarr has created a wonderful resource. It's incredibly well-illustrated, showing both the magician's & the audience's view, for each trick or sleight. He also grades the individual tricks based on its' difficulty. And he covers a great many sleights of hand, as well as several complete routines -- you get a lot of "bang for your buck" here. He also is honest and up-front. He tells you straight away that this will require practise. For those seeking instant gratification, seek elsewhere. But if you're willing to practice (not of the sleights of hand are difficult, but they do require time and effort -- like learning anything else worth learning).

I'd been looking for book like this forever and I finally found it. I've read a lot of "how to draw cartoons" books, but this one has special place in my library. Nowlin's Fenway Saved is pretty good collection of photos and writings, and a good gift for a Sox fan, but it does not compare to Shaughnessy's book. The photos in the "rival" book are far superior. ALthough Fenway Saved does include some interesting shots / angles, overall, its photography is mediocre. Similarly, Shuaghnessy's offering possesses far superior writing. Finally, Nowlin's book also had some glaring errors as well as odd omissions.

Again, a good gift or purchase for any fan, but only after purchasing the other book.

About the new Fenway book - never mind what Humphrey Bogart said about the Maltese Falcon - this is the stuff that dreams are made of. The photos are excellent - none of the run-of-the-mill shots of dugouts and locker rooms. This is all about the mystique of Fenway - what makes it as Roger Angell has described it "the best place in the world to watch baseball." Good stories abound. The book connects beautifully with all the nostalgia that mightily surrounds the place.

I recently received this book from an avid Red Sox fan and was gratefully surprised. Being a Red Sox fan myself since childhood, I quickly found myself back experiencing the sights and sounds and smells of Fenway and recall sitting in the bleachers, the smell of beer and cigars, the Wall, Carl Yastrzemski... I was there, too, at the Impossible Dream game and it brought back memories of the high pitched excitement, the fans running onto the field to get close to their heroes and driving home yelling out the window of the car "we're #1" to all of Boston who was doing the same.

I enjoyed learning about Fenway's history, what makes Fenway tick and the passion of the people who take pride in their work and do what it takes to make this baseball stadium feel like home. For I still make my yearly visits to Fenway and it always feels like home.

Though this book is about Fenway Park, it captures the essence of the "baseball experience" that so many people love and what makes it so.
