Puerto Ricans: A Documentary History

A complete documentaty textbook on Puerto Rican history
It is a very well documented book, and provides proof or evidence of each historic event. It is objective and is not biased toward any political view. The best thing of the book is that it fills those empty spaces I had from my years studying PR history. With this book, I was able to see the "whole picture" or in other words "tie those loose ends".

A real gem, in my opinion. I still refer to it a lot. When my kids have questions about Puerto Rico, I read passages from the book to them. I absolutely recommend it.

There is one recommendation I would like to give to the editors. Given the number of significant historic events about the Puerto Ricans that have happened since the book was last published in 1994, I recommend the editors to revise this wonderful documentary to bring it up-to-date.

An eye opener
This book was amazing. I love the format the author used. Unlike other history books the author uses actual documents from Puerto Rico's history to tell her story. After reading this book, I now have an understanding of where my family came from, and more pride in us. Thank you Kal!

A must read for U.S. Puerto Ricans!
This book is a beautiful, engrossing documentary on the history of the Puerto Ricans. It gives the reader an insight into the real history of the island and it unfolds as you turn each page by sharing actual excerpts from letters written by people who were there from when the island was first discovered by Columbus through the days when it became a Common Wealth of the U.S. Every Puerto Rican or person interested in Puerto Rico who is not familiar with its history must read this book! I always look for books by Wagenheim and Jimenez de Wagenheim who truly have such passion for Puerto Rico and who feel it is the readers god given right to know as much as they can about the truth and not the propaganda. This book should be part of the history curriculum at all schools and especially those that have a large number of Puerto Rican children.

Gripping, breathtaking
I receive many books for review; thus, when I opened Jorge Klainman's The Seventh Miracle I planned to skim through it, but I couldn't;it grabbed me from the start...Klainman relates this tale of horror like a born storyteller; he writes with the great economy and simplicity of on who has lived it, which creates in the reader a high degree of empathy...His story is both heroic and sad, and yet (I can't believe that I am writing this) it also has moments of humor. The saddest part of this incredible story is that his brother Moniek, who had managed to survive the Holocaust, should die shortly afterwards from complications of appendicitis, before Klainman could be reunited with him. Highly recommended reading, gripping, breathtaking until the very end. -- Mario Wainstain, Aurora Weekly, Tel Aviv.

Triumph of the human spirit
It is with deep emotion that I read The Seventh Miracle. To think that a young boy, bereaved of all his family, had to experience what he did; to know that he did not share his horrible experiences with his family or friends for decades--so deeply were they engraved in him; and to understand that they burst out with full force after having spent 50 years in Argentina--this is what the reader of this unique book is requested to do. He has undergone such tortures, physically and emotionally; he spent his boyhood in ghettos and camps--and still he remained an optimist, a man of values and hope. I believe the book should reach a many hands as possible, in order to spread this story of the triumph of the Jewish spirit-- ....

A good book for any baseball fan
I really enjoyed this book. As a baseball fan (and a NYY fan), I had to read about Ruth. A great person from some aspects, this book took a look at the Babe from every point of view. It showed Ruth from his private and public life, his love life to his Saturday night (to Sunday morning)life. This was a very good book.

A nice remembrance of a great player
This book came out about a year after Roberto Clemente's death in a plane crash. The author mixes narrative and interviews with Clemente's family and friends. It's nice reading for those of us who loved watching number 21 throw strikes from the right field fence and hit line drives with his unorthodox batting style. It's good reading also for those who only know Clemente from ESPN footage.
