Mechanical Properties of Ceramics was the textbook used in my graduate Ceramics Engineering Class. I felt that the book was rather lacking in many respects. Very often, formulas occured without any explanation of their origin or any sort of derivations. Additionally, a few of the derivations that were presented were wrong.

Many of the concepts were explained very vaguely and it was difficult to follow the author's train of thought. It was sometimes difficult to follow why various conclusions could be drawn, or why certain assumptions could be made.

As a student, I do not think that this was a very good textbook. During my course, I tried to read the textbook carefully and in detail, but often found myself very confused. The text and the mathematical formulations and the conclusions did not follow a logical and consistent order.
