Outstanding resource
for parents, teacher and families.

This wonderful book offers alternative ways of looking at the issues that all students deal with in school. It offers ways of dealing with these situations by all adults.

I have bought several copies for teachers and parents .... and all have found 'wisdom' in the pages ... for all students.

Finally! Thank the Lord!
Distilling complex research into manageable bites, and writing in plain English, Vail brings knowledge of current brain research on emotion into everyone's bailiwick. Great job! Author, please keep writing. I love your style, your content, your zest and your compassion

Smart Kids with School Problems
A very insightful book that explains how a child can demonstrate both brilliance and learning difficulties. The section on testing gave a wonderful explanation of common assessments, exploring the intricacies of scores typically found in these kids.

only good book on kids both gifted & learning disabled
This may seem contradictory, but a fairly significant number of people struggle with the double problem of being both gifted and learning disabled. Priscilla Vail has been there, in all roles, child, adult, parent, teacher, and counselor. She shares what she learned the hard way in a warm, easy-to-read style with plenty of common sense and compassion. The book was an enormous help to me at a time when I needed it, not least by reassuring me that our family was not alone in facing these problems. I have recommended it to everyone I know who is involved with such special children in any capacity and I would heartily recommend it also to any Amazon customers who need information on these sorts of difficulties.

lower prices but shipping was double the order price
I really wanted to order 10-12 of these books. they are great for teachers and parents, but even with the lower price from elephant books, the shipping cost was double the book total. Offer better shipping fees and get better business. Otherwise,I won't buy from you because the ship fees were outrageous.

Helping Others Understand
This book is the only one I have read that gives examples of what can happen to a dyslexic child through every grade of school-particularly when their dyslexia goes unchecked. This is a great book to give to people who want to understand your child and how this learning difference affects them. It is a short, sensitive, information packed read.

Wordplay, word trains, and word sprints for dyslexia or ADD
Words may fail my 9-year-old daughter, who was just diagnosed as dsylexic, but they don't fail Priscilla Vail. Her lilting, richly descriptive prose makes this book a quick read. It is obvious that Vail has developed a love for playing with words.

"Words Fail Me" is one of about 20 books that my school district recommends for parents of students with learning disabilities, and it was the first one that I chose to read. I bought it hoping to find out "what is dsylexia" and "what do I do about it". Instead the book takes an opposite tack: "how do we learn language" and "what goes wrong". Thus, my original objective was somewhat unfulfilled. In fact, I was left even more mystified by Vail's repeated use of the term "THE dyslexiaS" without explaining why she uses the plural tense. However, the value of the book stems from: (1) painting the picture of how critical language is to all aspects of life (e.g., helping our kids master language skills is incredibly important), (2) logical, sequential explanations of how kids learn and what gets in the way of learning, and (3) a prescription of 10 practical, specific things to do at the end of each chapter, many of which have to do with developing a love for wordplay.

Surprisingly, the book is probably just as valuable for parents of ADD kids, because it also highlights the importance of understanding the passage of time and developing a willingness to wait.

One recommendation, from a story in the book: When your child comes home from school today, ask "Did you ask any good questions in school today?"
