We liked this book
Carolina and her family went on a journey. They saw some Indians. Some were mean and some were nice. I liked it beause it had both sad and happy parts.

I really enjoyed this book .
In the story Carolina's Courage, the family moved west. The family moved because their farmland was hard and small. Carolina wanted to take her doll,Lyddya Lou, and her cherry wood chair. But her Dad said she could only take one thing. So she took Lyddya Lou. On their journey alot of things happened. She learned the true meaning of courage. We liked this story because it had alot of details and interesting parts.

Carolina's Sacrifice
This is a gentle, moving story about a young pioneer girl who courageously goes west to Nebraska with her family. Each family member leaves behind things he or she cherishes but each gets to take something as well. Carolina takes her precious china doll, like the one that has been passed down in my own family for generations. Carolina ends up sacrificing her doll for the good of her family and others.

Elizabeth Yates' stories are well-written, are sensitive to the feelings of children, have strong family values, and are gently faith-promoting.

Really enjoyable!
Hi, I just discovered this book for my kids, .... It is a serene, relaxing book, just the thing to read aloud on a blustery winter evening.
The language is evocative, the characters warm and real. Read it- you won't regret it!
....

Words of Wisdom
Although written for children, there are many words of wisdom in this lovely book. One of my favorites is: "A man must have a care to what he puts in his mind, for when he's alone on a hillside and draws it out he'll want treasures to be his company, not regrets."

Yates uses rich language and imagery in her writing that vividly remind one of the simple things in life. "She snapped out a man's shirt...fastening it with pins to the line."

This book treats, with sensitivity, the loss of one's beloved pet. It portrays strong family values and work ethic from a simpler time.

Enjoyable
A warm well written book about a shepherd boy and a speical lamb. I read it to my children and we all really enjoyed it. I'm glad to have it in our family library.

A link with the past
Thanks so much for publishing this book. I am a decendent of Chase Whitcher and had heard stories about Cousin Sarah. What a joy to pass this on to my children. This book is well written and helps children learn how wild animals can be a friend in time of need. This gutsy little girls meets a bear in the woods. She is lost cold and knows that she needs shelter. The "big dog" comes to her rescue. Great reading for a group of children. Goes well with another book about Sarah Whitcher, "The Bear That Heard Crying" by Natalie Kinsey Warmock and Helen Kinsey.

Proof that our Father cares for each of us is in this story.
Sarah's story was the tool we used to show our family how God is real and cares for each of us. Although the recommmended age is 7-9 we read a chapter to the whole family for part of our Bible story. Even my husband was captivated. We had a hard time closing the book after each chapter. Young readers can read with confidence, and little listeners are pulled into the wonderful dialogue and see the care the family characters have for each other. Our family loved this story. We do have a loving Father who cares for us and shows us time and again through many different lives just how much.
