unique insight
Studies today revolve around body image and ignore the emotions and thoght processes vital to understanding eating disorders. Bruch brilliantly describes what it is to suffer from these wayward thought processes, and offers an incredibly insightful and intimate look into the world of an anorexic. Excellent for those who are suffers and for those trying to understand.

History Remembered
This is an excellent book as research or for enjoyment. I may be a bit biased as I am the author's granddaughter and she is my namesake. The men and their stories are amazing. It gave me a chill when I met one of them where I was waitressing and he recognized my name and introduced himself as one of the Erwin Nine. I felt like I knew all about him and yet, instead of a bitter, wounded veteran, I met a kind and humorous man with a really positive outlook on life. This book will give you a great lift and a better insight into the human spirit. Also, it is a great tribute to the generation that came of age during World War II and how much they overcame to make it a better place for us today.

Better than Tom Sawyer
Read any of Hilda van Stockum's three Bantry Bay books, and you will come to the conclusion that she is one of the finest authors of children's fiction. Period. And six year-old Francie O'Sullivan is perhaps her finest creation. Francie will make you his friend, nay, his admirer. This bold little boy has all the panache of Tom Sawyer as well as the goodness and piety Tom lacks. FRANCIE ON THE RUN tells of Francie's adventures on his roundabout journey home to County Cork after he sneaks out of a Dublin hospital where he is recovering from surgery. This novel, the second in the series, can be read on its own. I suggest, however, that you read THE COTTAGE AT BANTRY BAY first; you'll want to find out how Francie's impoverished family was able to send him to Dublin. All three books, but especilly FRANCIE ON THE RUN, are first and foremost corking good stories: my three year old never tires of having them read to him; yet older children, even teenagers (and adults too), will find them thoroughly enjoyable reading. The greatest beauty of these stories, however, is the author's masterful way of teaching children virtue without sounding preachy.

excerpt from review in Choice, by S. Hoover, Alfred U.
Gregory enlarges understanding of the influence of Hellenism, especially Alexandrian, on the literature of the earthy 20th century and on the work of H.D. Her detailed scholarship is delightfully readable and informative....Highly recommended for undergraduates, graduate students and scholars. A significant contribution to H.D. studies.

My two year old and I enjoy Hilda Hen's Happy Birthday
Hilda Hen's Happy Birthday has been my 2 year old daughter's favorite book for two months running. We love the beautiful illustrations. We can tell that Mary Wormell knows chickens first hand and their funny & quirky personalities. We have a "Hilda" also, and her name is Henrietta. Like Hilda, she also thinks that the flower bed is her personal dust bath.
