A Fresh Approach
Other reviews here have explained the content and value of this book very well. I would add only that this work is important to the practicing astrologer because it does show how to focus on key elements of tension within the chart when a client seeks a consultation. Most people seeking astrological counseling for the first time are in some sort of crisis and need affirmation of and help with their experience. Using many examples that are clearly explained, Mr. Tyl does a superb job of showing how to be as effective as possible without wasting time. This work should be in every astrologer's library.

Useful methods to conduct consultation
This book can be said to be a very useful book for astrological practitioners who want to make the best of limited time for consultation. The title of the book says the "creative" astrologer, since Mr. Tyl believes that neither therapists' credentials (i.e., Ph.D., M.A., and so on) nor experience are not relevant to the effectiveness of therapy.

The aim of this book is to instruct how to conduct an effective counseling and provide numbers of applicable examples. If possible, I recommend you to read Basil Fearrington's "The New Way to Learn Astrology" before reading this book. The author of "The New Way-" is a Mr. Tyl's student, who explains Mr. Tyl's theory very clearly. If you read this book first, you can understand easily theoretical background of "The Creative Astrologer~."

In his creative counseling, Mr. Tyl emphasizes the importance of thinking deeper into parental influences and persistent tendencies that one have been continuing from childhood. In this sense, he takes much of the effects of transiting Saturn's aspects to Angles and to Saturn (7,14,28-30, 35, 42-45, 60 years old) in the natal chart. Also, he put weight on Moon due to its importance in developmental stage. In the late chapter is like a cookbook filled with his "creative" connections among planets and houses.

Although I am not so much interested in the main parts of this book, i.e., case studies of a siingle session and his advice, this book can be of great use for practical use of astrology.

Relevant Astrology That Puts People First
More than any other living astrologer, Noel Tyl has wholeheartedly dedicated himself to the comprehensive blending of the very best that psychotherapy and astrology have to offer. His studies with the psychologists Henry A. Murray and Gordon Allport, the sociologist George Homans, the anthropologist Clyde Kluckhohn, and the theologian Paul Tillich have informed and enriched his perspective. His own vast individual experiences as a businessman, as a global traveller, as an artist and performer, and as the facilitator in thousands of therapeutic sessions with his astrological clients bring overwhelming clarity and credibility to everything he does. He never ceases adding value to the discipline of astrology, steadfastly helping it keep pace with the most sophisticated advances in modern humanistic studies. His influence is truly enormous-- it's fair to say that everyone who connects with a competent, knowledgable astrologer today owes Noel Tyl a debt of gratitude, directly or indirectly.

Best of all, Noel Tyl never stops learning and growing, and he has shared the fruits of that ongoing growth in the nearly two dozen books he has authored or edited. In his newest book, The Creative Astrologer, he has expanded his vision of relevant personal astrology to a new, incredibly fulfilling level-- astrology, in his eyes, can immeasurably enrich people's lives as a single-session counseling approach that provides "insight study for self-help assistance," provided that the astrologer approaches this important work with consciousness, compassion, and creativity.

In The Creative Astrologer, Tyl not only presents a convincing case for his view of astrology as a therapeutic tool for personal empowerment; he also provides detailed, step-by-step insights into the counseling process, dramatically illustrating his writing with case studies that make the theory a living reality on the page. There's much in this book on the nuances of communication in an astrological counseling session, with specific guidance on questioning techniques, presentation skills, objectification, creative listening, disclosure, and the like. There are solid, sensible tips on relating to client expressions of anger and depression; on discerning needs, feelings, and coping mechanisms; and on doing the necessary astrological preparation prior to meeting the client.

Above all, this book is a call for astrologers to make creative connections (hence its title!) with clients and their horoscopes. Tyl notes that "the creative astrologer feels good about life, feels that there is a purpose for developmental tension" and can "relate the horoscope to the life being lived by the client." He admonishes astrologers "to look beyond the obvious; to play astro-detective." And throughout his book, he encourages astrologers to be sensitive in paying attention to their clients, to be competent and ethical, and above all, to think. "Together," Tyl says, "astrologer and client achieve insight, rebalance judgment and values, and affect change. And it feels good."

The Creative Astrologer is an important book. It brings clarity, insight, and life-supporting energy to the practice of person-centered astrology. It's a book with a lot of heart. If you're an astrologer, you certainly don't want to pass this one up.

But even if you're not an astrologer yourself, if you personally know or work with an astrologer, don't waste any time. Buy a copy of The Creative Astrologer immediately and then give it to the astrologer of your acquaintance. Your gift will benefit both of you immeasurably!

A Valuable Resource
I started studying astrology in my spare time nearly four years ago. Most of what I've learned has come from following the discussions of friends and reading books they've recommended.

Tyl's work is high on their list of reference materials. After reading Solar Arcs, it is easy to see why. Tyl's writing style is user friendly. His clear, well-defined examples make it a valuable resource for skilled astrologers & students as well.

I look forward to reading Synthesis & Counseling in Astrology next.

Indispensable Tool
Tyl's work is a must-have for any astrologer wishing to add precision and clarity to predictive work. He uses many case studies and examples (including a very courageous and honest assessment of his own chart) to illustrate solar arc technique. He demonstates the theory behind the technique, and shows how amazingly simple and yet astounding it is.

Solar Arcs: Astrology's Most Successful Predictive System
Mr. Tyl's books are always informative and this book is no exception. In fact, his style and presentation seems to improve with each new book he writes (which seems impossible since his earlier books are simply the best)!

The examples bring considerable insight into the actual process of interpretation. The flow of information is sequential and logical, enhancing the readability of this book.

Don't let the "size" of this book overwhelm you. Mr. Tyl takes a daunting topic and makes it completely "reader friendly" with insight and widsom rolled in, to it round out.

The Whole Relationship
Another sagacious volume from Tyl. His amiable writing style takes the reader where no "cookbook" could ever wend. He prepares the student to investigate the "needs" of the individual behind the chart while providing insight for the helpful guidance in understanding these needs. This book is not for the beginner or faint of heart. Be prepared to roll up your sleeves for some indepth work in the art of synastry.

A Well-written, Entertaining Book.
I cannot say Noel Tyl is the greatest astrologer I've ever known, but certainly he is a gifted writer & astro-psychologist with a considerable degree of charm. Please ignore its childish cover design which reminds me of kindergarten textbook - the content is truly entertaining.

I'm sure I'll come back to it many times
I've been reading astrological books for several years now and this is one ot the two best out of fifty. What impresses me is the fact that in the book written by nine people, each having a different approach to astrological counseling, there is no single sentence or thought which contradicts anything else in the book. In a field of astrology we could find contradictions produced by one author in one and the same book. Another thing - any counselor could combine any or all of these techniques with his own succesfully. Deep thoughts are expressed simply - although English isn't my mother tongue, I could read it without using a dictionary. My congratulations and thanks to Mr.Tyl for putting together the essence of counseling work of some of the best astrologers in the world.

EXCELLENT INFORMATION - EASY TO READ
I would like to say that I enjoyed this book .The author apparently schooled under Noel Tyl. How exciting to learn from the best. ( At least one of the best) This( the quindicile) is an old aspect brought to light by Mr.Tyl.The author is clear and concise in her writings and makes this book easy to read, easy to learn and a joy to have in your library.Discover new things about your self through the Quindicile. It reveals why you sometime act the way you do ....Why some things you are motivated in and others you arent. It gives you enlightment about yourself and the wonderful thing about it is you can learn to use the motivation in a positive manner .Great book !

A Watershed Work
This book on the seldom addressed quindecile aspect clearly explains the psychological implications inherent in quindeciles. Many chart examples of well-known figures are used, making this book accessible to astrologers of all levels of experience. Knowing about quindeciles illuminates often overlooked dimensions of the birthchart. Highly recommended!

At last!
Ms. Reeves has done us all a service with her book on Quindeciles. Noel Tyl read my chart for me in 1997, & mentioned
2 of them in my chart, & the info he gave me concerning them was
deeply personal & ultimately helpful in a "put the past to rest" kind of way. They're kind of an itch-you-cannot-scratch, but you can use them if you understand them better, and so I recommend this book to one and all!

Counseling Straight Up, with Twist of Astrology
As a reader, I often find that I am not so much using my knowledge of astrology and tarot in the reading, as just counseling people. I don't think I would be exxagerating to state that well over 75% of the people I read for just want to unload and get some type of counseling. I found this book to be helpful in gaining more skills and knowledge in these areas. Granted, it didn't seem to teach me anything new in astrology, but I do feel I gained a wealth 0f knowledge when I look at how it has helped me look for key signs and know how to react in certain situations during readings.

A helpful guide for serious astrology
I read this book as part of Noel's correspondence course. At the beginning it scared me the size of the book, but after I started reading my fear was replaced for a need to continue reading.
Noel's course and books definitely helped me to organize my analysis of a chart. The many examples and cases in this book are very helpful on how to approach and start a chart interpretation. Noel's background in psychology, social work and philosophy adds an important ingredient to the book. Highly recommended!

A Very Useful Tome
I cut my astrological teeth on Tyl's work. He tends to be somewhat psychobabble jargony, and as a result often lapses into abstraction, but his technique of homing in on a chart's key points--the points of developmental tension--is remarkably accurate and useful. This book is huge, with gobs of information and examples. The prose is often clunky, unwieldy, but the information is great.

He addresses a wide variety of topics in this book, including career profiling, sexuality, health, and prediction.

The New Way to Learn Astrology: Presenting the Noel Tyl Method
Published in Paperback by Llewellyn Publications (1999)
Author: Basil Fearrington

Don't miss this one!
I really like this book. It reads more like an interesting novel than a textbook, but don't let that fool you. The information is there; it just sneaks up on you so that you don't even know you are learning. But....by the end of the first chapter, the reader is given the opportunity to begin interpretation on a simple level. And what a boost that is to beginners (I've seen the excitement in the students I teach.)

The author has done an excellent job of organizing the material in a logical fashion for learning and still manages to appeal to the seasoned astrologer.

One of the best features of this book is that it teaches concepts that can be applied over and over in various combinations.

I highly recommend what is truly a "New Way to Learn Astrology."

Great Text!!
This book is a great learning text that helps to keep the student of beginning astrology focused. Each chapter ending with a summary and quiz is a wonderful help for reinforcement. And, while the basic signs, planets, aspects, and houses are covered, Fearrington also covers keys to interpretation that are not often seen in beginner texts, such as the Aries Point, configurations such as the Grand Trine and T-square, the quindecile, the meaning of Saturn Rx., and hemispheric emphasis. Chart examples of well-known figures are used in this very readable, easily understood text. It provides an excellent beginning place for anyone wanting to learn to be an effective astrologer who can cut to the chase quickly, as well as a refresher with some new perspective for those who already have some astrological experience. This is well worth the time!

Bravo!
Basil Fearrington's "New Way to Learn Astrology" is one of the few astrology books that can be read from cover to cover rather than being used just as a reference book. The author expertly guides the reader thoroughly through astrological symbolism and interpretation. Numerous examples make concepts easier to comprehend. Each chapter is followed by a summary and a quiz (with answers in the back) allowing the reader to build quickly on their acquired knowledge and rapidly gain confidence in their abilities.

This book solidly and clearly presents information useful to beginners as well as seasoned astrological students -- and is a wonderful review for practicing professionals. Rather than being just another book with a "cookbook approach" where the reader looks up a planet in a specific sign or house, this text teaches the student how to understand concepts and make their own meaningful interpretations based on their acquired knowledge.

The organized, systematic approach concisely and efficiently ties together interconnected concepts into a practical, meaningful, and complete horoscope interpretation.

I am a full-time astrologer and have selected this book as the text for the classes I teach. The information allows students to quickly tie together their knowledge and efficiently approach interpretation.

This book packs quite a punch! Clarity and content make this the first book I recommend to people seeking to begin or enhance their astrological knowledge.

Great For Students learning Astrology
This books is great If you are learning astrology or studying to be an astrologer. This book is not for novices or beginners, it is more for intermidiates or Advance students. It examines many different charts of Famous and non- famous people and about there sexuality according to their natal chart.

Fascinating Anatomy of Every Imaginable Sexual Issue.
Yes, this book will be boring if your IQ is less than average, or you're seeking so called "Sun-sign" column stuff, which is usually written for money-making, such as Linda Goodman. But if you're a serious student of astrology who wishes to master technical knowledge of this obscure science, then this is your another must-have book.

Extraordinary book-and not BORRRRRRRRRRRING
Since I"m a student of Noel Tyl's and know Glenn Perry and his incredible work, who was a contributing writer in this book, I wish to contradict the last person's comments on this book. This book is for astrologers, plain and simple. Its in depth and powerful - especially Glenn's chapter. Yes, you do need a good working knowledge of astrology, especially psychological astrology. This book changed my live personally, and professionally - for those who want to broaden their knowledge of astrology, this book will really help.
