A real maverick's eye view of the movie business
Mr. Samuel Z. Arkoff is indeed a ground-breaking movie producer, and this is his story. It's loaded with insights about a Hollywood we shall never see again. His company, American International Pictures, allowed directors like Scorsese, Demme, Stone, and countless others to cut their teeth, and gave the then-untapped teenage market "a lot of enjoyable Saturday nights."

Above all, the book is great fun. Mr. Arkoff is a master storyteller, and is as amazed at his own success as anyone else. I couldn't recommend the book any higher. By the way, the movie mentioned in the title is MUSCLE (not "music") BEACH PARTY.

Best I know of guide ... coated in "So. California" Glitz
This is really a very book that overcomes an all too common presentation flaw:

Why is it good: The Mental Edge provides the clearest and most comprehensive program for developing metal training routines that can/will improve performance. And if you are good at some endeavor - you have already learned the base skills needed -- from there on it is mental. Again, of all the books (too many) on trying to understand and develop procedures .. this is the best

The all too common flaw: The constant digressions regarding annecdotes and exhortations of "you can if you only believe." The content is great but in many cases the presentation would embarrass Shirly McLain.

Nonetheless, I would encourage anyone with a sports objective to read (grit their way through). The specific recomendations are again the best compilation and application of mental training I know of

INTERESTING!
I wonder if the two negative reviews were written by the same person who might just be a writer of one of the lesser, competing books? .....Hmmmmm!

Anyways, I found this book that someone had left behind on an airplane in the pocket. I was with my team returning from a tournament. It's too bad that we didn't have this book PRIOR to the tourney! I'm certain that we'd have had a different reult. At any rate, I'm looking forward to the following season -- so is my team....I bought them each a book!

Mr. Baum, if you ever read this, thank you very much. I can already see the renewed enthusiasm from my team. I think you've made a world of difference in not just the sporting life, but also the everyday lives of many you may never have the chance to meet.

...and for the person who left this behind, thank you very much. I'm sure you did so by accident, and if you contact me at my above email address, I'd be happy to return a NEW book to you. I may even buy you the audio tapes. :O]

Go Titans!

TENNIS ANYONE?
As a lifetime Tennis player I've tried it all.Inner Tennis, Tennis Zone, Zen, special rackets and coaches. Nothing has helped me more than The Mental Edge. Its esy to follow and the results last. Its not a rah rah get emotional type of book. Its a book of mental training exercises so you can master the skills and have lasting improvement. The real life examples are inspiring and fun. My game is better than ever and I enjoy every moment.THANK YOU!!!

METABOLIZE CHANGED MY LIFE !
I am so thankful for Ken Baum and his book Metabolize. The whole concept of Metabolic individuality is logical and realistic. My past failures at dieting are well docomented in my mind, Nutri-System, Jenni Craig, Protein Power, The Zone, Volumetrics, and out of desperation I even tried Richard Simmons and failed. Metabolize wipes the slate clean and shows you how to change your thinking about your past and create a new weight loss strategy for the future. Ken has wonderful techniques to integrate powerful thought and body changing action. This is so much more than a diet book. Metabolize teaches you how to eat, think, move, breath and supplement for healthy, permanent weight loss. My life has changed and so has my body. I will forever be different and no longer have the cravings for the junk that was polluting my body and making me fat and lazy.

Works Down under
I read Mr.Baums book The Mental Edge and it was so good I decided to read every book by him. Metabolize is excellent! I was never really overweight until I reached 32. Then I put on about 15 extra pounds. I followed the tips in the book and after 2 months the 15 pounds are gone! Motivation tips are right on. Diet is very healthy for the long term and has plenty of choices. I will continue to read every book by Ken Baum.

METABOLIZE MAKES SENSE !
I've been researching metabolic individuality for 12 years. This is the most user friendly book on metabolism in the world. The research is solid and the facts are so clearly defined it makes a great argument for different diets for different people. As director of a corporate wellness program I'm using Metabolize as our main source of nutritional information. This is much more than a diet book. Metabolizet is a complete wellness book.

Good advice but rather unappealing menus
Although this book offers sound and practical advice from physicians, nutritionists, and researchers, I was disappointed with its 30-day menu plan because the recommended meals, their nutritional value notwithstanding, are for the most part rather unappealing when compared to equally healthful but better-tasting choices available elsewhere. When I plan my own weekly menus, health is of course a major consideration, but my first priority is always taste. Since I am unwilling to renounce the joys of eating well, I want dishes that satisfy my love of flavorful, exciting food. Therefore, while I find this book very useful for its nutritional guidelines, when it comes to menu choices I turn to cookbooks that contain recipes for dishes that are not only healthful but also taste great. Fortunately there are a number of such books available, two prime examples being "Recipes and Remembrances from an Eastern Mediterranean Kitchen" and "The Book of Yogurt," both by Sonia Uvezian. Interestingly, I discovered this author in an issue of Prevention Magazine dating from the late 1970s, which featured recipes from her now-classic "Cooking from the Caucasus," a work that was recommended by physicians from prestigious medical institutions. Her superb yogurt book taught me how to cut fat by substituting yogurt for cream cheese, sour cream, whipped cream, and even mayonnaise, thus allowing me to put otherwise rich dishes from appetizers to desserts back into my life, with the added benefits of better nutrition and, almost always, superior flavor.

Didn't work for me
I purchased this book in hopes it would help me to eliminate my fear of blushing - which I only have a problem with at work - not socially at all.

I was hopeful because I have read many books and tried almost all suggestions. I felt like a complete fool sitting in my room tapping on my body in various spots while at the same time humming tunes and counting aloud from 1 to 5. Well it sure doesn't cure blushing but it did give me a laugh of how silly I must have looked and how gulible I feel now for purchasing this book. I'm really glad that it worked for others - either my problem can't be helped with this method or this method just doesn't work on me. Good luck to others!!

State-of-the-Art TFT from its Founder
This book, for the first time, gives the reader the opportunity to read about state-of-the-art TFT, from its founder, Dr. Roger Callahan. I found the book to be very well written and an excellent introduction to Dr. Callahan's work. All of the TFT algorithms, complete with instructions are given in this book.

To comment on Mr. Kansky's review, the books he recommended and other similar ones were written by people who either didn't study with Dr. Callahan or who studied with him years ago, and are not up to date on the latest findings in TFT. For people who want state-of-the-art, top of the line TFT, my advice is to read Tapping the Healer Within and also another recent book of Dr. Callahan's, Stop the Nightmares of Trauma. My advice to people is don't miss out on the latest findings by reading books written by people who are not up to date with Dr. Callahan's very recent work.

The procedures in Tap the Healer within have a long track record of success with thousands of people. It is understandable if people are skeptical -- I certainly expect them to be as I was myself in the beginning -- but the good thing about this book is that it gives the reader all the instructions necessary to try the procedures and make a first-hand judgment of their effectiveness.

As a psychotherapist, I have now been practicing TFT for four years and even though I have trained in other innovative treatment approaches, I have not found anything that compares with the kind of results I am able to achieve with Callahan TFT, on a regular, very predictable basis.

By George! IT WORKS!!
Just read a few pages and tried a few exercises for OCD and depression. And, guess what, it works. That's all I can say, IT WORKS!!!!!

Lousy!
I bought this thinking it would give some insight to one of the greatest bands ever...I was sorely disappointed. I think other people here have adequately described what a terrible book it is but I wanted to add my opinion.
It is amazing how most of the stories revolve around John Bonham who, unfortunately, is not around to contradict these stories. There is no real insight to the band that most people did not know prior to Cole writing this book.
Equally amazing is how Cole begins to speak as a member of the band using the word "We" like he played an instrument or contributed something to the success of Led Zeppelin.
Do yourself a favor and use the money to buy another Zep' CD...it is money much better spent than on this garbage!

Stairway to Heaven...but only for Bonzo
Richard Cole was Led Zeppelin's tour manager during most of their tours. He has an inside view of band's life on the road and knows probably everything that happened during that time. Led Zeppelin lived really fast and it is almost a miracle that only Bonham died. I don't know if stories in this book are exaggerated but it is easy to believe that stories of quantities of alcohol and drugs used by band are true.

The problem with this book is that it is written by man who was with Led Zeppelin mostly during tours. There is not much about life between touring, during recording sessions etc. Also towards the end of the book the story concentrates more to author and his personal problems than to what happened in band.

Thing that really bothered me in this book were women and how they were treated. It is easy to understand that there were lots of girls who were willing to do anything for the band and the members of the circus that toured with them, but I don't find it very amusing to read how perverse people Richard and Co really were and what they did to underage girls. Also including frequent stories throughout the book about destroying hotel rooms have no point. Maybe meaning of those stories is to show how rowdy band Led Zeppelin really was.

Even though I have criticized some parts of this book I liked it more than I hated it. The text is easy to read and other reviewers were right about it being hard to put down once you've begun to read. Led Zeppelin and Richard Cole were not nice people to have around if you lived in the same hotel as they did but LZ was and is still one of the greatest rock groups ever (even with their faults and behaviour). One must remember that they hardly ever let their fans down during concerts. A thing that can't be said about bands today.

Entertaining, but...
I read this book in a day. It's an easy read, and very funny. But I take what I read with a grain of salt. I'm not sure how credible Richard Cole is, and I'm unsure of his motivation.

I would have enjoyed a deeper look into who the members of Zeppelin really were. But you never achieve that with this book. What you see, is what Richard was made privy to. And I don't believe it was much. That most of what you do see, is the drunken escapades, tells me a drunken escapade is what it took for the band to allow him into their circle. Drunkeness or a crisis.

I don't doubt Cole's affection for the band. This shows through in the writing. But I do doubt the overall accuracy of the picture.

Still, as someone who was born in 1971, this book really did help me to better understand a group I've long admired, albeit after the fact. But I'll keep reading, with hopes of seeing the entire picture.

where's the book
This book is about 70 pages of recruiting information and 125 pages of addresses and phone numbers of schools. Given the fact that 25 pages are made available with the "look inside" feature, you can read 1/3 of the book online and get the names, phone numbers, and addresses of schools using the web or at the library.

The book provided some decent information at best, but when I got to page 80? and realized the book was over, I didn't feel very good and I certainly didnt need 125+ pages of addresses of schools I have no need to call or no desire to call..

A thorough presentation of high school sports recruiting
"Everything you need to know about college sports recruiting" is a very thorough presentation of the college sports recruiting process. The chapters are ordered in a logical and easy-to-read format. The pages are filled with invaluable information to help the prospective recruit make sense in an often tumultuous process. However, this book is not just a descriptive analysis of the reruiting process. The author, Jim Walsh, shows the importance of planning the whole recruiting experience. The author challenges the reader to set goals, and to realistically evaluate these goals. Co-inciding with this, Walsh offers many insights into what standards coaches at various colleges use to determine a successful recruit. Another major appeal of the book is the emphasis Walsh places on academic performance relating to the recruiting process. The author shows that academic performance will likely be a determining factor in the quality of the school that is attained. In fact,Jim Walsh shows that strong academic performance will open many doors not otherwise possible with mediocre athletic performance. Emphatically, the author embraces the "student-athlete" philosophy. The "student-athlete" philosophy make this book an ideal purchase for both the prospective high school recruit and the parents of the prospect!Additionally, the book offers a number of insights for parents to be aware of during the sports recruiting process. Finally, the author does an excellent job in

matching a player's talent with a particular school program. He encourages readers not to overlook the Division two and three schools, offering a number of personal stories of players who went on to have successful professional careers. This is a comprehensive book that offers many insights for the prospective college sports recruit. It is highly recommended for the prospective high school recruit and to the parents of the recruit.
