Remarkably thoughtful, carefully researched
This remarkably thoughtful and carefully researched study reports on the changes in religious belief and practice undergone by Holocaust survivors as a result of their ordeal. Most valuable are the personal testimonies of the survivors.

A sensitive study
A sensitive study, carefully constructed and empirically based, that supplies substantial, balanced insight where before there were only opinions and surmise. The full range of the victims' religious feeling is revealed, often in their own agonized reflections. Everyone concerned about the contemporary religion, responses to catastrophe, and the state of Jewish belief will want to read this book.

Important
The originality of the theme, the accuracy and vastness of the research - over 700 questionnaires and 100 in-depth interviews and the eloquence of language - surely cast this as one of the important books to emerge from the evergrowing literature of the Holocaust.

excellent resource for collecting true vintage ornaments
I found this book most helpful in identifying true vintage ornaments as well as their value. It covers in great detail why specific materials were used for a given time including the color variations. It also contains stories and cuts from celebrations long ago which I found very informative. I came away with a great deal of knowledge and will carry this with me on all my hunts. Highly recommend!

Reader from NYC
this is a very pragmatic and readable book that guides the reader through the issues s/he will encounter throughout the process of divorce, from seeking out a suitable attorney, to how to get through the damn thing in a way that is fair to you but not vindictive. It shows how to protect yourself with out baracuda teeth and how in fact swimming with the sharks might do more harm that good to financially, emotionally, to your kids, and may just protract the process. I highly reccomend this if you want to know what will happen, what you need to do, while avioding the self-detonating swirl of vengance.

Refreshing views, but a bit overwelming by details
The book gives good insight in US economic and financial development during the 1990-ies. Brenner argues well for his criticism of the uniqueness of the so called New Economy, of which he must be regarded as a great disbeliever. It is also refreshing to read a well documented criticism of US monetary policy under Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan, whom Brenner sees as a player with heavy responsibility of the unprecedented inflation of US equity prices in the last half of the 1990-ies. Unfortunately Brenner's prose is rather dry and his text is accompanied by a high density of numbers. This documents his arguments well but demands great patience from the lay reader.
The book went to the press in mid 2001 which naturally leaves out the market turbulence July 2002. Nevertheless his analysis gives the patient reader a solid background for understanding the recent developments in US financial markets. And what may be in store...

Apocalpyse Now
Contrary to one reviewer, I found this book truly engrossing. Brenner powerfully summarizes how the rate of profit of world manufacturing fell (with its many implications). To rectify this problem, Greenspan made borrowing easier. As an aside, he notes how CEO's then used their corporations to borrow and buy the very stocks on which their options were based, thereby enriching themselves in a speculative frenzy. However, this is hardly the story: Brenner's analysis explains the crushing attacks on social spending as well as our current war drive--suggesting how this too will fail, leaving only the historic capitalist method for eliminating overcapacity, the elimination of enterprises by economic crisis.

Great book but a little out dated
I do not have this book personally, I borrowed one from a friend and would love to have one of my own but it really needs to be updated. 1993 is a long time ago in the antique world, I guess what I would really like to know, is a new one coming out soon

author does not know patterns
After looking over this book, I find that the author does not show a grasp of the patterns he is writing about. His pictures do not agree with the pattern he is writing about. See the picture for Jubilee. (it is not Jubilee) Should have rechecked before book was printed.
