Wonderful Story
This book is one of the best Biblical novels I've ever read. I've read it over and over and over, and never tire of it. I cannot recommend this book enough.
gripping
This book takes you into God's history and tries to fill in on Abraham's life. It gives you possible reasons for why he acted like he did and glimpses into what his life might have been like. I found this book very hard to put down and extremely easy to pick back up. Each time I have read it, I find new details in it that I passed over before. I would recommend this book to anyone.
My very favorite in the series. I want to be like him.
This book in wonderful. I couldn't put it down, I feel like I walked with Abraham on his journey of faith. Her ability to bring a character to life and fill in the blank spaces is truly a gift . I would love to read it again.....but I can't wait to get to the other books by Ellen.

Who is he?
Melchizedek is one of the most intriguing people in the Bible. I think because so little is said about him. Mrs. Traylor brings him out of the Bible and into your home. Even though this book can stand alone, I would recommend that you read it as a sequel to "Noah" (ISBN: 0970027419). One of the things that I admire about Mrs. Traylor is her research. And you can tell that she has done a lot of research on him from how well the story flows together. This book is also a great lead in to her book "Abraham" (ISBN: 0842359753). But be prepared, no matter if you read this book as a stand alone or with the others, to be entranced, entertained and to enjoy this book and to be saying, "HHMMMMM" a lot. I have read this book several times and have enjoyed it each and every time. Along with always finding new "stuff" in it. For anyone, Christian or not, I would recommend this book.
A great book!!
I have read most of the others in the series and this is one of my favorites. It fills in some of the gaps of the life of Melchizedek that are mentioned the her other book 'Jerusalem, City of God'. Starts from the time when he was born, as a grandson to Noah, and we trek through the journay of his founding of Jerusalem. Recommend it to all readers. Tremendous book!
Must read!
This book is superb! Ellen Gunderson Traylor is a very talented author who makes the story about Noah and his descendants so interesting! This was the first book I have read written by her and I found it impossible to put down.
I recommend this book to all Christians and I know I will read her other works too

Fiction? Maybe - Maybe not
This is an engaging story. It is faithful to the Word of God, always a good thing. She brings in history from the area and accounts that we have from outside of the Bible and keeps them in accord with the Bible. She is an author that digs into the past of the area and gives you a story that keeps you interested. Reading Mrs. Traylor's books are always enjoyable and this book is no exception to that. I had a very hard time putting the book down. If you want a Christian fiction that is faithful to the Bible and history and keeps your interest up, get this one. A good read.
Esther comes alive.
This series of books makes the characters of the bible come alive. They are fun to read, and put more of a compassion in your heart for the great courage of Queen Esther. This book is fiction but is based on the Word of God, which makes it a tremendous story.

An incredible historic drama unfolds before your eyes...
Admittedly, I had a hard time getting into this book at first. But having read other books by this author, I knew that this book would make the biblical account of The City of Peace come to life...and so it did! A MUST READ!
You will never look at Jerusalem the same again.
This series of books makes the characters of the bible come alive. They are intriguing to read, and this a fun way to learn about the history of God's city. This book is broken into several sub-stories, based on the time period. Fantastic Book!

Magnificient
Ellen Gunderson Traylor is fast becoming one of my favorite authors. She makes it very easy to visualize the story line. She takes the Bible and, with her style of writing, puts you right into the life of the character. I thoroughly enjoyed her novel about Joshua. You can easily picture his training from her descriptions. Not only does Joshua come to life in your home, but so do the other other characters, namely Moses. (I will definitely search to find her book on Moses.) If you would like to have a good book to relax with, get this one. I enjoy it every time I read it and am constantly getting more out of it each time. I have a hard time lending her books out, I enjoy them that much. I don't really want to take the chance on them not coming back to me. If you enjoy Christian fiction, get this book of hers, and any others that you can.
Joshua -- God's mighty warrior!
A great book that is the sequel to Moses. I would recommend reading Moses before this book, as that's when we first start on the Joshua journay. This is a exiciting book, that takes you through some of Joshua's greatest victories, and his struggles. These books are tremendous for bringing the bible characters to life.

Makes the Bible real!
Wonderful reading. You will never see this Bible Character the same way again. Inspiring!
My favorite in the series!!
I've read the series and this one is my favorite. Ellen G. Traylor takes you into the life of Ruth. It really shows you the power of God that can move, when a person is faithful to the Lord. This book starts with Ruth as a young girl, in a family that believes in sacrificing children to their God. God takes her out of her land with her Mother-in-Law Naomi, and raises her up to a mighty women of God and the eventual Grandmother of David.

A great book into the life of Joseph and his family.
This easy-reading Historical Fiction is great for all readers. It takes you into the life of Joseph, from the time he was a little boy, through the trials with his brothers and Pharaoh, to the time when God lifts him up as King. A great book, based on bibical truth.

Inspiring
I lost a lot of sleep with this book because I couldn't put it down. I was constantly looking at the clock saying, "Just a half hour more." Ellen Gunderson Traylor has a way of taking a person from the Bible and bring them into your home. I could see the scenes in my mind, that is how good the writing is. I was inspired by this book. She brought to me the story of Mark, cousin of one the beginning giants of the Church, and helped me to see that it could be my story. I went back to the Bible and read again the part in Acts about Mark leaving Paul & Barnabas, Paul & Barnabas going seperate ways because of it, and then, in his 2nd letter to Timothy, Paul asking for Mark to come to him because he is a comfort to Paul. If God can work in his life, Mrs. Traylor helped me to see that He could and wants to work in my life. Mark is a novel that kept me turning pages. After reading so many of her works, I have faith in her faithfulness to the Scriptures. She is also faithful to the cultures of the characters she writes about. Many times I have come across references in her books that have been verified by other resources. The same is true of Mark. Get this book and sit back and let her tell you an amazing story. I think that you will be inspired by it like I was.

Fascinating!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. When I read Christian fiction, I keep in mind what the Bible has said about the subject of the fiction I am reading. Ellen Gunderson Traylor keeps the Bible in mind when she writes her books. She brought Mary Magdalene into my reading room in a very real manner. It is not only enjoyable to read this book, but you come away from the book feeling that you not only know Mary Magdalene better, you can actually feel the thankfulness that she has for God's grace. Mrs. Traylor has taken one of the most talked about people in the Bible and brought her into your living room. I had to really ration the time that I spent reading this book because I did not want to put it down. I wanted to read it from cover to cover in one sitting. Too bad that I had work that I had to do because I would have not put this book down. If you enjoy Christian fiction, I would heartily recommend this book!

Excellent! I felt as though I was the 13th desciple.
I have read it three times. You get to walk with Jesus and with the desciples. She has a wonderful gift of filling in the rest of the "Painting" that the Bible doesnt have(i.e. the culture, the geography, the desciples daily lives,etc.). Mostly, you get to sit at the feet of Jesus and hear just what it might of been like at the actual events. The agape of Jesus permeates this work. Moved me very much and made me a better man of God. A must read and then pass it on book!
Well worth the read
From a christian perspective, the book follows the book of John exactly. Small mentions that most readers might miss - such as the fact that John was a disciple of John the Baptist - are picked up on. The author does embellish a lot, and while this breathes amazing life into the characters, it makes it difficult to keep a true perspective of what really happened and which part is imagination. All the same, this is an engrossing, difficult to put down book!
Feel the heart of the "disciple Jesus loved"...
I just recently made a decision to read and turn off the TV. The first book that God led me to was John Son of Thunder. I know it's a fiction book and that certain liberties are taken, but Ellen does an awesome job of sticking to the Bible. I really felt like John. I felt his love for his two mentors (John the Baptist and Jesus). I understood why he got the title "Son of Thunder". I felt his horror and confusion at the crucifixion, and his important part in the first church.
I was in tears the last few Chapters feeling for John and praying that I might know what it means to give as much of a sacrifice for Jesus.
