Suprisingly Readable... Fun, Too
Davis, in a stroke of genius, has written a book about, well, junk. We all have it, we are all loathe to part with it, we're forever buying more of it and no one ever seems to know what to do with it. Davis knows, though, and she graciously invites us into her home via Townsend's photographs to see exactly how lining our walls with junk can make our homes exquisite.

Davis has written a readable, highlightable little book in her unique and playful style and has consequently introduced us to the treasures that lie dusty in our own garages. Everyone who lives within 200 miles of a flea market must own this book!

Great fun! Really a neat little book with good ideas.
I really enjoyed reading the book. It is fun and has a lot of ideas for "junk" a holics.

Quite enjoyable! Lots of fun neat ideas.
The book was really a lot of fun! I enjoyed it.

A collection of short stories from a Master
Here are seven stories, mostly with an historical setting, such as The Hittite, set in ancient Egypt, The Youthfuls and Prisoner of War, set during WW2, and Covenant of Pain, in 17th century England. All the stories are written in classic Townsend style, and involve a wide variety of SM activity, each befitting its particular setting.

An S&M book from one of the best in the field
For anyone who is interested in either entering the aura of leathersex or who is all ready involved, Leatherman's Handbook II is a must read. Written by Larry Townsend who is well respected within the leather world and also a contributor to the male bondage magazine, Bound and Gagged, this book follows along with his style. This is an easy book to read and understand with chapters dealing with anything from bondage techniques, bondage material, s&m techniques, meeting a partner and much more. Each chapter generally has a story that is relevant to the chapter's subject matter.

All though the book is more gay oriented much that is said can be applied to any situation. The picking of a partner is very important and Townsend goes into detail on this issue. Townsend also touches upon the use of drugs as well as other issues.

I enjoyed reading the book and found that its material was well written and worthy as a strong reference manual for what it discusses.

This book is certainly worth the high rating of "10".

Excellent Gay Sci-Fi
Gay Science Fiction is rare; good Gay SciFi even more so. 2069 is a good example of excellent Gay SciFi. Not only is the sex hot, but the plot is well developed. I highly recomend it to anyone who likes the genre. Then again, I would recomend practically anything by Townsend

Some of his best work
Under the guise of relating "true" accounts, Townsend presents us with 16 pieces of SM fiction he published in a five year stretch of time for "Bound & Gagged" magazine. If you are familiar with Townsend's work and enjoy it, then this is a great collection to own. However, Townsend's writing is on the rougher side of SM so if non-consensuality, under-age, risking, or dirty sex is a turn off to you, steer clear. I really wish the collection had an index of the stories so you could find that "really cool piece" more easily.

Summary
Of Men, Ropes & Remembrance is a tantalizing collection of L. T. stories that he originally wrote for Bound & Gagged Magazine, and which were first published between 1993 and 1997. These short pieces are basically written in a lighter mode than many of L. T.'s other tales, mostly because they are presented as basically true accounts by the man telling the story. A few are actually based on fact, but the author now admits even these have been considerably en-hanced by his ever lusty imagination. We are thus treated to an action-packed collection of incredibly arousing short stories, plus a couple that were deemed a bit heavy for the B&G format and hence never previously published. The book starts with some comments by Bob Wingate, founder and publisher of Bound & Gagged, and concludes with some correspondence - to and from the author - concerning the proper definition of slave.

Fanciful Fiction
The title should suggest it all, book for sale discussing matters that would never be put into print by the people discussed -- i.e. hand-book. There were some interesting anecdotes and kinda interesting reading about BDSM, but should be considered complete fiction or fantasy novel.

If you can handle the lingo go for it
The Leatherman's Handbook is truely remarkable. This book being published back in the 70's, has some strange lingo. I found it to be a bit funny myself. This book uses stories to illustrate the chapter topic. For a portion of the chapter Larry talks about the topic and then goes into "story telling" mode. During the later he tells of expriences he has had in relation to the topic. Lots of good information here and gives a good look at "Old Guard" thought.

If it weren't for the lingo I would give it a 5 star rating.

the theory, philosophy, and real life practice of Gay BDSM
A good introduction to the gay male SM world of the early 1970s revised briefly for the 2000 edition. It gives a good basic overview of the history of "Old Guard" as well as insights into how different from and similar to gay SM is from het SM. There are some odd digressions and a bit too much focusing on why women and hets are in the book (why would they be? this is a book about gay male SM!). Still useful for everyone who does BDSM with a male though if you are too homophobic.

Not his best, but still good material to get off on
Larry Townsend is a common name in SM publishing and writing and this novel is a good example why. Not his best work, but still a well-developed and well-written account of a community gay leather men who run into space when threatened on their home worlds. There is a lot of sex but it is clear that Townsend has spent time thinking about how the technology and the society aboard ship would function. There are three main characters: the "Master", Ian and Kraag whose sexual and torturous exploits may be a bit too rough at times for some people. However the emotional connections are also explored so if you don't like it quite so rough, skip a few pages. The drawings by SEAN add a good deal to the text.

This is a great Gay leather book.
This is a Science Fiction. The story is about a Space ship captain set out with a gay crew in search of free love. They were hunted by their own government and pirates. Sometimes they win and sometimes they lose. They took captives and slaves, and sometimes, they became captives. Either way, the actions are good. It is one of Larry's best. If you are into medium to heavy Gay leather scene, this one is for you.

Not like his short fiction
This is one of two novels Townsend has which star his gay and kinky therapist, Bruce MacLeod. The story revolves around MacLeod, his lover, and his assistant as their daily lives are interrupted by several events: a nearby murder, a runaway gay teen, and a nosy reporter. The mysteries here are really all that great, go read a more mundane mystery if you want that. The sex too while it can be hot isn't numerous enough to really push this into the porn category. Instead this really is a novel that attempts to make us see that SM can be healthy or it can be unhealthy.

One for the little boy that lives down the lane.
Though I have trouble with heroes whose "eyes seem to twinkle in gold-flecked splendor," and authors who pen such, I confess I find Larry Townsend's Bruce MacLeod mysteries entertaining. Once you get past the steel collars, handcuffs, and other accoutrements of SM, these books are pretty much like any mystery. They just dress differently.

Psychiatrist and police consultant, Bruce MacLeod is called in when the police commissioner's nephew turns up hustling on the streets of L.A. But Bruce has his own problems. His lover and former patient, Frank, is the target of a sleazy tabloid reporter who plans to "out" him--and now the reporter turns up strangled. Could this have anything to do with the recent murder of a wealthy Beverly Hills couple found garroted in their home?

Townsend deftly manages a skein of subplots interwoven with gay themes including homophobia, love vs sex, and coming out.

There's plenty of action, suspense and mystery. And surprisingly, beneath all that black leather beats a romantic heart.

strange, sexy and exiting!
This is one of the weirdest gay erotic books I have ever read. For those who like S&M it's perfect. Probably one of the most original plots but somewhat reminds me of a movie called "johns".
