I was referred to this book in 6th grade. I am now 32 and it is still my favorite book of all time. I checked it out back then, and never returned it. It is a truly wonderful book about 'The Persons' who are actually aliens on our planet. 'The Creatures' are us. It's about forbidden love in a structured society, and the struggle this causes the main players. They are forced to leave their comfortable enclosed city, and live amongst the Creatures. It's a GREAT story.. My review doesn't do it justice. Kids or adults alike.

This is one of my favorite books of all time, young adult or not. I'm 28 and read this for the first time years ago, when I was in middle school. I don't know what it is about it -- the story? Maybe -- creatures from another world landing on our dying planet, a forbidden love between a human and one of the aliens that forces them to flee together. The writing is tight and fast paced, it keeps the reader engaged and the plot is full of twists, a great story altogether. If you're looking for a good book, give this one a try. I promise you won't be disappointed.

I am a big fan of Townsend's book "The Creatures," and while looking for that one, ended up buying this one by mistake. The opening paragraph is very good, but beyond that I just couldn't get into it. The writing is too stiff for me, too formal, and I find that unbelievable in a story that's narrated by a boy in high school. I finished the first chapter but never bothered to pick it back up to finish the rest.
