Belated, Yet Elated
Toby Tobias' adorable book takes the questioning element out of my daily clothing puzzle. This morning, Edith Sitwell told me to 'be myself'! The in-put from great minds of the past is a radiant rainbow of fun, humor, delight and wit. Ballerina@Large.Dash-Dot
Approbation
Tobi Tobias' new book, Obsessed by Dress, brings delight far beyond the sensual pleasure of holding a book that is exactly the right hand heft for the object itself. It corroborates ones joy of personal adornment through quotes from those who have the wit and style through the ages to say what you have been thinking and feeling all along about why have arrived a this particular persona. You become marvelous in your own eyes.
A Must Read
One doesn't have to be a clothing aficionado to have a rewarding time with Tobi Tobias's "Obsessed By Dress." A small-size book with a biggness of content, "Obsessed" is alive with famous-person clothing quotes, meticulously researched by Tobias, reflecting her passion for Dress and great writing. Dickens, Proust, Virgil, Keats, Dior, Dorothy Parker, and RuPaul are among those quoted.

Wonderful!
My super handed me WISHES FOR YOU as I was going to the subway.
While reading it on the subway, I did not start weeping until:
"I hope you will love one special person more than anyone or
anything in the whole world," and then I did not stop weeping
until long after I finished the book and got off the train at
Queensboro Plaza. The not-starting weeping until that late
in the book was a commendable sign of self-restraint, I think,
considering how moving, authentic, and wonderful WISHES FOR YOU is.

may they all come true
A lovely and inspiring children's book with gorgeous illustrations that all children will love. I bought two more for the children in my family. Highly recommended!
Add Wishes for You to your Wish List
Tobi Tobias has written a little gem, a picture book that is poetic but utterly straightforward. WISHES FOR YOU consists of a series of wishes for the future of a much loved young child.("I hope you will love to read. . . I hope you will love being alone sometimes.") Danish artist Henry Sorensen's accompanying illustrations feature lush colors and realistic renderings of approachable-looking children being wistful, playful or intent on a task. This book would make an excellent gift for a child under five.

More from the best
As if "The Night In Question" wasn't good enough, I went and bought "Back In The World." Just the first story alone could be printed ten times in between two covers and you'll read it different every time. There is this girl who likes to shop lift, works in a theatre, goes home to her little brother. It's us, beautifully written and immaculately realized. Tobias Wolff is gold and everything he touches turns just the same. Read this, then "The Night In Question" and then read "This Boy's Life." Read his made up words and then read his personally inspired words and found out just what he had to go through, how he triumphed over adversities to become the best short story writer out there today.
one good book
This book is great. What else would you expect from Mr. Wolff. I find his stories refreshingly unique. This man could write about getting your oil-changed and make it interesting. This is a must read for anyone interested in the works of the so-called "Dirty Realists." Also read Ford's Rock Springs and anything you can get a hold of by Raymond Carver. These men write about our lives, not the lives we all wish we had. Wolff is an in-your-face writer that punches home all his points with clear language and just hard writing. Also check out In The Garden of the North American Martyrs and The Night in Question--other collections of his.
Beautifully told.
I can't believe that I am the first person to review this book. Read this book!!! Beautiful stories, some of which brought tears to my eyes. Mr. Wolff is a great writer, who deserves the serious reader's attention.

Wonderful, delightful book for children and others who read
When Pumpkin looks up at me with his great, long-lashed eyes and says, "Again?" (Pumpkin is 14 months old), I am grateful for Tobias' wonderful book. This book stands up to repeated readings with grace and aplomb. (Good for adults as well as kids.) Such a dreamy, evocative, intelligent selection of quotations, placed so beautifully one can forget it's an alphabet book and just enjoy the ride.
A unique look at the alphabet
Every time I think I've seen everything that can be done with an alphabet book, something truly unique comes along. This little gem uses quotations from a wide range of people, celebrity and non-celebrity to 'illustrate' an alphabetical list that will appeal to children. From animal and book to yard and zoo, this is a new kind of alphabetical book, enhanced by illustrations that are 'out-of-this-world.'

Not just for Little ones
I work with 5th and 6th graders, who can not sit still for abook read their grade level--not even Harry Potter. Because this book introduces the concept of a fairly sophisticated vocabulary word, "serendipity", it was a hit with the 11 and 12 year olds. They were able to learn from the book's delightful examples what serendiptiy means. Because the text per page is short, they could listen, even those students whose attention spans are not long. A welcome book for most collections. Highly recommended.
Serendipity
Our family truly loved this book, and immediately recognised the delightful style of illustrator, Peter Reynolds! Reading this made me go back 40 years, and recall my own "serendipitiest" moment... that of riding my first two-wheeler, with my dad running along beside me, and holding the back of the bike for balance... sailing down the street, glancing back..... with the realization that my dad had let go WAY back at the beginning of the ride! This story will bring a serendipity moment to all who read it. We've all had them! Thanks Toby and Peter for reminding us!
wonderful!
This is an amazing book. It has quickly taken its place as one of my daughter's favorites (she particularly likes to say "serendipity"!). I would thoroughly recommend this book to any parent who is looking for that rare children's book that is as enjoyable to read aloud as it is for a child to hear.
