Great user-friendly reference for vet students
This book is great when you just need the down and dirty on a disease, and don't want to wade through a 50-page description in the heavy-duty references. It was also very useful during second-year, when you're just trying your hand at figuring out the diseases, and need a little confirmation of your diagnosis and treatment plans. Or, when you're totally clueless and need help get started in the right direction. Fair warning, faculty usually won't accept it as 'reference' especially if you're trying to argue a point, but during a recent open-book final, I brought mine in anyway and there was practically a mob of other students rushing over to check out one thing or another.

5 Minute Veterinary Consult: Canine and Feline (CD-ROM for W
Tilley's 5 -Minute Veterinary Consult book has been an extremely valuable asset to my library. When the CD-Rom came out, it was even more useful in that immediate and current information can be retrieved much faster than picking up a book. It is faster since topics related to a case can be searched for and reviewed with a touch of your mouse. This information can be quickly printed and given to clients to further understand their pets diagnosed condition. This printed information alone is priceless! A client that has something in hand and can follow and confirm their veterinarian's diagnosis and treatment, helps establish the trust a client needs to have in their pets doctor.

I reach for my 5- Minute Vet Consult CD-rom more than any other resource in my library. It is very accurate and has a surprising amount of detail to assist in the diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of each topic. The drug search is a very helpful formulary for those quick reference needs. The most recent CD has a good number of cytology and radiographic images attached to the topics. These can be enlarged to see more closely the great detail.

In my opinion the 5-Minute Veterinary Consult CD-Rom was one of the best reference investments for my practice. It is definitely the most utilized reference I have. Time is money and this has saved me many steps and thus time and money. Every practice needs this reference without doubt!

My vet suggested me getting this book (I have worked for him for 6 years) and I am glad I did! It has 4 different sections in it, "Presenting Problems and Physical Findings", "Diagnostic-Laboratory Tests", "Diagnostics-Electrocardiography", and "Diseases and Clinical Syndromes". Each section has detailed information on each finding, usually two pages per each problem, which covers the Basics (definition, signalment, causes and risk factors), Diagnosis, Treatment, Medications, Follow-up and a Miscellaneous. There is plenty of information in the Appendix section of the book as well. Including a Formulary, Conversion Tables and more! I would highly recommend it to vets, students and vet techs.

Simply put, this is my favorite book.
I can still remember the first time I read "Mission". I finished it in the early hours of the morning and stayed up the rest of the night thinking about it. While I've gone on to read everything else Patrick Tilley has written, this is the book I read over and over again. Uniquely, this is a book for anyone, whether they're religious or not.

I think it's a government conspiracy....
Every time I hunt down this book to buy it, as soon as the place calls me to discuss a price for it, suddenly it disappears again....

Ah, elusive Tilley. I read this book in the seventh grade, and was flabbergasted then.... I wish I could find it...

What happens when the son of G(g)od, who is very much a man, falls to earth in the company of a Jewish lawyer in New York City? Dark forces, and a varied host of strange characters (sounds like typical New York) descend upon the city, and mass pandemonium (as well as the requisite theological debate) ensue.

A truly imaginative, thought provoking, excellent read
I have now read this book 4 times and I always find something new, something I didn't get before each time I read it. The story is truly thought provoking and Patrick Tilley has done a wonderful job of research on the bible and associated stories to attain such a detailed understanding of the life and times of Jesus and his followers. The story is full of wry humour and is written in an easy style. The situations the star of the book, Leo, finds himself in are mind-boggling at times, you find yourself thinking "now what if that were me?" all to often! The ending is superb as is the entire book. Make every effort to lay your hands on a copy of this book, it is one of the best I have ever read. And just a quick note to the author, Patrick Tilley......if you are out there somewhere, please write some more, you are a great writer (I have read all of your books, Fadeout, Mission, The Amtrak wars etc.). I need more....

A moving and vivid tale
Patrick Tilley has created a post-apoclaypse America where the human race has moved underground. Quite a few people didn't and now they have seperated themselves into two seperate races and waged a bloody war with each other. The humans underground are very advanced but there are serious flaws in there society. The 'mutants' as the underground people call them rely on no technology but have magicians and live in brutal tribes where if someone trespasses or invades another tribes teritory they cut off their scalps. One man from underground who has joined the air-force crashes down and is rescued from his burning veichle by mutants. The first book is based mainly on him much to his surprise falling in love with a mutant and then trying to realise that they are still people even if they have adapted to the poisonous atmosphere. I was so caught up in this amazing story-line which is basically about racism I read this book for countless hours on end. The only problem which might not appeal to some readers about these books is the way Tilley describes the deaths of soldiers and tribesmen. Reading about someone spraying some sort of liqued napalm on to a group of people and then being told the way the flesh burned off is not my idea of fun. Altogether one of the most excellent science fiction books I have ever read but I only reccomend it to people who don't mind being shocked

5 star series, 1 star ending (No Spoilers)
Having just read all 6 books for the first time, you can imagine my howls of frustration on discovering that the series is left unfinished. If it had been wrapped up (at all) this would definitely have been a contender for a 5 star rating as the story is quite amazing and imaginative but leaving his fans hanging with no conclusion to the story is unforgivable. I can only hope that Mr. Tilley plans on a book 7.

The Best Series Yet
I was in the library one day at my school trying to find a science fiction book to read for one of my subjects. I love books but i hadn't read for a long time. Suddenly a teacher came to me and suggested the Amtrak Wars. I was very curious. So I started to read, and I couldn't stop! The book was so great with so many things happening and so many great characters I really couldn't stop. Every free moment I had I read the book. The story tells a war story from two different views. One is of the mutants who live on the surface of Earth and the other the Amtrak Federation, an advanced society of Humans living underground. The setting is 10 centuires in the future after a war that has wiped off life as we know it. The story is fantastic with excellent description. I couldn't believe how good and easy I could imagine the events using the words the writer choose. I recommend this book to anyone interested in a original intresting future world epic! I'm definatly going to read the rest of the series, and so should you!

I checked to see if someone had ripped out the last chapter
After reading all the 5 star reviews, and having loved the Amtrak Wars (vols 1-6), I was really looking forward to this book. I enjoyed Fade-Out but what happened at the end? I found the ending extremely unsatisfying, I even checked to see if someone had ripped out the last chapter of my book. I would have liked a little bit more explanation (or even any). Anyone can write an impossible situation, I expect a good author to solve it.

A stunning work of SF, stands up more than 20 years later!
I first read this book as a teenager in the 70's, and was stunned. An excellent balance between finely detailed science fiction (such as the kind Robert L Forward excels at), but with a human warmth and an odd spiritual twist that sneaks up on you. While I would have loved to have seen this become a trilogy, perhaps Tilley's greatest strength was in resisting the temptation to franchise this wonderful tale into tawdry little strip mall like installments, watering down the impact of the original. If someone ever figures out that this is a script that would write itself, it could still be made into a grand "alternate universe" saga...I would hate to see someone update it from it's 70's context. My hardcover copy is well worn from repeated re-reading...my only hope is that I could produce at least one novel this wonderful.

PROBABLY THE BEST SCI-FI BOOK WRITTEN !!
I'M NOT THE WORLDS BIGGEST LOVER OF SCI-FI BOOKS BUT THIS OLD CLASSIC WILL GRAB YOU FROM PAGE 1. WHY NO FOLLOW ON AND WHY NO FILM ?

Book 2 of 6 of a helluva Sci Fi Series
Continues the story of a post-nuke USA run by the First Family (underground in a clean, safe environ). The surface is dominated by a group collectively called the Mutes (for Mutants) and the Iron Lords (Japanese that occupy the eastern US). Steve Brickman, the hero starts out as a shining member of the USA's flying force (called a Cloud Warrior by the Mutes), but finds himself in a number of intrigues that run a total of 6 books. Great reading. duellist@interserv.co

Book 2 of the greatest series of books of all time.
I read many SF books, many of these involve a post-apocalyptic earth. None of these books has kept me as enthralled as the Amtrak Wars series has. Patrick Tilley gives such depth and detail to his characters and locations that you find yourself rooting for Steve Brickman and his mute friends as they face the might of the Federation. I would definitely recommend this and the other books but only if you have a lot of free time on your hands because I guarantee that you will not be able to put it down and, when you have finnished it, you will want to start all over again (I did). Five stars.

The best series I have read
This story had me up till all hours reading as I could not put it down. A lot the things that happen in the book could quite possibly happen one day. I have the first six books but would sell my computer to have the rest of them.

Useful for students and clinicians alike.
Dr. Tilley has again provided a helpful reference for Small Animal Cardiology that can also fit into a lab coat pocket. Not only is this a valuable source of information for students in clinics and for exam review, but also a quick reference for busy clinicians. Obviously EKG is only a part of a thorough cardiac evaluation, but it is often an important and underrated diagnostic tool. And for those of us who cannot always find a bic pen (vets will understand) when we need one, including a EKG ruler was a great touch! I strongly recommend this to any veterinarian interested in improving his/her EKG reading skills.
