The Adventures of Mabel
I remember reading this book over and over again as a child. I remember the tablature in the book, for the song that Mabel whistled to call the animals, and I remember playing the notes on the piano, so that I could memorize the tune in my head. I whistled that tune to every animal that I encountered for years, waiting for the magical response! I still remember the tune in my head today, and I have taught it to my daughter, hoping to find a copy of the book for her to read! I very nearly named my daughter after Mabel, because my memories of her are so vivid and wonderful!

Wonderful Book
I remember reading this book when I was nine. When I became a mother, this was THE book that stood out in my memory as a must have for my daughter. She is only a few months old, and already I am getting her a copy to hopefully pass down to her children some day. It is amazing how, decades later, I still remember the delight I got from reading these stories. I believe that any child that reads them can't help but end up make believing that they have these wonderful adventures, just like Mabel. These stories will delight a child's imagination and remain in their memory for years to come!

The Adventures of Mabel
This story was read to me in 2nd grade, and I thought it was the most beautiful and magical book I had ever read. It opens up a child's imagination, and makes you think you yourself are Mabel, having the wonderful adventures she does. It has been an EXTREMELY long time since I read this book, but I remember every detail vividly, as I will probably always do. I recommend this story to everyone, people of all ages. I will forever cherish the memories of this book in my heart.

WAY better than the Oxford Classical Dictionary
This was a key reference throughout my undergraduate days at Wesleyan University. The reference room had a first edition copy. If I'd had my own, I'd have probably spent FAR less time in the library. The OCD just didn't cut it. This was my indispensible companion studying Plato.

This volume is, in my opinion, the most comprehensive and accesible available in English. I can't remember a single time that this failed to illuminate the obscure asides and references in Plato, Aristotle, Thucydides, Herodotus, and the Tragedians. So, as far as the Greeks are concerned, this is the one to have. I'll leave it to someone else focused on the Romans to offer that perspective.

A must have, for Antiquarians...
This is a massive text, contining the most comprehensive information on ancient peoples and how the lived, loved and worked. A must for the ancient history lover, Numismatist or collector of antiquities. For instance, what is a fibulae...you'll find out here not only what it is but how they were manufactured, used and distributed. What about a domis? It's in there too. Everything in alphabetical order. The only drawback is that the massive size of this volume restricts its portability. But, it's well worth this minor inconvenience for the content

amazing photography
I recently stumbled across this book by accident, and didn't realize until afterwards that it was put together by Harry Thurston--being Nova Scotian, I cannot help but be familiar with "Tidal Life".

"The World of the Hummingbird" is an enthralling book. The photographs are large and glossy, which is always a plus. They manage to capture some of the most amazing little creatures. Hummingbirds normally come and go so quickly that you can't get a good look, with wings that are just a blur. Well, that is what this book is for. From pictures of baby hummingbirds, to full grown hummingbirds in courtship rituals, these photos can be looked at over and over again. The text provides a wealth of information about hummingbirds, and clear maps show range for the various species of hummingbird.

All in all, a wonderful coffee table book, with entertaing text, and pictures you will never tire of looking at. This book is a must for bird lovers and natural history buffs.
