The main problem with this book is the writing. One would expect an author to at least be able to tell a story. I was well into the book and still could not determine what the story was about. The unnecessary superlatives and cliché metaphors were distracting, poorly phrased and almost always inappropriately used in what appeared to be arbitrary places. The lack of writing skill is always apparent in a story in which the reader cannot help but feel the writer is trying to impress him/her with their quaint and clever use of the language. Unfortunately, lack of skill with the language is painfully apparent in Coyote. If a reader cannot get past the author to the story the book is not worth reading. I cannot remember a time when I did not even give an author the opportunity to redeem him/herself by reading to the end of their book. The disastrous use of language and figures of speech in Coyote was so marked that I closed the book before I finished it.
