Too wordy
As an MBA student who had to take a strategic management class, I found this book too wordy and boring. The authors of this book tried to explain some simple concepts redundantly. In the next edition, the authors need to imorove their writing styles

Excellent reference
Great use of case study, factual detail and explaination is good. My enclosed software was fine, other students complained that it was "buggy"

Out of Date Simulation
In my humble opinion: Despite the claim about being #1 (actually, the Capstone game at ... is far more popular as well as more complete), this product is from the technological dark ages. From what I can see, it was designed as a DOS-based, off-line product, that has been shoehorned onto the Internet, and shows it. I believe the teacher training is minimal; the technical support is deficient; and the product itself lacks the sophistication one would expect from a university text.

A Very Useful Tool
I have used The Business Strategy Game (BSG) for almost ten years and have seen its technical aspects improve in very significant ways. As far as I am concerned, BSG is quite good technically. The main reason for using this game is to teach strategy, not computer gamesmanship. BSG serves that purpose very well. It is complex in terms of the number and types of decisions to be made, but has a simple product (athletic shoes) that students can relate to and understand. (I have evaluated Capstone and believe that it is unnecessarily complex for my needs.) I use BSG as a supplement to an undergraduate Strategic Management course, so I want something that teaches strategy and the implications of one's strategic decisions, without having too much complexity that can get in the way. BSG does that very well. I think it deserves its position as the #1 strategy computer simulation.

eh- it was required reading
Well, I had to buy this book because it was required for one of my management courses. However, since it was my one and only strategic management book, I don't have a frame of reference except with other course texts. As such, it seemingly did an adequete job in prodiving the necessary information. There were times when the professor did have to supplement the text with outside sources, but not too much. The text overall was a little dry, but not overly so- heh, not like my economics books =) (I was an economics undergrad major) If anything, I wish the book utilized more specific corporate examples in its attempt to explain concepts- And perhaps a larger review in strategic tools (such as 5 forces) would have been helpful.

Verbiage Verbiage Verbiage
I am taking a business management class that uses this book as its textbook. What a snoozer this book is. It is absolutely, undeniably, inexcusably, frustratingly TOO WORDY! It uses way, way, way too much text to explain concepts. These guys need to retake a class in business communication, since they seem to have forgotten one of the most important aspects of business communication: BE CONCISE AND TO THE POINT.

This book is as dry as the Sahara, and is more sleep-inducing than a big mug of Kava Kava cocktail.

Another typical poorly written over priced text-book
I found this book to be poorly written and edited. The text is dry, unclear and boring. Although some of the cases were good I felt that they lacked enough information to make a decent analysis. It would have been better if they had focused on quality rather then quantity.

Book is fine, but where's the software!!
I've been using the book for a couple of months now, don't be fooled by the information that says you can download the software from the web. It's not there! Only a teaser demo program. In fact, I can't seem to find it anywhere. Now I don't have the time or instructions to special order it.

Hey Thompson and Strickland, quit being so cheap and include the software with the book or put it on the web! The download method is not working and I find it quite frustrating. I would give the book more stars if the much hyped software was actually available.
