Almost as much fun to read as it is for the kids
I've read this one to a class of 2nd graders who were begging for more by the end. The only complaint I got was that I only read the dialogue with a Cajun accent instead of the entire book! I'm watching for more books by this author and plan to buy every one.

AWESOME
This book is one that you can read over and over again to the children. There's is even a song that goes with the book by Johnette Downing! The kid's in my class love this book and most of them own it by the end of the year.

An excellent story that's fun for both kids and parents.
My kids (8, 5, and 3) love this story, and it's a book that's fun for a parent to read, especially if you enjoy putting on just a bit of an accent when you read. The language in this story is wonderful, and the book comes complete with a one-page Cajun glossary and pronunciation guide, to help your kids learn just a little about Cajun culture.

Feliciana is a wonderful little girl, strong, spunky, and definitely more spice than sugar. She has a whole passel of brothers, who keep her on her toes.

The story, set in a Cajun bayou, is one that little boys and girls from everywhere will enjoy, since it involves a hungry alligator, who bites off more than he can chew when he goes after Feliciana Feydra LeRoux.

The drawings in this book are terrific. Colorful, funny, and whimsical -- they bring the story to life.

This is a great book that has the rare ability to both entertain and teach, and I highly recommend it.

An excellent taste of Cajun life
I really enjoyed Tynia Thomassie's "Cajun Through and Through," a children's book with illustrations by Andrew Glass. The book opens with "A Cajun Glossary and Pronunciation Guide" for those readers who may be encountering terms like "fais do-do" and "gris-gris" for the first time.

The book tells the story of Ti-Boy and Baptiste, two rural Cajun brothers who are being visited by Remington, their cousin from the "big city." At first, Remington has trouble fitting in with his country cousins. But ultimately, they find common ground and realize that Remington is, like the title indicates, as Cajun through and through as his cousins.

Thomassie evokes the vernacular speech of Cajun country throughout the book. Sample dialogue from the boys' mother: "Yo' cousin Remington's comin' from d'big city to visit fo' a spell." The book is very funny; especially hilarious is Remington's reaction to a crawfish meal. The artwork is fun and colorful; Glass does a particularly effective job of rendering the boys' facial expressions throughout the twists and turns of the story. Highly recommended.

A rollicking read for Cajuns and the rest of y'all
As a displaced Cajun in Ohio, it's important for me to pass the heritage along to my children. I have three boys and they loved Tynia Thomassie's previous tales of Feliciana Fedrya LaRoux - and not once did they complain they were "girl" books.

"Cajun Through and Through" features three male characters that illustrate the constant struggle within this culture of who is a "real" Cajun - and for the most part, Cajuns live in the city, in the country and some don't even live in Louisiana! Mais oui!

The market for Cajun-oriented children's books has just begun, but whether you want to enhance your own Cajun or Acadian heritage or you want to expose your children to a real American culture that suffered ethnic cleansing (no, that's not in this book - but you can learn if you want to go further), a proud and practical people - this is an awesome book.

Andrew Glass' illustrations are colorful and whimsical and enhance the story beautifully.

Tres bon!

Free-spirited romp through the swamp
Feliciana Feydra Leroux is a free-spirited, handful of trouble and sass. When her vinegary attitude gets her, and by implication one of her brothers, grounded while her family is out for a Saturday night of eating and dancing and music, trouble seems inevitable. Warned against a Cajun werewolf, known as D'Loup Garou, Feliciana huddles under her covers after hearing something strange outside the house.

But once Feliciana has convinced herself that the howling she heard was only her brother trying to get back at her, she fearlessly chases after whatever it is running through the swamp.

D'Loup Garou springs out, ready for a nice meal, but Feliciana has more than a few things to say until this seemingly mismatched pair learn that they are more alike than either suspected.

The illustrations are delightfully rendered, and the Cajun dialect is fun to tackle, even if you feel like your tongue has suddenly swollen as you try, perhaps in vain, to sound the part.

A strong heroine and a really fun read.
My three-year-old son and I have enjoyed reading this story aloud, with its lilting Cajun language (and instructions on how to imitate a Cajun accent!) He is now quoting lines like "Shoo! I don't need the heartburn, chere!" with gusto. The story, which revolves around Feliciana (a girl with gumption) being really bad one day, resolves nicely, with her taming the Loup Garou (a werewolf, very charming) and her own temper. A strong heroine and a fun read.

A truely enjoyable reading experience for kids and parents.
My kids (8, 5, and 3) were delighted to find another Feliciana Feydra Leroux story. Like the first Feliciana story, this story also features a great antagonist for Feliciana. This time Feliciana is up against a Cajun werewolf, and there are some terrific illustrations that really bring him to life. I like the fact that Feliciana is a little girl who takes charge during her adventures. My kids (1 boy and 2 girls) just like the adventures. We also like the relationship between Feliciana and her brother, which is certainly reminiscent of sibling relationships everywhere. This is a story that kids love and parents can really enjoy reading. The language is marvelous, the story is engrossing, and the surprise ending is bound to delight. It's another wonderful Feliciana Feydra Leroux story. We highly recommend it, and we're waiting for the next adventure.
