Excellent Coverage of Win2k Net Services
This book is fresh air to someone like myself who has read at least a dozen Windows 2000 books. I get the impression that a lot of the Windows 2000 books were written by people who write books and don't work with the technology. This book doesn't fall into that class. It was great to read this book, because it renewed my faith that a tech book could be written in a way that doesn't put me to sleep.

They cover Windows 2000 TCP/IP from top to bottom. WINS, DNS, DHCP, RRAS, IIS, routing and network devices. Its all there, and its filled with little known factoids that makes me want to keep reading and have another "aha!" experience.

This book also was the major reason I passed the Microsoft 216 exam so easily. Although I didn't buy it to pass the exam, they seem to cover all the material that the exam covered. A nice bonus. I wish they made the book longer, because I'm sure they could have said a lot more that I would like to read about.

This book isn't for beginners, but neither is Windows 2000. I think once the reader is ready to manage Windows 2000, they'll be ready to get the most out of this exceptional book.

Good to learn how to design Windows 2000 network solutions
This book is good. I am studying for the 70-216 and 70-221 Microsoft Exam to update my MCSE to Windows 2000 MCSE. There is no Microsoft Book now for these tests so I got this one. Not only did I really learn TCP/IP for the first time (I thought I understood TCP/IP and how it worked before), but I know now how so different Windows 2000 TCP/IP is from Windows NT TCP/IP. They are not the same! Only book I ever read that showed me how to design WINS and DNS solutions in real world. MSPRESS books did not show me that for Windows NT! This is a good book and I liked it a lot.

Amazing!
I took the Microsoft exam 70-216 for network infrastructure today and all I can say is AMAZING! How did the writers know what was on the exam? There is so much obscure stuff on the exam that no other book I read covered the questons on the exam. But this one did. So much of the test was troubleshooting the network, so I guess a TCP/IP troubleshooting book would be the right one. But the similarity of this book to the test is amazing.

This book was good to read too and I am using it at my job and fixing some of the problems we've had with WINS and VPN based on what I learned. Great book and best study guide for the test.

A Manager Must read - Read it or perish!
Built on Trust needs to be read by CEOs and managers of all types. After graduating with my MBA I worked for two different companies over a three year span and I found both organizations completely lacking basic managerial capabilities and functionality. Being a young, ambitious guy I knew I was "wet behind the ears" but my managers were deplorable at best. The result was a downward spiral in productivity and results at both companies.

The key principles of the book are closure, commitment, respect, responsibility, communication and speedy resolution. I won't go into depth about the principles but most people don't understand, including myself before I read this, how each contributes to an organization's overall success and "social capital."

What the authors are trying to do is get companies to apply their "Trust Model" and the result is, in their minds and mine, that an organization will end up with a competitive advantage over their competitor.

I found the book to be quite similar in many regards to Abraham Maslow's hierarchy of needs at times since one of the goals is to help employees in attaining "self actualization" where their aspirations and sense of contribution occur.

The models' goals, to list a few, include (1) increasing group intelligence through communication (2) increasing creativity (3) making people feel passionate about work (4) creating synergies and (5) getting everyone focused on a common goal.

SENIOR MANAGERS OR ASPIRING MANAGERS! BUY THIS BOOK! This book, along with Peter Drucker's The Essential Drucker, are where I would start to create a better managed, more efficient business.

It is my belief that just about everyone has a passionate desire to contribute. We have a hunger to be a part of something bigger than ourselves, especially when that something reflects and amplifies our inherent values. That is what this book is about. Creating the organization that everyone loves to work for and that the best talent flocks to. If anyone wants some other good business books just e-mail me.

Outstanding, practical advice
I've had the benefit and pleasure of being taught both individually and in team forum by Dave and Arky Ciancutti from the Learning Center in San Anselmo. Arky's book is a great compliment to the in-person sessions and an excellent standalone pice of work. Sound, practical advice on how to develop and sustain personal and business relationships. I won't go as far as to say this changed my life -- but that's not far from the truth. This is a very readable book, with checklists, advice, key points all presented very clearly. Read cover to cover or use as a reference when your technique needs brushing up. Arky clearly explains why things happen and why we do what we do. Armed with those data we're much better prepared to make a change for the better.

A Refreshing View
It's refreshing to see an alternative to all the books on Machiavellian politics, intrigue and all the derivatives. Here is an approach to leadership that will give an organization a competitive advantage AND provide a healthy culture and work environment. I hope this book is the opening to new ways of doing business.

A must have reference...
For the busy orthopaedic surgeon and resident, this text should be "required". Hoppenfeld accomplishes the unenviable task of providing a text with concise explanations of surgical exposure with excellent illustrations. Relevant anatomy is clearly conveyed to the surgeon performing the dissection. In addition, the text serves well as a five to ten minute refresher prior to the operation at hand.

An Orthopaedic Bible
A clear, concise and beautifully illustrated hardback book. I cannot see how this book can become outdated which is why I forked out the small fortune to buy it! No regrets though- this book really is worth every penny/cent

simply the best
those who are blest with a perfect recall of anatomy do not need this book but the rest will find its thorough yet simple guide to surgical approaches an invaluble aid to safe practice.

BRILLIANT BOOK; DO NOT LISTEN TO KIRKUS
I must agree with the other reader who insisted you ignore the Kirkus review. I found this book to be incredibly moving and fascinating in its exploration, not of various conspiracy theories (as the Kirkus reviewer wrongly says), but of the different ways the Kennedy assasination myth affects Americans, even those of us who were not alive when it happened.

Forget the stupid Kirkus review
As far as I'm concerned, who ever wrote the Kirkus review above is even more of a hack than the worst potboiler scribblers, of which Mr. Thomas is definitely not one. Come to think of it, who else but the lowliest hack would review for Kirkus? Forget the dumb, ad hominem Kirkus attack and read the book. It's well worth your time.

Birth Sounds, Tales from Labor and Delivery
Most birth tales are told by women who "strut their stories" upon the stages of motherhood, but Dr. M. (called in the book) tells it like it is...existential, tales of two cities. He is the Grand Inquistor of the OB cases, the feelings, the sounds, the smells, the sights of this wonderful experience called birthing babies. I laughed, I cried, I wondered in amazement at the behind the scenes of Labor rooms, the nurses, his medical school days, his training. I felt humger for more stories (there are 45), his tales, his thoughts. Birth Sounds is alive with the sound of music, with "Scooby-Doo" being the finale to a great concerto, life's beginnings and recapitualtions. I recommend Birth Sounds to women and men especially doctors. I wonder if Dr. M. ever found the Godiva chocolate, but don't eat the "Gummy Bears." Excellent, Poetic, Ironic, Parabolic. Like watching an entire season of ER. He definitely captured the sights and sounds of life's beginnings. Read "Faceless" first and "Scooby-Doo" last for they are bookends to the entire book.

Funny and touching real-life stories that warm your heart
This is the perfect book for anyone who has had a baby - or wants to. It is a terrific book filled with stories of real life - the laughter, the tears, the hopes, the shattered dreams. I could not put this book down - it made me laugh, cry, and think. It is a beautifully written book from the doctor's perspective, helping us to see what it is like on the other side of the delivery table. It shows us the frailty of human life - and the resilience. It is the perfect coffee table or baby shower book - there is truly something in this book for everyone. With wit and poetic prose, Dr. Moraczewski brings to life - quite literally - these stories from his career as an OB/GYN.

Too good to be true -- but it is true!
I ordered this book for three reasons: Since I taught a course in college-level nutrition, I am appalled at how terrible the diets of too many of us really are. Plus I am something of a fitness nut. Finally I am also a "foodie" who enjoys cooking and eating delicious "gourmet quality" meals that also incorporate first-rate nutrition.

This is the diet book that the USA has been waiting for but too few persons seem to know about it -- yet. It is scientifically accurate and the conclusions of the authors are sound. It is proof that eating for improved health and fitness need not be boring. Indeed, the day after I received the book, I prepared the mango/black bean salad to rave reviews and no leftovers.

The message is not new: We need to increase the fruits, veggies, and whole grain foods in our diet, and to decrease red meats, sodium, and sweets. Although the target audience is those with hypertension, nearly everyone can benefit from accepting the book's challenge to try the DASH diet for two weeks -- and for a lifetime. The fact that the authors go beyond the science and present imaginative, delicious recipes and menus is a definite strength of the book.

A salute to the authors for this timely book!

A scientifically proven method of reducing blood pressure
Dr. Thomas Moore's DASH Diet For Hypertension poses a drug-free, scientifically proven method of reducing blood pressure and is based on two large clinical trials documenting dietary approaches to controlling hypertension. A team of doctors explores how the DASH diet system works, from choices in fruits, vegetables and low-fat diary products to the right serving portion and the influence of exercise.

A MUST
This book will definately assist those of us who practice medicine in third world environments. Well laid out and laden with useful tips for coping with the conditions encountered in the field. Thank you!

If you do any work in the third world you need this book
This is more than a reference, it is a handbook and diagnostic guide good for the EMT to doctor. My only complaint is that it should have been a hard cover for the price.

Concise and Complete
All the information about the management of trauma from the pre-hospital phase through the resuscitative phases and on to the treatment phase. Easy to read with hundreds of illustrations. A must for residents and student doing emergency and trauma rotations.

Emergent Management of Trauma
This is a compact but detailed practical manual of trauma care. The text is clear and supplemented by high quality tables and illustrations, and is comprehensive. A particular strength is the discussion on advantages and disadvantages of various practical procedures, and I have found this book invaluable as a quick reference in the resuscitaion area. Highly recommended to all emergency medicine trainees.

Life's Beginnings

A must read for anyone considering having children.
I have had the opportunity to tread Life's Beginnings. This is a must read for anyone considering having children. The spiritual aspect of childbirth (previously unknown to me) is miraculously intriguing. Dr. Moraczewski did a wonderful job incorporating medical Knowledge with Biblical principles as well as personal experience in the delivery room. Unfortunately by todays standards spiritually has been lacking in pregnancy and childbirth. It was uplifting to learn what a wonderful act of God and Blessing to bring a new life into the world really is.

This is a biblical study of all aspects of life's beginnings
This is indeed a scholarly study in Biblical Obstetrics. Every aspect of life is covered from before you are born to development of the fetus aging and yes, death and eternity are discussed. The author discusses in 15 chapters many biblical principles related to the practice of obstetrics. His treatise on "Pregnancy Loss and Termination" rates an A+ because it displays compassion, and understanding toward this hotly debated issue of abortion. He does indeed answer the question, "When does life begin?" One can choose individual chapters to read. The author discusses many cases and miracles of God's intervention. I considered the chapters on "Children", "Before You were Born", and the 2 on "Second Birth" the best! "Life's Beginnings" begins and ends with God. Excellent! There is a bibliography at the end of the book.

Very poor
Author is an egomaniac typical of most orthopods. He uses outdated technology and advice given for foot deformities is definetly questionable. Better to read a book by a real foot specialist- Podiatrist.

Great read for the patient or the physician
This is a fantastic, easy-to-understand book for anyone who has foot or ankle problem and wants to learn more about their condition. I have various foot ailments, including on and off again plantar fascitis and club feet. This book, given to me by my physician, has greatly forwarded my understanding of both diseases. I highly recommend this book!

RE: Footworks II, The Patient's Guide to the Foot and Ankle

Footworks II is a welcome addition to my medical library. As a family practitioner for nearly 30 years, I regret not learning and applying the principles in Dr.'s O'Connor and Schaller's book earlier in my career. I highly recommend this wonderfully clear, practical work on the foot and ankle that is appropriate not only for patients and physicians, but also for parents, teachers, and athletes.
