very informative and uplifting
would highly recommend this book for all familie

An excellent resource on alternative health care.
This is an nice book for those who want to know more about alternative health care. I give the book to patients who are interested in reading about the various subjects covered.

A book for anyone who wants to live healthier and happier!
This book has been the backbone of inspiration for me and my family. I keep it by my bedside and read it constantly. I have numerous pages folded down of remedies and healthy living suggestions--suggestions that cater to both my physical well-being and my mental health.

The authors have done an incredible job detailing and researching all the alternatives to the typical drug-store remedies and present it in a very readable and consise manner.

I highly reccommend this book to anyone with a family who wants to explore alternative options to a healthy physical and spiritual life.

A touching memoir
Published on what would have been Dennis's sixtieth birthday, A Personal Memoir is not what one would expect in era of "kiss-and-tell" tomes from the Hollywod elite. There are no tired lists of professional accolades or conquered lovers famous and infamous, no gossipy prattle. In fact, the particulars of Dennis's chosen profession are rarely mentioned at all in this 77-page memoir, we are instead introduced to Sandy Dennis the person--a person whose life was filled with colors, unbridled compassion and many, many cats.

In a scrapbook of prose--written, it appears, in fits and spurts when the muse allowed it--Dennis "recalls emotions...images" from her first trek at three years to the local store for jawbreakers to morning walks in the woods ("I like this kind of grey suspended morning. It will be, I think, a soft washed-out day"). Snippets of memory come alive in Dennis's vivid words--sticky baby fingers clutching a shaggy dog, fragrant New England foliage, fading images of a father seldom seen due to work and war. This Sandy Dennis, not necessarily the Sandy Dennis we see flickering in a grainy black-and-white film, is the one we are meant to remember.

On screen, Sandy Dennis was powerful, and that power transfers beautifully to her own life. A Personal Memoir is uniquely poetic, and a very thoughtful read.

The best and most touching memoir I have ever read.
What a woman! Sandy Dennis has always been, in my mind, one of the most strikingly original and entertaining performers to ever grace the Hollywood screen. Watching her movies has given me a great deal of joy and happiness over the years, but until I read this book, I had no idea she had such an equally natural talent for writing. For those of you who buy this book expecting to read a conventional tell-all, you are in for a big surprise. Sandy's book, which she began to write not long after she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, tells of this remarkable woman's courageous battle with the fatal disease. It also tells of her strong, warm relationship with her many cats , the furry friends that seldom left her side during that very difficult time. This is a book like no other. Every page is filled with love and compassion, laughter and heartache. It is a stunningly original and unforgettable work, much like the woman who wrote it.

A POIGNANT INTRODUCTION TO A REMARKABLE WOMAN
Filling a scant 77 pages, these intimate recollections by Oscar-winning actress Sandy Dennis are the distilled essence of a life lived with humor, valor, and grace.

In a praiseworthy departure from the usual movie star memoir Ms. Dennis does not focus on her professional achievements, but rather on personal aspects of her childhood and offstage adult life.

Few who saw her as the frightened foil for Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton in the film "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf," would envision the gallant courage with which she faced the ovarian cancer that took her life in 1992.

Few who saw her confident Tony Award winning performance in "A Thousand Clowns" would recognize the vulnerable unpretentious woman who usually wore no make-up, "gave her hair passing attention at best," and happily shared her roof with over forty homeless cats.

The vicissitudes of housing two score tabbies and toms were viewed with robust good nature. "Last year the condenser in the refrigerator burned up," Ms. Dennis writes. "The repairman discovered abnormal amounts of cat hair which had collected and caught fire. Exclamations of horror and surprise seemed pointless. The man was standing in a kitchen filled with some thirty very interested cats and they weren't bald." This memoir, the personal thoughts of a very private person, were found after her death. Handwritten on sheets of yellow legal-size paper, they lined the bottom of a filing cabinet in her home office. Characteristically unassuming, she may not have considered herself a writer. She is a delightfully gifted one.

Ms. Dennis reminisces about a man she loved, her family, her friends, her animals, and her garden with a poet's tenderness. Her observations of our world spring from a generous soul.

Describing the potency of time, an intensity of light, "painted sticks of sunshine," as she is dying, she writes, "My soft orange glass-shaded lamp slips me into twilight and then darkness. How I love." She did, indeed.

As a dog Mom, I had to have this book!
A dear friend had let me borrow her copy. After reading it, I had to get a copy. This book will warm your heart and the images are just wonderful. It's great to know others feel the same way as I when it comes to their dogs. Dogs share such a wonderful unconditional love and these stories are just one example. Get it for the dog lover in your life.

Dogs and Their Women
A wonderful book! I bought this book when seeking solace following the death of my first dog companion. It gave me comfort and hope to see that there were many more special dogs out there, (and I have since adopeted another one!).

A celebration of a universal relationship.
This is a book that could be read all over the world, and be loved. (In fact, an international version would be a nice idea.) Any of us who have had or known a special dog find ourselves in this book. My dog Dilly writes her own page every day. You must read about these common and uncommon women and their extraordinary dogs!

If the scale were 1-10, this book would be a 20!
If you love cats, this is an absolute MUST read. It is a heartwarming book. Each two-page spread features a black and white photograph of cat along with the woman they've adopted, and a short text on some aspect of their relationship. In a matter of a few pages it will take you from laughter to tears and back again. There is also a book "Dogs and their women" which is equally excellent. I actually keep and extra copy of these two on hand as quick presents for animal lovers. They are that good.

The first book was better
While this is a wonderful collection, I prefer the authors' first book, "Dogs and Their Women," which I found to be more moving. Both are great gifts for the dog lover in your life!

Get this for the dog lover in your life..
I got the first book "Dogs and Their Women" and I was so glad to find another book had been made. The images and stories are really great. If you liked the first book, get this one too. I've got them both and I'm glad I did!

The right book for the adult wishing for a horse
This is the kind of book that makes you wish you could have someone else drop the kids off at soccer and ballet lessons so you had time to slip into your jeans and head out to the stable. Lots of photos and stories of girls and women alike who have accomplished that dream. By Claire

A sweet group of essays written by women about their horses
This is really a very sweet book. It would be a perfect gift for a young girl in her early teens that has been bitten by the horse bug. It has over 100 pages, with a large black and white photo on one side, and an essay on the other. Some of the essays are short, some are boring, and some make you wonder why you bought this book. But then you read the ones that bring tears to your eyes and you know why. This book shows us women and the horses they love, and in their own words they tell us a little about themselves and their horse. It's not a glorious coffee table book like GaWaNi Pony Boy's is, but it is a charming book to read and pass along to other women, or our daughters who share our love of horses.

Horses And Their Women
Scores of small essays about the special horse(s) in various women's lives. A big black and white photo on one page is complemented by the story right beside it. There are no color photos. Some of the "essays" are only two sentences long! Some of the stories are hilarious, some heartbreaking, some just silly or sappy. Still, there is a genuine love of horses here, and no male-bashing like the title might suggest. If you love horses, real horses, not just fictional or perfect horses, than display this book proudly on your shelf

Great look at modern Paper Art.
After looking through endless craft books on paper craft and not finding anything inspiring, this book appeared. It has great photograqphs and telling crtiques my the two editors and short blurbs from the artists regarding their works. It's stylish and modern and wonderfully artful. There are no how-to's in this book, it's simply a great collection of pieces from an overlooked art form.

A journal of pose progress and inspiration
I love the style of this book, i first discovered it at a local library! It gives you a pose, then a chart to log your degree of difficulty then inspiring words..thru out as various poses are introduced. There is a listing of various types of yoga at intro and then when a pose is shown, you have a description of benefits, basic position instructions and how to breath, on following page you chart your body awareness and date. You only compete with YOU. At the end of each chapter is a page called INSIGHT: coordinating your body and mind in harmony for exa: the key point is to move into and out of a pose, with your mind and body. Pause and take a short rest after practice...your body and mind will absorb the results of the stretch. There are a lot of awareness exercises. It is a great layman's or laywoman's way of explaining the basic concepts of yoga!
