a masterpiece for the beginner to the artisan
This book is a culinary tour de force that features a variety of tastes that will whet anyone's pallet! A must read as well as a must use. I highly recommend this book to anyone whose interest reach beyond the den of their house. Enjoy-I did!

Love this cookbook!
I really enjoyed this cookbook and all of its stories. I've tried a couple of the recipes (including the turkey for Thanksgiving) and they were as easy as promised. I'm glad I bought it and now I'm going to buy some for gifts.

Great cooking and a great "read!"
Great recipes and wonderful stories about Nick Grippo's experiences in Hollywood catering for celebrities. He answers the questions I'd ask, such as what did he make, who did he make it for, and what was the experience REALLY like. The book is fun to read and I received it as a gift recently. The photos of the food are just beautiful, the candid shots with the stars are fun and informal and there is not a stuffy tone to the book, which is why I like it. It was also quite candid and revealing -almost as if Nick is "Everyman" in an apron. The layout was most unusual. It's quite a beautiful and deliscious book and gave me a few insights into Hollywood, along with a lot of laughs and a few tears when i read it..

Dont Let The Bed Bugs Bite!!!
This is a book about a little girl named Susan.
When bed time approaches Susan starts to see some crazy critters such as an octopus with eight legs,a shark in the drain and a porcupine in her bed. Susan's dad tells her to go to bed and doesn't belive a word of it, but what he finds out in the end gives him a huge suprise!!!
To me this book means that a child is not always wrong. Some-
times the child is right.By using first point of view the author proves just that.I enjoyed this book very much and would reccomensd it to people of all ages!!

Snappy and entertaining
Taylor Mccafferty writes in a charming yet unpretentious style that is most refreshing and rare in the genre. Haskil Blevins (her Howdy-Dowdy look alike gum-shoe) will make anyone a good poolside companion. As with all her work, Taylor gives Bed Bugs just the right mix of drama and humor. Bet you can't read just one

Pet Peeves

Fun Mystery
Haskell Blevins is frustrated. He's trying to start a private eye business in his hometown of Pigeon Fork, Kentucky, but no one needs his services. So when a beautiful woman walks into his office asking him to investigate the death of her grandmother and her grandmother's pets, he jumps on the case. When he starts receiving threats, he knows he must be on the right track. But what is it? And why would someone kill the bird and cat after killing a nice woman with no enemies?

This book is a fun first novel. Haskell's sense of humor adds much to the story. The story develops well and reaches a good conclusion. I'm glad I tracked down a copy of this novel after reading the author's Tatum twins mysteries (starting with DOUBLE MURDER). I'm definitely looking forward to reading more in the series.

Homespun, witty, and completely unexpected.
I read this book in one day. I realize that I'm a fast reader, but I read this book in one sitting. It was that entertaining. I said entertaining, not brain food. It doesn;t reveal the meaning of life, or wax poet over amber waves of grain. Indeed, it is nothing more than a literary frolic. McCafferty uses her small town setting to paint a rather puzzling murder case. She manages to weave original characters into a genre that has seen almost every kind. No one can forget the freckled P.I. with the dog who is afraid of steps, or the nosy neighbors, or the sheriff. She makes the entire thing pretty darn funny, but without supsending belief for a moment. Throughout the book, the reader never knows quite what to expect, something will always change. This is one of the best mystery novels I've read in the past year. I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a good read.

Side Splitting
This woman writes the funniest books. I wonder where she gets her sense of humor! I had to read the book the second time to catch all the underlying subtleties and murmurings

Chicken murder mystery a winner.
This is another in her series of private eye Haskell Blevins books. Taylor does a nice job of describing life in a small southern town. The mysteries are usually good enough to keep you guessing. Plus, Haskell's dog is so weird, it's funny -- worth buying the book just to read about the poor psychotic pooch. The storyline is pretty convulted, but this is such a fun, fast read. I keep hoping there will be more Haskell novels. They are perfect for summer reading.

Addy Studies Freedom (American Girls Short Stories)

Amazon base price: $4.95

Great history, great lesson
This is a short story in the American Girls Short Stories series about Addy Walker, a ten-year-old African-American girl living in the America of 1865. After the joy of celebrating the end of the Civil War, Addy's world is thrown into confusion when she receives the news the President Abraham Lincoln was shot. All her hopes for a better future seem gone. However, just when things look their darkest, Addy finds reason to hope.

The final chapter is a historical look at Lincoln's death and its aftermath, and then a nice quiz on Mr. Lincoln. (My eleven-year-old daughter got 8 out of 8!) Once again, Connie Porter has produced a great Addy book, one that shows what life was really like, and teaches a lesson. We highly recommend this book!

This book captures the English countryside.
I went to England for the first time and loved the countryside! It is so vibrant. My own photographs have never turned out very well so I bought this book while I was there to capture the England that I fell in love with. It has a wide range of beautifully photographed cottages and gardens. I am online buying 2 more copies as gifts for friends.

Freckles the Rabbit (Baby Animals Growing Up)

Authors: Jane Burton and Kim Taylor
Amazon base price: $15.93

Great Color Photographs!
This book is illustrated with LOTS of beautiful photographs of two spotted rabbits named Freckles and Dotty. It begins with their mother building a nest, and soon we see the first picture of the two rabbits as new-borns. As the babies grow, the illustrations follow, and we see them at eight days, thirteen days, three weeks (getting very cute), five and six weeks, and three thru seven months, when the bunnies have grow to adults and Freckles has her first litter of baby rabbits. The text is simple, and gives lots of information on rabbits, while telling the story of these rabbits in particular. This is a very enjoyable book.

Grow frog, grow!
The see how they grow series is yet another quality series put out by Dorling Kindersley (aka DK). Purchase them all if you can! Inspite of what the Horn Book review says, I found the presentation to be attractive and appropriate for younger children. The last two pages are a pictorial summary of how the frog grew from egg to tadpole to one year-old frog.
