I wasn't impressed
Bowling Strikes was off to a great start. It jumped right into the mechanics of bowling in good detail. Suddenly, after 30 or 40 pages, it just died. It almost looked like the author became bored and just wanted to throw another hundred pages on to make the book longer. A good portion was spent displaying almost every possible spare. First of all, with the title being Bolwing Strikes, was was there more space dedicated to picking up spares? I would have rather the author diagnosed precisely what caused the spare and options to correct your throw rather then spending a page on how to pick up the 6-9-10! Even stranger, the author assumes you're advanced enough that you throw a hook, yet spends several pages on ettiquette, how to score, and injuries. The first 20 or 30 pages have some helpful tips, but you're better off spending the money on practice. Best suited for someone who just bought a fingertip ball and wants to learn how to hook.

Increasing power and scores.
Ive been bowling for 2 years now and messed about with bowling straight then spinning the ball but my averages were always around 140. Ive had this book for 2 weeks and I now have a comfortable style and bowl 160 average (top score 210). The author tells you how to apply spin to the ball via the "squeeze"...excellent book and judy is very pretty! Nice one amazon

Talking Bowling Tells All
This is a fun book! The insights into the lingo and personalities in the game of bowling shared here are priceless. Where else will you learn there are so many different words defining bowling balls? A pumpkin or DOA being balls that are ineffective when the get down to the pins.

So many of the great bowlers profiled by Taylor are colorful and already passing out of the knowledge of the young bowlers of today. As the bowlin host at BellaOnline.com, I'm accumulating a large library of bowling books and this is one of my favorites.

Review of Winning Bowling, by Earl Anthony
Earl Anthony's book, Winning Bowling, has several positivepoints. First, I found his concept of spare shooting in this bookvery helpful. Anthony outlines in shooting spares four basicpositions: Strike Position (which also corresponds to Crossover Line), Left Center, Far Left, and Far Right. Anthony essentially takes samples of each spare group and demonstrates what foot position and angle would maximize conversion. I have applied this to my technique, and I have been having greater spare conversion success. However, I found his discussion of shooting Strike Angles, and in particular the first Arrow Angle, somewhat unclear. This book is not one which will aid you in adjusting to given lane conditions, but rather, how to execute each kind of strike shot. In the book, there is no discussion of oily or dry lane conditions. Also useful are the "super secrets", and his description of faults in the swing. I discovered from this book that one of the major faults in my own swing was side-wheeling, and this discovery helped me to swing the ball straighter, as well as save the skin on my thumb! For the advanced bowler, it may not have as much pertinent information, but for the beginning and intermediate bowler wanting to understand the swing a bit better, it is a good book to have on the shelf.

Basic Guides of Bowling
This book entirely is a book more for a beginner. Yes,learning progress starts from the basic however, if more writing for improving to higher level average bowlers will be a good credit. Not much pictures and illustrations.

What You Didn't Know You Didn't Know.
Earl Anthony has managed to pack so much information into this book it's really hard to know where to start this review.

Let's concentrate on something that had never occured to me to ask my coach, among many others covered in this book.

What is lift? Here was the answer in black and white. It was also easy to follow the concept that Earl was trying to get across. Additionally, the simple demonstration that Earl uses in the book really makes the concept even more lucid. I finally see good rotation on my ball, and has it ever made a difference in how well the ball hits the pocket!

This aspect of the game that is so important for anyone who is just learning to throw a hook. Why was it so well kept a secret? It wasn't but I didn't think to ask, duh!!!

This book belongs on any bowling fans library shelves.

This Secret is Out of the Bag
As the bowling host at BellaOnline.com, I read everything I can about the game. This book is as basic as they come. It includes a lot of photos that help give understanding, although they are a bit dated.

If you have never bowled before, are using a ball without a special composition, drilled normally, you can learn the basics from this little book. Dawson Taylor bowled 194 average om the 50's when that meant something. With today's lane and ball composition, many of the techniques he employs will suffice, but won't really put you in the game.
