This book, was written by the eminent French historian Rene Taton in 1957, and was translated into English by A.J. Pomerans in 1963 as History of Science: Ancient and Medieval Science. The book I read was the 1963 translation.

This book is divided into three parts: Ancient Science in the East, Science in the Greco-Roman World, and The Middle Ages. Within each section the author catalogues the sciences known to each culture, including not just the better-known milieus, but also Phoenicia, India, and Medieval Jewish sciences. Included are such things as analyses of calendars, units of measurement, mathematics, medical practices, chemistry, and much more.
