one of the best books I ever read as a kid
This is one of my absolute favorite books from when I was a little girl. My dad used to read it to us at night, and then I reread it when I got older. Very hard to find but worth every penny, this book is BEAUTIFUL and I hope it goes back into print someday.

My Favorite Book From My Childhood!
My mother would read this book to me and my sister before bed when we were about seven/eight yrs old. We both really loved this book and I think it helped our minds develop to a higher level of thinking and creativity. I read the book again in highschool and as an adult and got just as much enjoyment from it. I look forward to reading this book to my children. I would recomend this book for anyone :)

One of the best books I ever read as a child
Although I read many books when I was a kid, there were only about four or five that I would return to year after year- ones that gave me a thrill no matter how many times I entered their worlds. This is one of those books. It is the tale of two spoiled and thoroughly modern American children who accidentally follow their caretaker and gardener on a journey back in time to ancient Ireland. Upon arrival they meet a boy named Finn MacCool, who will go on to become one of the greatest figures in Irish mythology. Lonely from being raised in isolation, he decides to take them on his quest to become a man and claim the leadership of the Fianna, the legendary defenders of Ireland. Besides, he needs someone to compose an epic poem about his travels, and the two children have a knack for rhyme. Tannen makes the heroes and monsters of Irish lore utterly fascinating, yet accessible to children. I would spend hours and hours imagining myself questing around the Emerald Isle after reading this book. You and your children will be enchanted.

funny and sad
The characters in Loving Edith are quirky, funny and sad, but never pitiful or unsympathetic. This is quite an accomplishment considering the snooty world of literary magazines that Tannen is writing about. Has the author ever worked at a literary magazine? I wonder if this novel really IS based on some of the figures from the New Yorker. At any rate, a charming read, one that will stay with you, cliche and all.

a good story
_Loving Edith_ has a lot going for it: it's well written, the characters are fully developed, the plot interesting. Interesting enough, in fact, that some of it was copied by the TV show "Felicity" (adopted girl interns in her birth mom's firm, pre-med student not sure she wants to go on studying medicine saves someone's life in an emergency and decides medicine is indeed for her). I recommend the book to anyone with an interest in New York and its culture, especially the Upper East Side and Downtown gallery crowds.

a hilarious page turner
I highly recommend this book especially to anyone who enjoys satire about the literary world. The girl works at a New Yorker-ish place that is sent up exquisitely. Her adventures are funny and poignant. And the book makes you laugh and keep turning those pages...

The Twits
Imagine living in a dried out place in a house with no windows, just made out of steel blocks and a monkey cage. There are two characters, Mrs. Twit and Mr. Twit. They are ugly people. Mrs. Twit has a cane and she uses it to help herself walk. Mr. Twit gets food stuck in his beard.

Their goal is to get revenge on each other. Their problem is when they pull pranks it is mean they do bad things. Some of their pranks are funny.

I love when Mrs. Twit makes Mr. Twit's spaghetti out of worms. Ronald Dahl is like Jon Peterson when they write stories.

I recommend ages 7-80 to read this book. I hope you like it!

Roald Dahl has a zany sense of humor!
Our book review is about a book called "The Twits" by Roald Dahl. We think this book is appropriate for third and fourth graders. Some 2nd graders and also some 5th graders might enjoy it. We would say "The Twits" is a comedy, because it has really funny words like 'gnash', 'gnozzle', 'batty', 'nutty', 'screwy' and 'wacky'! In the story this old, greasy, grimy, grumpy couple play very nasty tricks on each other. Some of us think they're even evil! The tricks are hilarious, but no one ever gets hurt or killed. The story takes place in the Twit's windowless house that looks like a prison. It also takes place in Mrs. Twit's ugly garden. The garden is full of stinging nettles, thorns, and a big, huge, dead tree. The main characters are the Twits, a monkey family, and the Roly-Poly Bird. The main problem is the Twits are abusive to each other and everyone else in the book, but in a funny way. For example, four boys get glued to the dead tree by their pants after Mr. Twit puts glue on the tree to catch birds. We would recommend this book because Roald Dahl's sense of humor is so zany it made us want to read more of his stories.

Aaron Halls book review
What a lot of hairy-faced men there are nowdays. Mr.Twit is one of them. This book is pretty much about two people that play tricks on each other. It is so funny you`ll fall out of your seat. There is one problem, see the Twit's eat bird pie every Wednesday. Mr.Twit goes outdoors and puts the stickiest glue in the world on the big dead tree. When the birds land on the tree they stick there until Mr. Twit gets them to eat. The rolly-Polly bird and Mugglewump(a monkey)are smart. They see what Mr. Twit does so they tell the birds. The birds play a trick on Mr. Twit. What they do is they move to different places. The twits get so mad, they go out and buy a gun, but when the Twits are gone the birds get revenge. Here is a part that I know you will love. They get Mr. Twits glue and take everything from the floor and stick them on the ceiling. When the Twits get home, they are so confused. Mr. Twits tells Mrs Twit to stand on her head. It doesn't work, their heads shrink into their neck, their neck shrinks into their shoulders and so on. It is perfect for all ages. I gave it 5 stars.

A Fun Read
A trust fund doctoral student comes home to write a history of the town of Wallingford. His family was one of the three rich families that exploited the immigrant waves and left the town a slum.

He becomes involved with the the locals, poor hispanic people who practice Santa Ria, a single mother/fortune teller that may be his destiny, a woman left by her husband fifteen years earlier who is still waiting for him to come home and a bitter and lonely physicist who doesn't understand the meaning of love.

Add in a mystery: is the historian's family cursed? Can he break the curse through his relations with the town?

This is a fun and quick read that has enough quirk and character to be worth the time.
