An excellent read.
Most of us know how kids feel about the here and now, "I have to have it now". This book teaches them how they can have both. Great book for such a small price.

The final chapter is dedicated to San Francisco's Playland. Mr. Brouws takes a look back at the Playland of his childhood, echoing sentiments from any of us who have spent their afternoons strolling along those tawdry but always fascinating midways of yesterday. We see the peeling paint, the crooked games with cheap prizes, the worn out rides and run-down fun house. But we also realize why these places captivated us, the simple, carefree fun these places held for us for just a few days each summer. The few photos he did take (with his first camera) before the park disappeared combine with his childhood tales to add the perfect epilogue to this colorful story.

I'll quote from the conclusion to let you know where the author goes with his thesis and then you can decide if you would like to read his supporting chapters. I personally do not agree with Garagin's belief that Roman Catholicism would bring Russia its political and intellectual "salvation", but I am greatly drawn to his commitment to his ideals. Moreover, any book that even promotes the agenda of reunion, in spite of the motives, is worth noting. Enjoy!
"Personal contact with the West and the influence of such thinkers as Schelling, Chaadaevm, Ancillon, and Joufffrey led Gagarin to the conviction that Russia's social and political backwardness was directly attributable to its separation from Catholicism. By following the Byzantine Empire into schism from Rome, Russia had separated itself from the mainspring of Western social and intellectual progress; in turn, the subjugation of the Russian Church to Russian secular authority became inevitable. Garagin, therefore, reasoned that church union reattaching Russian to Catholicism would restore Russia to social and intellectual parity with the West. Seeking the best means of personally fostering this union, he joined the Society of Jesus. Gargin's choice was costly. He lost the right to visit Russian and his family; he lost his inheritance; and he suffered decades of calumny- all to save the homeland that rejected him."

The only reason I didn't give this book 5 stars is because the author seems to assume you completely understand everything the very first time he explains it to you. I've had to go back and re-read several sections so that I could understand something later in the book, but I suppose if he kept explaining concepts over and over again then the book would be twice as long. Great book if you're interested in the VRML world.

While the book's photos and colors may be a bit dated, the information and how-to's in this book are timeless.
Perfect for the woman who needs easy to understand instructions, step by step guidance, all with a delightfully
devilish sense of humour.
Well worth the read.

Detail is excellent and overall the book is accurate and consistent with other references on this subject with only minor exceptions when Baker refers mater-of-factly to events in Germany during WW2 of which he obviously has no first hand knowledge and is grossly misinformed.
The strongest part of the book is Section II - The Adversary wherein Baker goes into detail about those behind the "New World Order" and it's secret agenda.
The weakest part of the book is the Section IV - The Final Move - Cheque Mate wherein Bakers conclusions carry an overt religious message and can not be taken literally.

But what happened to the novelising of Part 3? It starts off well but most of it bears no resemblance to the film at all and seems just an underdeveloped mish-mash. Very disappointing.
The feeble novelising of Part 3 barely deserves one star, but the novels of the other two make this publication on not to miss. And there are some nice photos from the films.

While I definitely feet that there is a tremendous amount to be gained from reading these articles as far as their in-depth analysis of the interrelationship between Religion and Popular Culture in the United States, I also was intrigued by the fact that. The editors of the volume as well as the vast majority of their contributors felt compelled to support, or rather accepted as a foregone conclusion the concept that religious and popular cultures constitute two areas of thought and endeavor that are, more or less, mutually distinguishable. It seemed to me, even before reading the text, that religion is, primarily another manifestation of popular culture. One of its unique characteristics is the attempt of its supporters to construct an immutable facade which belies the extreme volatility and changeability of even its most cherished and central concepts and practices.
