A Wonderful Twist On An Old Favorite!
My daughter loves it and found it the next best thing to Barney. We just put her down for the night and she went to sleep willingly and easily after our 5th reading. I like reading it to her because of the colorful artwork and because it reminds me of our last trip to Hawaii

Its da bes'!
This is a very amusing book sent to us by friends in Hawaii. The new words to old favorites are easy to remember. It is a great way to introduce children to common Hawaiian words and elements of Hawaiian culture. The illustrations are well done and colorful. "Go Go Gecko" and "Three Big Pigs" are our favorites. Don't be surprised if your children want Tutus and slippers! I would definitely consider giving Hawaiian Style Mother Goose to friends, especially those with a Hawaiian connection.

Put down the albuterol and read!
I am a lifelong asthmatic, who suffers from numerous allergies, particularly a very, very virulent one to cat dandruff (I married the first woman I dated without cats!) I have spent the majority of my life wheezing and feeling like a freak for it. Worse yet, my parents encouraged me to be a distance runner--like they were (they met during the Boston marathon)--and I have forever been plagued by a feeling that asthma has left me inadequate. Often I must be hooked up to an atomizer, simply in order to perform daily tasks, like cooking, cleaning, or oral sex. The book covers none of these topics, but it avoids them GRACEFULLY, and details all sorts of other pertinent issues. I adore this book, and will recommend it to all of my asthmatic friends. BUT, I was dissapointed that Dr. Weiss never chose to discuss the possibility of medicinal marijuana for asthmatics, which I have been campaigning for throughout my life. True, I often pass out and must be rushed to the emergency room, but this is because street quality marijuana is often adulterated with various forms of cat dandruff. If Dr. Weiss ever chooses to update his book to include a chapter on medicinal marijuana use in the treatment of asthma, then I will be a true, lifelong fan.

Excellent introduction to GFP
This book is really interesting to read, it covers many types of applications of GFP, and is also packed with nice pictures that make it fun to read. Lots of helpful hints too. Highly recommended to anyone who is thinking of using GFP. This book would be useful both to those just starting to use GFP as well as experienced researchers looking to see what others have tried.

Cheap and Nifty referance or a skim of an introduction
I wouldn't use this book as my only book if I was going to study Crystals and earth consiousness, but this book from my quick read look to be a inexpensive and good small referance to use on most any common crystal. I am very very skeptical on a lot of the information because the author does not give any referances and makes claims that are "watery" with out much definition, and I do not have the resources at the present time to verify its information. This book has a decent blurb on for instance Amythist... it would talk about its use in history and folklore, and also a good deal of its metaphysical properties. It is alphabetical by name, but not all of the crystals are not the best organised because you have to go to Quartz to get to Amythyst, or Tigerseye because these are Quartz crystals... but at the same time he has numerous other crystals that he says is in the "quartz family" for whatever that means. It is limited on how many crystals it covers, and it has very limited amount of information on what exactly you do with the crystal to actually "use" or work with them.
But I give this four stars because in general it is a good little book and I do not regret buying it one bit.
If you are looking for a really good book on the subject I would HIGHLY sugest a book on crystals by Maya Heath though her books can be hard to find.
Blessed be.

Incredible resource
This is an incredible resource you can carry around in a pocket when visiting rock shops.

The ONLY crystal book I have read that is superior to this one is "Love Is In The Earth: A Kaleidoscope Of Crystals" by Melody

I did detect a few errors in this book.

1. Page 20: "Natural gemstones do not lose their power with age or use."

This is not so. I have seen Amethyst's, Labradorite, Smoky Quartz, Obsidian, Raindow Obsidian, Ametrine, etc; lose their coloration with use.

2. Page 42: the author states that Bloodstone is "Technicaly, it is a type of opaque Quartz"

Blood Stobe is not a quartz. It is a Heliotrope.

3. On page 125-126 the author discusses Tigers Eye, and Cat's Eye as if both stone are one and the same.

This is not so. It's true that both Tigers eye, and Cat's eye are asbestos fibers in silicon dioxide; but the appearance, and price varies greatly.

In Cat's eye the fibers are straight, and the stone is more eye like in appearance. This is a gem quality stone at gem quality prices!

In Tigers Eye: the fibers are crumpled or twisted. I have picked up nice specimens of Tiger's Eye in four different colors as cheaply as 75 cents each!

Implying that Cat's Eye and Tiger's Eye are the same stone is like saying that Peridot and Olivine are the same stone. Peridot is gem quality, and olivine is not. I bought a nice peice of Olivine for 50 cents.

Over all except for these few pointsl this book is an excelent resource.

Excellent Crystal info -- but no pictures
If you are already familiar with Crystals, but want more in-depth information on properties, legends, and histories, then this is a book for you! However, this book has no pictures, and only limited info. on using crystals.

If you are going to read 50 books on cruising...
...then make this one of them. I think I've read that many, and my attitude is that if I can get ONE good idea from a book, then it's money well spent. The one good idea I got: that the most important thing to care for on a boat is the relationship between those who sail her. I read this entire book in about three hours, and it was three enjoyable hours. On the other hand, it only scratches the surface when it comes to describing the basics of cruising, let alone doing it comprehensively as one might expect from the title. For those of you who see the blurb on the back from the editor of Latitudes & Attitudes, don't let that scare you off. These authors seem to be people who respect other cruisers and the traditions of the sea. There is no sense of the "biker" mentality. Those people contemplating cruising should read everything they can. Once you've finished Pardey, Roth, Marchaj, Cornell, Rousmaniere and Toss, pick this up as well.

This is the book I wish I'd read before I started cruising
Offers a very different, very fresh view of cruising, and covers subjects that most "how-to-cruise" books do not.

Amy & Kevin had the dream that many of us share: To escape the daily grind and go cruising. They did it in a way that the small boat sailor can really relate to. They didn't buy a 40ft floating palace, and circumnavigate. On a very limited budget, they refurbished a late 60s Cal 30, and headed for the Sea of Cortez, were they spent 16 months, on a budget of about $250 a month.

The book is divided into two parts. The first part is pretty brief, and describes their preparation and their first 101 days of cruising. It is significant because it details because it is about their difficult transformation from land dwellers to real cruisers. It offers a very honest portrayal of the emotional, physical and monetary realities of making such a drastic change in one's life. The second, much longer sections covers a number of subjects including setting reasonable expectations and attainable goals, finding and equipping your budget cruiser, dealing with on-board relationships, provisioning and cruising etiquette. The chapters on expectations, goals, relationships and etiquette are really refreshing, because they are generally not covered by other "how-to-cruise" books. There coverage of boat selection and preparation is a bit unusual, because they do not take the "equip the boat with every modern convenience" approach, but rather deal with things in terms of planning and implementing realistically for your individual needs.

This is the book I wish I had had before I started cruising. That Amy and Kevin choose the Sea of Cortez as their cruising grounds was certainly a plus for me, but most of their advice applies everywhere.

The book is only 191 pages, and was a very easy, quick read. I enjoyed the authors's style and attitude. I have added this book to my list of essential reading. Highly recommended.

Humorous, insightful, and not just for Sailors
This fast read is not solely about sailing, it is about life and how to live it to the fullest---without spending a lot of money.

Beginning their adventure aboard a small sailboat, the authors write with insight and sensitivity of what it takes to leave their safe life at home for the unknown. There are many humorous anecdotes, exposing the couple's own mistakes. Continuing their trip despite their setbacks, this book parallels life's own lessons. Initiative and persistance seem to be the underlying theme.

For the sailor there are bonuses by reading the book. Like practical ways to outfit your own vessel. And how to be better prepared for your own sailing adventure.

Couch potatoes beware! After reading CRUISING 101, you might just be motivated enough to seek your own life's ambitions.
