Actors Studio member recommends Hull book
This book lays out an entire course of training exercises in the most explicit, practical, down-to-earth manner I've ever encountered. It is of enormous value to actors, directors and especially to those who teach these disciplines. Susan Strasberg wrote in the foreword: "When I read Lorrie Hull's book, I thought, 'My God, she's done it! She's caught so much of the work.' She got the answers, wrote them down, used them in her own twelve years of teaching for my father and then translated it all into an understandable, explicit, practical book that offers valuable tools for any actor [beginner or professional], as well as for writers, directors, and teachers. I'm sure a lot of misconceptions about my father's work will be cleared up by this book. After reading "Strasberg's Method," I feel sure that my father, 'Pop,' wherever he is, would be enormously pleased."
strasberg's method
An extremely helpful book for actors, directors, and acting teachers. Hull gives in-depth descriptions of exercises used by Strasberg and does a great job of telling why the exercises work with examples. The book is broken up into sections. One concentrates on the actor, another concentrates on the director, another on the teacher. Has a great section with suggestions for scenes. Highly reccommended. The appendices have been extremely useful.
Excellent reference manual.
An in-depth chronicle of Strasberg's approach to the actor's art, detailing the full vocabulary of "method" acting in easy to understand language, this book is the "bible" of Strasberg's "method". No actor's library is complete without it.

Amazing, breathtaking, poetic, inspiring!
This is my absolute favorite book about the piano and playing. The writing is exquisite, and the images very powerful. This book will free to play music like you never have played before, and there is even a chapter for the adult beginner! I am sad to see that the book is out-of-print and hope that it will be brought back. Almost the entire book is quotable and I turn back to this book for not only inspiration behind my interpretation of music, but also for practical tips on sight reading and improvisation. Wonderful!

Enough said about the method.
This book in my view puts to rest the decades long debate about what " method acting " is. IN HIS OWN WORDS, Strasberg explains that these are not the be all and end all for acting, but exercises for unlocking the creative abilities of the INDIVIDUAL ACTOR ! Absorb what you need from it and put the rest on the shelf for later.

Worthy.
This is a pretty good overview of Stanislavski's "Method Acting" as used by Brando, Dean, and Pacino.
At times, the book drones on and on...tiring you out. So if you can rent it at the library, do it.
great reference work
Truly a must have reference for any aspiring actor. Not dry or boring like other reviewer stated. It is fast paced and offers practical info. A classic!

strasbeg's system
Probably the most famous acting teacher in modern times. I think this book is a necessary read for any actor, teacher, director. I've read and heard so much controversy over this man. It's fascinating to read about his journey. Some of the stereotypes of his method are crushed in this book. I have to respect these teachers who devoted their lives to finding some kind of answer for their students and actors everywhere. Strasberg, Adler, Meisner, Lewis, Hagen. Even if you don't agree with his ideas or techniques it is an extremely interesting read on the evolution of theater in this country.
WHAT A GREAT BOOK!
This book is absoulutly grreat! If you want to get into acting, you must read this book. I gauruntee it :)
