Beautiful, gorgeous artwork. Highly recommended

The illustrations are great and very likeable to children. I was so pleased to give this book to my nephew for both his entertainment and for educational purposes. I have several other books written by this author and have been pleased with all of them. This is not a typical coloring book. Great job to the author.

Storad and Atwood have done it again. I hope to take my Colorado kids to the desert this spring so that they can see firsthand all of the wonderful, magical things we have learned about insects and the desert. This book has engaged them and taught them in a way I rarely see in juvenile non-fiction.

I bought this book for each of my grandchildren, and they all adored it. Storad wrote a wonderful story for children of all ages that is enhanced by beautiful illustrations. What a joy to be able to find a book that is both entertaining and educational!

My children recite the catch phrase from this humorous, yet educational look at Javelinas for hours after we read the book. I truly admire Storad's ability to make kids laugh and teach them at the same time.

What a joy to read this book to my kids! It was not only fun to read this rhyming story, it was educational, too. The illustrations are fabulous. My two young boys asked lots of questions while we read, which just means they were really interested in this animal called a javelina--not a pig! After reading this book, we also obtained "Lizards for Lunch" by the same author and enjoyed it just as much. Now, as we travel across the desert periodically, my kids will be on the lookout for some of the animals they've seen in these books.

Told in rhythmic verse and containing wonderful water color illustrations of desert nature scenes, this book introduces many facts about roadrunners in a way that children will love and not soon forget. My 8-year old loves this book, and so do I!

My kids (3 and 5) love this book! They don't have many other books that make them laugh so consistently (and teach them wonderful things at the same time). Storad and Atwood have hit upon a great combination of entertainment and education where the desert is concerned!

Amazing facts about the little-known but heavily-filmed Saguaro Cactus make this book a powerhouse for young children. Parents enjoy reading to their children because they too learn as they read along. Storad writes in a nice, clear fashion and explains both the "insides" and the outsides of the plant. I thought I knew a lot about the natural history of the Sonoran Desert until I read this book. As a longtime former Arizona resident I spent many hundreds of hours hiking the Sonoran Desert backcountry, often with the author himself. There's not much text in this book, but Conrad has packed it with interesting facts. And Donna Atwood's illustrations are both technically accurate and artistically pleasing. I wish they made coloring books like this when I was a kid.

I love this book! The descriptions are really good, and the illustrations are incredible. My daughter is drawn to its pictures and we're able to use it like flashcards to identify animals here in the Southwest. To call it a coloring book is an injustice. Teachers should use this book in their classroom.

What a delightful find. My grandchild adores this book. The artwork is magnificent.The alphabet a hidden treasure for younger children and the information about the animal and plant life was way beyond what I had expected.I learned a lot about the Sonoran Desert. THIS IS NO ORDINARY COLORING BOOK.
