Read this, it's GREAT!
Malu's Wolf is an exiting story about a girl who with the help of a fellow companion (her wolf) fulfills a her wish of being a warrior. I recommend this book to people who like adventures, and love animals, because that's what this story is mostly about. This is one of my favorite books in the whole world. Read it to find out the rest!

This book deserves millions of stars not five!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Malu's Wolf is about a girl who is basically a tom boy because she wants to hunt with spears!! Unfortunately, she's a girl and is only allowed to kill birds and rodents. One day she finds a wolf, Kono. When Kono hurts someone, Malu is banished from the clan!!!! Read to find out about Malu's and Kono's adventure. Catherine Hinchliff

Great book for youngsters learning about the Stone Age.
I loved this tale of Malu and her cliff dwelling clan. It combines an accurate picture of the life of Cro Magnon man and the compelling story of a young girl growing up during this primitive time. I was especially impressed with Malu's desires to hunt and train her beloved wolf puppy, Kono. This story will bring the Stone Age to life. It is a good companion to Maroo of the Winter Caves by Turnbull and Wolf Woman by Sherryl Jordan.

One of the greatest poets in the country!
Ruth Stone again and again gets directly to the heart of the cosmos, splitting open the common and revealing the complex meanings and truths in our world. Is her title "Simplicity" tongue in cheek? The poems are often deceptivly simple. You read one easily and are without realizing it, suddenly knocked off your feet by its meaning. Stones poems are not light, they are not frothy. Her work is as heavy as her name yet as comfortable to take in as lemonade on her Virginia porch in childhood. This is a poet who will be remembered and read well into the future.

An excellent collection of work
I happen to be a student of Ruth Stone and it was interesting to finally read some of her work. Everyday she reads our work and tells us what she thinks and this was my opportunity to get the other perspective. I found it fascinating to be able to look into her life (I wanted to say "soul" but she hates that word). My favorites are "Plumbing" and "Nuns on the Bus". She is also a wonderful woman who is dear to my heart and has extremely influenced my poetry and life.

Fantastic resource
This is a very informative collection of articles covering many aspects of South Asian music. It includes articles about North and South Indian classical traditions, folk traditions, dance, and popular music. There are also many articles about the role of music in society, women in music in South Asia, and South Asian music worldwide. Each region of South Asia is also covered with individual chapters. Many of the musical concepts and structures are exemplified in the accompanying CD; the relevant CD tracks are clearly noted in the text.

Living in Dubai, I have found myself immersed in South Asian culture, and recently started studying carnatic music on the veena, simply because it was here. Lacking all knowledge of the contexts in which the veena is played, I found myself floundering in my studies. The first teachers I worked with here either haven't had enough English or enough music theory studies to explain the music. I searched on the Net for information about carnatic music, but found that most of the information was written by Indians for Indians, using terms that I don't understand or can't make sense of. What makes this book different is that it is written for Western audiences, and the Indian terms are fully explained. As a result, this book has been a tremendous resource for me in explaining the music theory that I was struggling with, as well as the context of the music in Indian society. I've never read an encyclopedia cover to cover before, but once I got started reading this one, I couldn't stop.

Winner of at least two national awards
From Inside BU: A few weeks after winning the National Book Award, poet Ruth Stone, Bartle emerita professor of English, has won the Academy of American Poets' Wallace Stevens Prize. Given annually, the $150,000 award, which was announced December 23, recognizes outstanding and proven mastery in the art of poetry. Stone, 87, said she was "stunned, humbled and made jubilant" by the recognition. In explaining why the committee chose Stone, former Vermont Poet Laureate Galway Kinnell, one of the prize's five judges, wrote: "Ruth Stone's poems startle us over and over with their shapeliness, their humor, their youthfulness, their wild aptness, their strangeness, their sudden familiarity, the authority of their insights, the moral gulps they prompt, their fierce exactness of language and memory. Her poems are experiences, not the record of experiences. They are events, interactions between the poet and the world. They happen - there on the page before us and within us - surprising and inevitable."

A great Book
I read the mystery of Pony Hollow when i was in grade 3. It was one of the first books that i'd ever read. This book will hold your attention till the very end. You'll fall in love with Panda (the horse) and all the history of mining ponies. Also the mystery of one horse named Oberon will make you wonder at first if he's still alive.
