Great book for African culture!
I just attended a talk by a Peace Corps volunteer who spoke about how children in Ghana were resourceful about creating toys to play with. This book illlustrates that point. I hope that my students from Africa will enjoy this book.

Elementary art teacher and students love this book.
Galimoto provides a unique opportunity for teachers to link reading, cultural understanding and visual art. Young students enjoy trying to discover the meaning of "galimoto" while they hear the story as it is read aloud. The illustrations help them to see the similarities in the everyday lives of children and people everywhere. All people make art! Young children can use pipe cleaners to make their own "galimotos" after they learn the meaning from the story. The story and illustrations held the interest of my students and encouraged them toward future learning through reading and making art.

A Book to Read Over and Over
This beautifully illustrated book was a favorite when my son was younger. Now we regularly check it out of the library for our three-year-old daughter. I will keep looking for a new edition because as a gentle story of a girl exploring a beach for the first time, I too am willing to read it again and again! It begins with the gift of a new bucket and swimsuit and progresses through driving to the shore in anticipation, and all the fun to be found on the beach itself. Because of it's quiet joyful mood, ending with a moonlit beach, it's ideal for bedtime. I hope to take it on my daughter's first trip to the ocean this summer.

I love C. Stock's work and this one is great!
As usual, Catherine Stock's lovely illustrations are matched only by her text. The story of a young girl's first trip to the seashore with her parents, Ms. Stock captures the fascination, discovery, joy, and beauty of the experience. An excellent bedtime or quiet time book, I would recommend it for children as young as 3 and as old as 93.

A delightful way to snack your way through the alphabet.
Alexander's Midnight Snack is a little delight of a book. Alexander, a cute little elephant, wakes up in the middle of the night and goes to the kitchen in search of a snack. He ends up eating his way through the entire alphabet! Wonderful illustrations accompany a cleverly written, easy to read text. Your children will especially like the x-ray of Alexander's tummy near the end, and the mess that is left in the kitchen for his Mom to find the next morning. This was my son's favorite book for almost two years, as he was learning his ABC's and then as he was learning to read. I wholeheartedly recommend it.

A wonderful multi generational story
Gus gets to spend wonderful days with his beloved grandpa. A very sweet series about a boy and his grandpa, and the time they spend together. More kids should have this experience with their own grandparents, which seems to be missing in this day and age. The story illustrates what fun it is to spend special time with older relatives.

Exactly right!
For the past two years the Montessori preschool where I am a volunteer has placed this book on display in October. What a wonderful book for 4-year-olds! The illustrations are a pleasure and add their own content to the story. It happens that the families are Afro-American, and an adult reader might conclude that Tommy is being raised by a single parent, but neither of these circumstances is central to the book, which is about adults looking after their children in matter-of-fact, but nurturing ways. You can't finish this without a smile, and you'll not object to reading it aloud as often as a young child would consider necessary.

Island Summer
Beautiful watercolor illustrations of island life. The story line is simple yet inviting by how it captures the warmth of summer filled with fun, new friends and beautiful island scenery. The story will engage readers in thoughts of not only the descriptions themselves, but the use of alliterations throughout the story are pleasing and altogether soothing to the ear.

It's history with the hair and hide left on it.
This book reads as easy as fiction. It's an excellent study for anyone who wants to add a mega dose of reality to what they didn't learn in school. And it adds keen perspective to today's and tomorrow's news stories about radicalism in the United States. It's a must for the serious reader's bookshelf.

Very beautiful book!
I am a great admirer of Catherine Stock's work. These angels are just wonderful and can make even the most "art-challenged" adult look good. It does take some serious investment of time to color and cut out all 12 angels, but you'll like the results. A little too advanced for my 3 year old, but I can see us decorating the angels together in a few years. Overall, well worth the price and effort.

A Christmas Angel Collection
Wonderful! We have had this book since the early '80s. My daugthers (then aged 5 and 8) colored these beautiful angels with water color pencils and added glitter. We hang them around the creche every year. Beautifully drawn. A wonderful project and a very special keepsake. I am ordering a book for each girl to save until they have thier own children. I hope it never goes out of print.

Great fun for all ages
My six year old and I did all the angels using either colored markers or inks and brushes. They are beautiful. I'm back to order more books because my daughter wants to do the angels I "got" to do.

This is a great project book if you have several ages to entertain. Even teenagers!
