From a Slugs perspective
A great book that takes a unique angle - what its like to be a slug. Himmelman and Stewart don't just tell us about slugs, they shows us their real-life danger and adventure story (you'd be surprised).

Really neat book, appeals to all. Can even convert those of us once grossed out by these slimy creatures.

I Never Thought I Could Care about a Slug
This book was great! I learned a lot about slugs, more than I thought I wanted to know. I never knew they were hermaphrodites. The author managed to write a suspensful book about a slug!! The kids in my class (and I) all said, "whew!" when the slug escaped danger! I also like Mr. Himmelman's dedications. We are learning how to write dedications in our class and I show these to my students. The illustrations are fantastic. They show point of view, detail and are accurate. The close up of a slug's face is a sight to behold. The books in this series are the best non-fiction books for young children I have ever seen...and teachers, too. Mr. Himmelman teaches respect for nature because he allows the reader to get caught up in the life of his characters...from now on, when I see them in my garden, I will think of them in a whole new way....This is a tribute to Mr. Himmelman!

What a Beautiful Book!
John Himmelman weaves his obvious love and knowledge of nature into something far more than just a beautifully illustrated, age appropriate story. His stories and paintings capture the essence of the creatures he portrays, and leaves the reader with intimate understanding and a desire to know more. This is a great book, as are all of Mr. Himmelman's works. I highly recommend this for your budding young naturalists. I commend Mr. Himmelman for setting such high standards in his craft! Keep'm coming.

Biography and Career Book All in One
Stewart says that Tim Berners-Lee invention had as big an impact on our society as Gutenberg's printing press did in the fifteenth century. Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web and all the components that make it work including: servers, browser, URL addressing, hypertext, HTML and HTTP. His early life, education, challenges and professional acheivements are all outlined. The end of the book explains how students today can become computer programmers. The simple text clearly explains complex concepts to beginners. Black and white photos enhance the text. something's missing
While it's imperative that we teach our children about other cultures this book does not offer enough details to do that. It glosses over what makes these Native-Americans different from other tribes in the desert of the Southern United States and how their culture developed. It is too simple and does not ask the reader to take part in the experience.
