The author details Republican presses from Massachusetts to Georgia and their modes of attack on such Federalist policies as the Jay Treaty, the assumption of state debts, the Alien and Sedition Acts and the quasi-war with France. The Republicans defended democracy and the French Revolution against the British influence and bias of the Federalists. A great book.
