Mrs. Wickersham's Library Class Review
Our third grade class likes all the poems because they are funny. We think this book is great. You might like to read the poem, "Be Glad Your Nose is on Your Face."

Still makes me Giggle
I read this book when it was first published and I was 10 years old. I remember being the first to check it out of our public library when it arrived, and I read and reread it. I still have several of the poems memorized, 'Homework' being my all-time favourite, and I hope I never grow old enough to stop laughing at these worderful, imaginative poems that have brought many smiles to my family.

All time favorite
This book and "The Giving Tree" have always been 2 of my favorite children's books. The thing that makes them great is that the stories teach you valuable lessons at a very young age, that you never forget. I read this book in elementary school, and now at the age of 25 still think of it when things get bad, cuz they could ALWAYS be worse!!! My mom and I still refer to this book to this day, and now I'm buying it for my 5 year old nephew! I just hope he appreciates it as much as I do!!!

Could Be Worse
As a child, this was one of my favorite books. As an adult, working in a daycare, I became frustrated with the books available to me and the lack of imagination I saw in many of the children. I found a copy of this book in the library and began reading it to the children daily. It was not only an instant hit but in no time I began to hear stories from them of wild dreams and exciting fanticies. They were just as inspired as I had been at their age. This is truly a timeless and imaginative story with the unique ability to teach both optimism and creativity.

This is a book I HIGHLY recommend
This book was read to me in High School by a classmate and I have never forgotten this book. I have searched every where for it, since that day it was read and I have finally found it! (5 years later!) This is a GREAT book!

hilarious!
My 6 year old daughter has taken this book out 3 times [so far] since discovering it in her school library. Not only has it encouraged her to read, she and her friend acted it out as a play, with props and all!
She thinks it is the most hilarious book she has ever read!

Giggles Galore :-))
We found this Gem at the library this week..and boy are we glad we did!! My 5 & 7 year old sons were in hysterics! Out of the 28 books we took out this week and the countless we've taken out this past year...this is the hands down winner!! My 5 year old starts giggling as soon as we open the book! Definitely a book that will be under the Christmas tree this year. Worth every penny!!

Second graders at Halley Elementary loved this book!
All of the second graders at William Halley Elementary in Fairfax Station, Virginia enjoyed this book when it was read aloud during a recent library visit. When asked to review the title for other children, their comments ranged from, "This is a really, really funny book!" to "I liked the rules for reading the best!" to "Tell the author to write another book like this one!" The seven and eight year old students loved being ordered to return to the front of the book whenever they laughed at the characters' antics; they appreciated being participants in the stories, not just readers. The students enthusiastically recommend this title, and give the book a Halley Hornet rating of 10 out of a possible 10.

The FUNNIEST Poems!
One of the funniest poems we read was "I'm Stuck Inside a Seashell"! ...And one of the poems is "It's Raining Pigs and Noodles", just like the title (and they don't even just talk about pigs and noodles - they talk about all sorts of other things!)

All the poems are so funny and I was able to read some of them myself! ...And I learned never to take a bath all day and all night (Ha! Ha!)! I can't wait to read his other books!

Mom's note: "This collection of poems was simply adorable. I enjoyed reading them with my child as much as she enjoyed hearing them. ...And the simplicity of the poems allowed her to read some of them to me as well. A highly recommended bit of silliness!"

Something for Everyone
Jack Prelutsky's It's Raining Pigs and Noodles is a wonderful, imaginative collection of poems the whole family will enjoy, that willmake you smile, giggle, laugh and sometimes roar. His witty, sillyand often irreverent verses are full of wordplay, puns, jokes, andeven fun with shapes. Where else can you find out about Grungy Grace"I hardly ever brush my teeth or wash my hands and face..."or Plooters "We are Plooters, we don't care, we make messeseverywhere..." or Titanic Timmy Tinkletunes "that when heplays the violin, he has to use a cello." James Stevenson'ssimple, humorous, yet expressive black and while illustrations, addjust the right touch and compliment each poem perfectly. This is abook younger children will want to hear again and again, older kidswill want to read over and over and adults will just plain enjoy. Sosit back, put your feet up and find out why "I'm Ironing myRhinoceros", what happens to "The Dancing Hippopotami"and where "There was Unabated Chaos". You can't go wrongwith this book!

laugh yourself silly
The creators of "The New Kid on the Block", and "A Pizza the Size of the Sun" are back and just a looney as ever. There are over 100 poems to make you giggle, guffaw, snort and chuckle.

Prelutsky's poems alternate between being witty, sweet, nonsensical and often totally shamless! And Stevenson's illustrations are a giggle unto themselves. You will find yourself reading and re-reading them to your kids -- and for yourself. Pick it and don't be ashamed to laugh yourself silly.

A really good book.
I read this book at school. I was impressed by the language. The day before I read this book I found out that the author wrote this book about his three sons.

My favorite book as a child
This was my favorite book when I was little. Now that I'm a father, I can't seem to find my copy (I managed to keep it for 20+ years, but I may have just had one move too many), so I was sad to see it was out of print.

Hopefully it will turn up, because this book is a real gem.

Don't Miss This One
I was given this book when I was a little girl and it instantly became one of my favorite books which I still keep in my library today. The book is wildly imaginative and teaches children that limits only exist in your own mind, certainly not in the minds of others. It's a shame that this book is no longer in print because it's truly timeless. If you see it anywhere grab a copy and then torture yourself by giving it away to a child that's dear to you.

Hubie's Back....
Timid little mouse, Hubie, would have probably been more receptive to the idea of going on a family vacation to exotic Barabooda Island had he not seen the scary movie, The Island Of No Return. And the fact that they were traveling there on an enormous dirigible, The Island Clipper, didn't help calm his fears. But when his worst fears are realized, and a storm sends poor Hubie overboard, he finds himself on an almost deserted island, and ready for the adventure of a lifetime..... James Stevenson has brought back one of his most endearing characters, and just like his previous Hubie stories, The Seaview Hotel, All Aboard, and The Stowaway, his latest opus doesn't disappoint. Mr Stevenson's playful and engaging story, told in a bold and busy comic-book format, is clever and entertaining, and kids will revel in the humorous, action-packed scenes, eye-catching details, and surprise ending. Perfect for youngsters 5-9, The Castaway is a manic, fun-filled romp that shouldn't be missed.

Stevenson does it again!
As usual James Stevenson comes out with another great book. Hubie is back! I am a big fan of James Stevenson. Everything he writes always takes me back to my childhood. I highly reccommend this book. Your children or students will enjoy!

Cully Cully and the Bear

Authors: Wilson Gage and James Stevenson

Average review score:

My sons favorite and he is now 16 and still talks of Cully.
Five star rating. Great pictures, humerous story for young and old alike. We checked it out of library weekly, and had each chase memorized after reading the story several times each day when he was 5 yrs old. My son is now 16 and we bring up Cully every so often and get a good laugh.

extremely easy to read, over & over, should be re-published
This book for 3-4 year olds (and any adult) I could read over and over again, the pictures complement the text and the quiet humor of both is worth any money. A great pity that this book is out of print.
Cully-cully wakes and decides to go hunting for a bear skin. He and the bear end up chasing round a large tree, overtaking each other.
As the bear staggers of into the distance cully-cully counts yet another bear as he continues to run around the tree. The book ends with cully-cully exhaustedly asleep but without the bear skin

A Vital asset to any F-14 or USN Aircraft Buff
As the previous reviewer noted, the book was published in 1975 and the F-14 was still in infancy. The information presented is pretty sensitivity as it is very hard to find the actual performance data on this aircraft even though the F-14 is 30 years old! Lots of money were spent on that swing wing design.

The book continues on about the inner workings of the F-14A and a little about the F-14B with the proposed engines. Excellent reference book.

A trip back to 1975!
This book was published in 1975. At the time, the F-14 is brand new, just reaching the fleet and it is without a doubt the most advanced fighter ever created. All of the Tomcat's advantages over its predecessor (the F-4J) and its Soviet adversaries (MiG-23, -21, -19, at the time) are explained in detail including the bubble canopy, weapons system, and untouched maneuverability. All of the aircraft systems are explained in detail with extra emphasis placed on the functioning of the AWG-9 radar. Though the book is very old, it contains information not found in other books. It's a great old book if you can find it!

And You Thought She was a Normal Girl
I loved Happily Ever After. I think that Kate spoke very differently from the people in the story and she taught them a lot.

A Great Fairy Tale for Girls
I love this book and have read it more than 10 times. One reason I like this book is because the main character, Kate, has mixed interests. She's a good athlete, and a tomboy, but also likes fairy tales. She's a real girl and not a goody two-shoes. The plot has lots of twists but is fun to follow. Kate is funny and shows the medieval court subjects that girls can be more than princesses. Every time I read this book, I feel like I am in the story, watching Kate. This book is like eating my favorite dessert and I love it!

great for kids of all ages
I ADORE this book. I've been reading and re-reading it since I was in middle school and still get a kick out of the bizarre, witty and hilarious poems and the great variety in the vocabulary. It's one of my "happy books" I read when I'm depressed. Prelutsky is a genius when it comes to poetry for kids (and the young-at-heart!). Get this book, if you have any sense of humor or the absurd you'll love it.

A book we both enjoy!
My eight yr. old loves Jack Prelutsky's poems (she has three of his books) but it is also a book that both of us enjoy reading. The poems are very funny and the words he uses are wonderfully descriptive and have expanded her vocabulary. We both highly recommend this book and others by Jack Prelutsky.

POet of the Century
Jack Prelutsky is far and away the best poet for kids. Hisverse is full of the joy of life and a chuckle or two, as well as hissignature multisyllabic vocabulary, and it's all wonderful to read aloud. Keep a copy in the car for the kids to read while you drive.
