This collection of writings by some renowned psychotherapists, including Jean Houston and James Hillman, integrates the spiritual, creative, and psychological aspects of psychotherapy in the tradition of C.G. Jung. The authors skillfully draw upon the perennial spiritual traditions, as well as creative arts, mythology, and mysticism and integrate them with intelligence and grace into a psychology of the soul.

The nice thing about the Pantheon edition is that the translation tends to be quite literal, so it's a very good one for someone learning German to use side-by-side with the original. (Plus the stories are great!)

Oh, and by the way: The Brothers Grimm were not folklorists, but linguists (besides making a huuuge German dictionary, they were the ones showed that German, English, Dutch, etc. are related to Greek and Latin). The reason they collected folktales is because they were looking for dialect-specimens and this is an old linguists' trick--you get a much purer version of speech in the (linguistically) relaxed folktales than you do in interviews.

Much has been written about the content of the stories and comments regarding violence and harshness have been discussed. Today's "wordly-wise" young people see this sort of thing on television and in the movies. Reading classics written years ago, as fairy tales is both educational and enlightening. Not for the very young, but certainly stories pre-teens and young teens can find interesting. I read them as a pre-teen and they still linger on today. Don't be afraid of Grimm's Fairy Tales. They are enduring classics through the ages!

Standing in a children's book store, I read my first Grimm's fairy tale and I was hooked. I was attracted by how odd the stories were to my modern eyes - I never knew that the wicked sisters' feet were cut up, and their eyes pecked out in the real Cinderella! Obviously the tales can be violent and gory, some of them have also been marked anti-semetic. This may not be a book for small children, but it is over 800 pages of wonderful storytelling. These are fairy tales that will live on forever in your heart.

Most Jung biographers rightfully extol the man's creative genius while paying scant attention to his moral deficiencies. Stern's portrait is more balanced, also chronicling events such as Jung's decision to accept the position as head of the German Psychoanalytic Society under the Hitler regime, after the prior Jewish head had been removed. Not the only Jung bio one should read, but an important complement to others.

This is a great collection of short articles from one of the most influential business consulting companies of all times.

So, if you can put up with or filter out some of the bizarre and apparently politically motivated comments then what you get is a fascinating history of the development of strategic thought in quite a number of key business areas.

Naturally, this is not a "how to" or a "biz strategy for dummies" book, but it does well in explaining some key concepts and of generating a desire to know more, that is, if you don't already know it all.

If you want to know where a lot of the actual strategy jargon came from, this is the place. You will learn the origin and the original meaning of "cash cow", "segment of one", "growth matrix" and many others. It is a collection of articles written by Bruce Henderson and other members of the BCG through the years so it is not really articulated and linked as a normal book but somehow, maybe through professional experience you can establish the link between the different subjects it covers. This book would certainly be the foundation for the reading of many actual business books. I enjoyed it and certainly recomend it.

I have found this book a great addition to my business library. One can pick it up and read brief essays on a wide variety of strategy topics. The intellectual history of strategy consulting resides here!
