Laughed and Learned
I always wondered how to interpret economic data but thought it was either boring or to complicated. This book "Inside Greenspan's Briefcase" makes it easy to understand and enjoyable to read. The author entertains and informs with some wonderful and funny stories. The book has the same great tone as the authors articles which I have been reading for years ....... I am even considering opening an account with his money management firm.

Great book, great foreword!
Rob Stein's book is a work of genius. He gives brilliant strategies in an easy-to-understand way. The foreword, written by Laura Cohn is simply the best foreword I have ever read. I follow her work in Businessweek magazine and am a huge fan of hers. I'm just waiting for her book...

Must read for anyone with money in the market
Rob Stein's Inside Greenspan's Briefcase is a real treasure. Rarely can you find an investment/ecomonics book that is able to bridge the gap between complex economic analysis and real life practical experience. Mr. Stien's logical enconomic approach is not only educational but necessary in assisting you to negiotate your every day investment management obstacle.

The Fishes of the Galapagos Islands
Published in Hardcover by Stanford Univ Pr (1997)
Authors: Robert J. Lavenberg, Jack Stein Grove, and Jean-Michel Cousteau
Amazon base price: $130.00
Average review score:

Most comprehensive catalog of galapagos fish
Drawing on more than 20 years of first hand research and collecting, as well as historical and contemporary data, this is a most comprehensive catalog of the fishes found in the waters surrounding the Galapagos Islands. Filling a void in the study of the Galapagos, this volume demonstrates that the marine life is as varied, unusual, & unique as the land animals which have been so well documented. 437 fish are included with 41 being unique to the region. For each species there is a general description, natural history, habitat, range and size. There is a b/w drawing or photo of most species plus 150 excellent color photos, most showing a live fish in its habitat. To assist future visitors in using the book as an identification guide, a description of prime diving sites is included. This book will prove to be invaluable to the student of the Galapagos environment or of fishes in general.

The only comprehensive review of Galapagos fishes.
This book is the result of over 20 years of research by the authors in the Galapagos Islands, including ten by Dr. Grove while he worked in the marine reserve as a naturalist and researcher. Over 400 species are reviewed which include the vast majority of those known to be found at the time of the manuscript's going to press. Unlike simple field guides, this volume provides interesting aspects of the natural history of most species in addition to accurate illustrations. Not only is this book an absolute must for anyone interested in the marine life of the Galapagos, but also an invaluable reference tool for those interested in the fish life of the tropical east Pacific.

American Journey: The Times of Robert Kennedy.

"the ride of the century"
Since I'm of the age group that actually remembers Mr Kennedy's campaign and assasination by seeing it on television, this was a strange book to read.

I remember all too well learning of his assasination - I had been assigned as part of homework to report on his campaign. I woke up to be sure I caught the news before I went to school - and there, another horrible scene was being played out. It seems unreal to me even now, after all these years.

This book is basically an oral history that tells two stories - the one is the thoughts and feelings of the folks on the train and gathered to see it, the other story is of Mr Kennedy's life and the impact his life had on the world.

It's broken down into various sections - his career as attorney general, working with Senator McCarthy, friends and family memories, the Cuban missile crisis - so you get a fuller picture of what Robert Kennedy was like in real life. It makes the tragedy of his death all the more poignant to learn about these things.

If you want to learn more about Robert Kennedy and how he was viewed in the time period he lived and dies in, this book is a very good place to start and I recommend it highly.

Reader from NYC
this is a very pragmatic and readable book that guides the reader through the issues s/he will encounter throughout the process of divorce, from seeking out a suitable attorney, to how to get through the damn thing in a way that is fair to you but not vindictive. It shows how to protect yourself with out baracuda teeth and how in fact swimming with the sharks might do more harm that good to financially, emotionally, to your kids, and may just protract the process. I highly reccomend this if you want to know what will happen, what you need to do, while avioding the self-detonating swirl of vengance.

It's everything a kid could want besides a pet!
This is a wonderful book for younger children!(Older people can read it as well, but is geared toward young readers.)She presents each pocket pet well,by saying pluses and dowsides of having each.I know each pet well and obviously she does too!(I did find one slight problem in the gerbil section:this book was written a while back when gerbils only came in 1 color, brown,so of course she says they come in just that color. But gerbils these days gerbils come in tons of colors!)It includes cute pictures too!I would recommend it to anyone who has or is a small child:)

A great overview of the Life of Christ
I teach a college-level "Life of Christ" survey class and use this book as my text. It is clear, orderly, evangelical, and well documented, perfect for a learning environment such as a college classroom. The issues dealt with by Stein involve more than just his personal opinion (although he will tell you what he feels is the most likely interpretation). He does make a big point to explain different interpretations of various points of disagreement (such as the ethical teachings of Jesus). I find this to be much more honest and refreshing than merely ignoring opposing points of view. Stein supports everything with references from the Bible as well as numerous other books on the subject, many of which are unfortunately out of print. If you want a nondevotional survey on the Life of Christ, I know of no better book.

An eye-opener
Although a work of anthropology, it helps if you have a background in philosophy, as Pierre Clastres clearly does. Using the "primitive" tribes of South America, Clastres raises fascinating questions about the nature of society. According to him, not all societies are constructed on a foundation of power-play. A sensitive reading of this book will force you to re-evaluate the society you're sitting in (and if you're reading this, it doesn't matter who you are: Clastres' has us pinned.)

Black Samaritan
Great read! Didn't want to put it down once I started reading.

The Black Samaritan
"This book is one of the finest medical-legal thrillers I have read! The story is taunt, well-paced, as cunningly woven as a spider's web. It got me on page one, like a Robert Ludlum opening, then held my interest throughout. Stein's storytelling forte is passion, emotion, and there is plenty of that here..."

This grabbed my attention!
Although I haven't read a novel for many years, this one was worth the effort. My usual reading material consists of the Wall Street Journal, business articles, the sports page, and last but not least, the Bible. The Black Samaritan kept my interest like no other story and I read it from cover to cover. I finished this very interesting story within one week, which is a personal record for me. Also I read Robert Stein's most recent book, The Vengeance Equation, with the same spell-binding interest. Robert Stein has captured my imagination!
