The book's emphasis is in the human dimension in education - how to structure interactions. It provides a theoretical basis of why a humane classroom is important, but at the same time it gives practical exercises and guidance on to how to foster that type of interaction. One exercise I found particulary good was the squares exercise, in which particpants are given parts of squares in which they can only form by sharing. Furthermore, none of them can take pieces, only give. It teaches a lot of stuff htat is 'beyond textbooks.' The other thing that is useful is the theory, which gives a clear basis of why (and how) we should care about and direct the social interactions in the classrooms. It gives many perspectives and sources as to ways in which we can measure this... all this is useful for teachers, and teachers of teachers.
