A Rare Treasure
This book was my favorite as a pre-teen. I have extremely fond memories of reading it. I began a search for it on my local library website and really was having trouble remembering what the name of the book was, (it has probably been 20 or so years since I read it). But low and behold, I accessed Amazon and did a search and I really had remembered the title of the book, it just isn't carried at the library any longer. I am so glad to have found it. I just ordered a used copy so I can read it again. Maybe I can even get my son to read it. But then again, maybe not.

Return to publication
I read this book over and over again as a child, and because of the way this story captured my imagination I do credit it with my becoming an avid reader. I now have a 9 year old niece that I would love to share this wonderful story with; and maybe, just maybe, she might understand the joy of reading. I still have my copy, some 20 years later, and because I have been unable to locate another copy of it I plan on giving my copy to my niece as a Christmas gift. Although, I would love to keep it for myself and find her her own copy. I truly wish a publishing house would reprint this magical story.

I never forgot this book either!!
My friend Ella and I used to act out this book on the playground in third grade! Our teacher read us one chapter every day before recess and we were always so upset when she stopped! I'm so sad it is out of print! If any publisher is reading this- The Ghost Next Door is an overlooked children's classic! Print it again! I purchased it used, online, to read to my family. I can't wait to get it!!

Interesting but a bit dated
I found this book at a garage sale and thought the title seemed interesting. The storyline is surprisingly good and the novel deals with modern day problems such as wife beating, preoccupied parents and handicapped children (one of the main characters wears leg braces and suffered through polio). The book makes many interesting references to Atlanta and even discusses April 26th which is the Confederate Memorial Day. One note of caution is that some of the minor African-American characters are depicted speaking in the stereotypical Black dialect and are shown to be believers in voodoo or maids. However, since this book was written in 1969, the reader should expect some dated ideas and caricatures.

Very well written-intruiging from the very first page
The author of this book portrays Shelley as a very real, very normal teenager. Her relationships with her brothers and relatives indicate that they were very close. It is a well written mystery and should be read by any mystery lover.

mystery book mystery
this book was pretty good but the first time i read it i was confused but overall its great.

Very Well Done
Unlike many of Wylly St. John's other books, this book is not written for children. It's target audience seems to be teenagers and young adults. This book deals with a writing conference being held at a college somewhere (the name or location is never given) and centers around a young overachiever called Libby Clark who takes one of the seminars on Mystery Writing. The first night out someone dies and our main character, along with her mentor who she suspects of being the murderer, use the techniques for writing mysteries as a way of determining the murderer. Murder She Wrote almost a decade before it's time. I think that this is easily the author's best work, because it is well structured and written, which she had a problem with in her other books, and extremely imaginative and atmospheric, which she did not have a problem with in her other books.
