Outstanding guide for NCOs. I bought this book when I was assigned to USAREC and have used it ever since.

I found the Three Meter-Zone to be simply one of the best books on leadership that I have ever read. And there have been many such books that I have read. This book clearly rates as one of the top two or three books that I could recommend on this topic.

Although I have a military background (USMC, late 60s - early 70s), I spent my career in law enforcement. I retired a couple of years ago after almost 29 years, to include time as a "first line supervisor and commander in Patrol Operations and police tactical operations (SWAT).

I found it to be very refreshing that this book was oriented "primarily" towards the first-line supervisor level. Although the principles and concepts outlined in the book were clearly applicable toward supervisory and management positions above that first line level, the thrust of its direction was somewhat unique in the direct approach towards first line supervision.

Additionally, the use of "war stories" to demonstrate specific examples of conceptual thoughts of principle allowed the reader a glimpse of practical applications of the various principles.

It was quite strange that while this book was an easy read - easy to follow, well written, and by no means conceptually "hazy" - I found it hard to finish! And that was only because I found myself reading a section, putting the book down and mulling over what I just read (and sometimes mulling it over off-and-on for hours), going back and re-reading it, etc. before going on to the next section. As a result, it took me quite a bit longer to finish the book that I had first imagined!

This book rates an "A+" for no other reason that the author's identification of one of the key problems facing supervision AND management today: "The Three Ps" (I won't ruin the surprise for future readers by identifying them).

In fact, in my opinion, in today's area of supervision and management - as I know from first hand observation in the law enforcement field and otherwise see both in the corporate world and in the military - the "Three Ps" are THE biggest problems of leadership today. Until the cultural climate adjustments occur that effect the necessary changes in this area, I see no hope for true positive outcomes within those troubled organizations.

This is an outstanding book that tells an uninformed reader exactly how NCO's should motivate, direct, and give purpose for a Three Meter Experience ! FM 22-100 guides soldiers in the Army leadership process through the eyes of Senior Officer Leadership. The Three Meter Zone gives it to you by a Noncommissioned Officer, for Noncommissioned Officers who like to get close and personal. We are in an Army that has sold its soul to corporate America and are being taught to "manage" soldiers instead of leading them. Its good to see a book supporting direct, in your face leadership !! I've conducted a Bold site adjustment on my leadership style and am confident that my shot group is now in the Three Meter Zone!

This book is absolutely fantastic. After reading numerous other training books and still having difficulty with my young dog I stumbled onto this book by accident. Spencer covers every aspect of training the puppy right through to advanced blinds and marks. His style of writing is very clear and his use of anecdotes helps to illustrate the real life ramifications of various techniques. Until I read this book I had great difficulty training consistent blind retrieves. Spencer's explanation of the correct use of conditioning flags has made it so much easier. I have read this book at least ten times and learn something new every time. I can't recommend it enough.

James B. Spencer's Training Retrievers For Marshes And Meadows will hold a specific appeal for hunters who use retriever dogs in their work. Beginners are taught how to gain rapport and train dogs, from basic obedience to training for the hunt - and receive instructions particular not only to retrieving in general, but to the breed.

Before, during and continuing with the training of my current yellow Lab, I have read quite a few books on the subject. I wish I would have had this one sooner! Easy to read and great instruction all in one book.

Excellent book to begin examining the financial elements of divorce. A good resource to start with before seeing a financial advisor or lawyer.

This book will at minimum prepare you for the difficulties ahead, at best, save you substantial financial expenditures.

Even though I have been separated a long while, I purchased my own copy of this book after browsing through a friends copy. It is truly a work of art. To me, it covers more than just money topics, but how to live through a very difficult time. It touches on so many areas, while always returning to the main topic of money. I really feel like the authors are talking to me, and not lecturing about facts and figures. A real user-friendly book! Forget emotions and get this book, even if you have to borrow the money!! You will get it back tenfold...

Divorce is about money, right? And this book will help you with all your financial questions regarding your budget, future planning, etc. And where has your spouse been hiding the money?? Find out! This book gives more tips on doing discovery than any other I've read. If you want a simpler book and want to let your attorney do everything (not recommended) try the Dollars and Sense of Divorce. But if you want the best reference there is, get Woodhouse's. I almost didn't get this one because of the price, but it's worth more than having 10 other books!

Mokole is a book for an addition to werewolf the apocalypse. You must have the "werewolf: the apocalypse" book in order to use this one to it's fullest ability. Mokole is a book about and how to play a were-alligator, were-crocodile, were-moniter lizards, were-gila monsters, were-caiman, and most importantly... they are all were-dragons! The mokole gives you mnesis, an ability to remember back to the time of the dinosaur kings. If you want to look like a big lizard, godzilla, dinosaur, sea serpent, fire breathing dragon, or oriental dragon.. then this is a book for you. The werewolves are the warriors of gaia, the mokole are her memory.

Out of all the kin books for the Wherewolf The Apocalypse game i like this one the most. It gave the much needed variety in the game and allowed for a great game. Allowing characters with these new and interesting powers is great fun, and by adding new sources and titles to your WW library you can laugh and have more fun with your friends that you play with.
I suggest this book to everyone and hope you take my word on it.

This is a great book. It helps to portray the true peril that the changing breeds are in and it also shows what those who truly desire to restore the balance, not just destroy the wyrm (dissolver) are capable of. This book has enthralled me since I bought it and now I really want to get an all Mokole game off the ground (too bad that my compadres insist on involving Bastet, Changeling, and Vamps :P). If you're considering buying it to this point, DO!

This book is the best of the bunch so far. I have read several training books to work with my GSP, and this one has been the most enjoyable and most accurate. The purpose and methods are clear, and the results one should expect are also laid out nicely.

One of the really great things about this book is the unassuming tone of the book. The author is clearly a working man who has responsibilities that include things other than dog training. After reading most other books, I come away feeling guility, as though I am torturing my dog by not giving her enough of my time. This author clearly understands that not every man has several hours per day to dedicate to training. I also like the way the author spells out so many things, but is noticably short-winded on one area: discipline. Too many books I read lean to far to one extreme or the other. Wolters says beat your dog into submission. Tarrant says don't touch your dog, but feel free to hand out emotional abuse as needed. I think effective training lies somewhere in between, and this book lets the reader judge the dog and doesn't spend a lot of time with high handed preaching(personally, I find that grabbing my pup's scruff and giving her a deep-throated growl usually conveys my displeasure more than adequately without needing to hit her as Wolter suggests, or punish her by withholding her food as Tarrant suggests).

Anyway, the techniques are sound, I get the results I desire, and my dog and I have a lot of fun together in the process, so this book gets my vote for the best training manual I've read so far.

This is the first bird dog I own and every single item from the book which I have used in training has been on the button. The pleasure of seeing my dog behave as predicted in the field cannot be described, and would only be understood by other bird dog owners .
The success of this book is that it's easy to read, insightful and accurate in the advice it dispenses.
It makes it easy for the dog owner to move through that confusing and daunting task of training his dog from puppy to successful bird-dog without making a mistake.

I've read every birddog book I could find since getting my Brittany last year. This book is the best. Authors vary widely in their opinions on proper dog training and a lot of the advice out there is plain wrong. Based upon my experience, Spencer's advice is right on target. What's even better, the clear and concise writing in this book makes it a very easy to follow guide. The first 98 pages provide an overview of birddog hunting in the U.S., and descriptions of 10 birddog breeds. For the next 146 pages, every sentence explicitly helps you understand the how and why of each aspect of training from puppyhood to the dog's first season afield.

I began training English Cocker Spaniels in the field some 14 yrs ago. A friend turned me onto this book and it has become my bible for training flushing spaniels. It is very common sense an even if you have never trained a spaniel before it is easy to follow. It also has a wonderful section on each breed which is of great help to those wanting to choose a spaniel hunting companion. Jim Spencer has made it easy for anyone to train a hunting companion in the field. Thanks Jim.

Jim Spencer covers all areas of spaniel training in a logical and understandable way. His methods and techniques make sense and can be accomplished by novice and experienced trainers. Whether one looks for a good hunting companion spaniel or a potential field trial champion, this book presents all aspects of training a spaniel to become an excellent gun dog. In addition to specific spaniel training methods, Jim covers general retrieving and spaniel breed history which make the book a must for any spaniel fancier's collection.

This book helped me tremendously to understand the basics and understand the entire process of training a flushing spaniel. The author speaks clearly and explains all steps extremely well and his instructions are so very "understandable". The author also writes with a genuine love of the dogs that comes through in all his chapters, and there's a great beginning where he goes over each spaniel breed and talks to real breeders about the attributes of each breed with regard to working ability, temperament etc. I highly recommend this wonderful book to anyone who loves working with their spaniel and will be training them to do field trials, or hunt test, or working dog certificates (as I am).

This is an excellent college level text.I particularly like the detailed "real world" drafting problems for the students. Also it has a very good apppendix. It is comprehensive enough that we use it in three different courses here at Vincennes University.

I have had this book in my drafting library for some time now. I am always using it and recommending it. The book is laid out so that you can go from beginning drafting up through advanced. It not only says what the standards are, but walks you through drafting technology so that you understand why they are like they are. I believe that anyone that is going to be doing drafting should have this in their library.

Anyone wanting to learn the fine details of training their dog for hunt tests or field trials could learn a great deal fromn this book. Mr. Spencer breaks down the various factors which play in setting up training sessions or tests into component pieces. I have found many people do not understand why their dogs do what they do faced with various factors of wind, terrain and mark placement. This book will help the novice and experienced trainer begin to analyze these factors. One result is a better sense of what your dog dog nees to learn to be successful in field competitions. It's a great book for someone aspiring to become a judge.

James Spencer shows different scenarios to set up for training your retriever. These tests can help all hunting retrievers: from your companion in the blind to your field trial champion. Note this book does not go into teaching commands. It focuses on marking and blind setups. He also goes on to discuss different types of competition. This book is filled with ideas and concepts you can put to use next time you are in the field.

It not only gives you the basic information you'd want to see, but it also gives a concise summary of the content of the video itself. The layout of the guide is great, since it is segmented into hundreds of special interest areas that the reader will enjoy browsing through. It has concise summaries of each video's content, great graphics, and the rating system helps the video viewer choose a video. It seems like every possible subject area or interest area is covered by the guide. I don't think there is a more helpful and interesting video guide on the market!
