Get and keep your ssdi
Bought this book as part of prep for application for ssdi. (also bought how to get ssi and ssdi by mike davis and dis workbook for ss applicants by doug. smith). Each book explained a diff part of the ssdi process. This book told what each med diagnosis needed to establish to qualify for perm. disability. And it goes on to explain how to keep your ssdi once you get your award. I did win my case the first try using the info in the 3 books. Having them made all the diff in the world in understanding the ssdi process. Best $[money]. (all 3 books) I ever spent...

One of three best Social Security disability books
As a lawyer I recommend three books to individuals who ask for help in getting their Social Security disability benefits. First is our Disability Workbook for Social Security Applicants. Everyone tells me that this book greatly simplifies getting disability benefits. I can testify that interviewing a client is much easier when he or she has used the Disability Workbook. Second, the book How to Get SSI and Social Security Disability, by Mike Davis, is insightful and easy to read. Mr. Davis is a former disability examiner. His clear explanations of common bureaucratic problems make his book one of my favorites. Finally, I use Dr. David Morton's Nolo's Guide to Social Security Disability. Dr. Morton is a former disability determination services staff physician who describes Social Security medical decision making better than anyone else I know. Every doctor who communicates with Social Security about patients should have Dr, Morton's book on the shelf - and every disability lawyer. I give all three books the highest rating.

Essentials for Obtaining/Keeping SSI/SSDI Benefits
This book contains valuable information for the professional and layman seeking to obtain and keep SSI/SSDI benefits. It is an easily read road map, taking the reader through a maze of bureaucratic terminology and procedures. Glossaries explaining terms and "government speak" are strategically placed throughout. Samples of all major forms used by the system are presented with guidance on how to complete them. Most importantly, Dr. Morton cautions the reader about impending laws being contemplated by SSA which would severely complicate matters, and possibly invite fraud, by having non-medical personnel review claims for benefits--which by definition, are medical/psychological documents. This warning and the data presented make for a valuable reading event.

Soulsearching Perfection
How I Became A Fisherman Named Pete tells the tale of one young man's path in life and how he moulded it himself with the help of the various colorful characters he encounters on his journey. From tragedy and confusion to contentment and inner peace, Tom, the book's main character, almost leaves an imprint on your conscience as to how anybody in this life can overcome adversity and still find true happiness. Spencer has succeeded in weaving a beautiful piece of fiction that is intelligent, rich in narrative, grammatically flawless and most importantly, engrossing. As debut novels go, it is incredibly impressive and reads like a novel written from a seasoned professional. Through his skilful observations and painstakingly careful research, he has managed to create a clear and vivid story that successfully portrays each town, city and character in superb detail. Being from the UK and unaccustomed to this part of America, this was a great help to me. I want from my books passion and detail, heart and emotion and this qualifies on each level. Well done David, I hope that you go from strength to strength and reap the rewards and accolades that any book of this quality deserves. I anticipate your next novel with hunger and impatience. Highly recommended.

A Gentle Story of a Lost Soul
Being a big fan of the wandering spirits of Richard Russo's stories, I had high hopes for this story of Tom, a detached loser trying to find his way. I'm glad to say my expectations were met and in some cases surpassed by this briskly paced first novel by Mr. Spencer.

The storytelling is vivid and efficient. The characters are almost painfully real and engaging. Most importantly, the plot is inventive and surprising.

This is the best first novel I've read since Michael Chabon's Mysteries of Pittsburg and I wouldn't be surprised to see the same great things, including a Pulitzer, in the future for this new author.

Best New Author
How I Became a Fisherman Named Pete, a powerful first novel by David Spencer, is a must read. Spencer's fresh voice weaves the story of Tom's journey toward self-knowledge as flawlessly as the fresh water of the setting's Chesapeake Bay mixes with the salt water of the Atlantic Ocean. Those native to Maryland will feel the Chesapeake coursing through their veins as they become intertwined with the story's characters, and those outside of Maryland will be introduced to this unique culture nested on the eastern shores of the United States that survives on the sustenance of the Bay. Spencer's words beautifully explore not the perfection of fiction, but the imperfection of the human spirit and the passage towards adulthood.

Chanting Down Babylon: The Rastafari Reader
Published in Hardcover by Temple Univ Press (1998)
Authors: Nathaniel Samuel Murrell, William David Spencer, Adrian Anthony McFarlane, and N. Samuel Murell
Amazon base price: $69.95

Best complete writing on Rastafari
This is the best book I've read on the subject. It is complete and gives the views of various scholars both Rasta and non-Rasta. I keep it as a resource and have read it 3 times.

An excellent overview of Rastafari theology and ideology.
Chanting Down Babylon is a welcomed addition to the growing literature on Rastafari. This reader sucessfully brings together most of the scholars studying Rastafari, as well as Rastafarians themselves, providing an important insight into Rastafari. The inclusion of articles addressing biblical hermeneutics as well as Rastafari theology begins to fill an important gap in Rastafari scholarship. A real treasure for those interested in learning about Rastafari for the first time, and for those who wish to expand their knowledge of this important religious movement.

textbook of spinal surgery
This represents a substantial improvement from the first edition, which was a good text in it's own right. The subject matter is more complete, and virtually every topic has been updated. I recommend it highly.

David Bailey's Rock and Roll Heroes

Rock And Roll Classics
This is a great picture book of some of the greatest stars of rock. The cover of Mick Jagger with a sword in his teeth is worth the price alone. This book has more pictures of the Stones in the early years, even has pics of Brian Jones. There are also pictures of the Beatles, U2, Alice Cooper, The Who, Elton John, Queen, Dylan and many others. Still almost half the book seems to be pictures of the Stones. I highly recommend it to the true rock fan.

An excellent and insightful collection of essays.
An excellent collection of essays that examines the reasons for and dynamics of executive teams. Explores the organization, chemistry and purposes of the team. Some topics include: the jobs of the CEO and COO; governance, importance of trust, conflict resolution, feedback, developing strategy, and leading strategic change teams. The essays in this work make many important observations. Of added value are effective summary tables.

A highly useful guide for the casual entomologist
This title is actually one of the earliest in a very successful list of Golden Guides. It quickly brings the reader up to speed on the subject of insects in general and proceeds to lure him onward with fascinating information about each of the referenced insects in turn. When I arrived in New England, after an early childhood of city dwelling, my forays into woods and field, guidebook in hand, were some of the most educational times of my young life. I still have my original, ragged, copy of "American Insects" and treasure it.
